Blue Lagoon Cove, Maira-Ira Beach, Pagudpud

Infographic: Your Awesome Journey to Pagudpud

My ultimate motivation in going to Pagudpud was to see the once secret beach known as Blue Lagoon which is becoming popular lately. Saud beach is a nice place to stay but Blue Lagoon beach is the most beautiful beach in the North. The sand quality is not entirely white but it has an off white grainy quality that would be similar to the sand in Boat Station 3 in Boracay. The best thing about Blue Lagoon is that it is like one large blue swimming pool! The water is bluish, the entire sea is calm and the underwater floor is deep but purely sand. The cottages are exotic and you can rent a water cottage and have fun diving in the water. There are no resorts in the area which is good in the sense that you only go here to purely enjoy the beach. Downside is that you still have to drive an additional 20mins to and from the main Saud beach in Pagudpud. There is actually a resort near the place called Kapuluan Vista Resort and Constantine have some resort shots. Another thing, one of my criteria for a great beach is that the sun sets in the horizon, unfortunately, Blue Lagoon is situated where the sun sets behind its back covered by the mountains.

Overall, I love Blue Lagoon! We had a fun time having photo shoots and just enjoying the beach. Check out these photos…

  1. These are Fun photos! 😀
We were also just there to cover the place, but I think Blue Lagoon and Mair-ira beach are different. Our local guide drove us another 20 minutes from Blue Lagoon then after Patapat bridge to reach Maira-ira which is more a stream of water from the mountains headed towards the beach.

  2. Hehehe. Yeah I thought Maira-ira and Blue Lagoon were the same too before.
But the guy was born in Ilocos and grew up there and driving up people from the airport in different places.
I guess I have to do more research on this. 🙂
But the place he brought us which “He says” is Maira-ira is also picturesque.

  3. Hi Anton,
Managed to confirm some info from other Ilocanos I asked. You are right, The stretch of beach in Blue Lagoon is called Maira-ira.
The place we went to after the Patapat bridge is called Agua Grande.
Hope that clears things up 🙂

  11. I Love Blue Lagoon Beach resort.Try AGUA SEDA Beach House( Agua Seda Beach House’s contact no. 09202431832. The place is at the beachfront of Blue Lagoon. You can really enjoy the good scenery of Blue lagoon at this place!!!) AGUA SEDA BEACH House is a nice place to stay.
We stayed at this cozy little home-stay/resort called Agua Seda owned by a local retired teacher. If I recall correctly, it was recently accredited by the DOT so you know it’s a good place to stay in.
It had three rooms available for renting, all of which had airconditioning units. Two of those rooms could hold 2 people comfortably (4 if you were on a budget and didn’t mind sleeping on the floor) and the bigger room, which was a separate unit inside the property, could hold 4-5 people comfortably (8 if you’re tight on the budget). The place had a rather large garden with huts you could hang out in while waiting for the high noon sun to go down and a spacious porch with tables on which to play cards, eat food or do whatever (even watch DVD’s if you had a portable DVD player with you).
The owner offered paluto services (they buy food for you and cook it – just tell them what you want to eat), which you have to pay for on top of the accommodations fee. We didn’t really mind paying the extra charge because the food was DELICIOUS. If you’re craving for some softdrinks and some beer, you can buy from them, too. There is a small sari-sari store right beside the property if you need to buy anything that the owner doesn’t stock.
There’s a bigger resort beside Agua Seda, but it had higher rates, and I’m guessing the view isn’t as spectacular as the one from AGUA SEDA BEACH HOUSE.
There were a lot of us in our party so we managed to save on food by bringing our own bread, snacks, water and canned goods to be cooked for breakfast. You can have the caretaker cook for you or you can do it yourself (you just pay for the gas). We just paid for our lunch and dinner.
If you’re wondering how we managed to get to the place, here it is: you have to make the arrangements even before leaving Manila. From Manila, we took the super deluxe Maria de Leon bus (the station is behind UST). Reservations are a must, by the way. It had three seats per row (as opposed to the five seats per row in a commuter bus) and a toilet. It cost P750 and took about 10 hours. We had arranged to have a van take us from Laoag to Pagudpud. Costs more than riding a bus and a tricycle to get to the beach, but it’s easier and more convenient (we didn’t get lost). For reservations to AGUA SEDA BEACH HOUSE ; contact & CP numbers; Leticia Garvida-09202431832 and Lalaine G. Galicinao-09218079703

  12. The newest and most high end beach resort in the Blue Lagoon area is Punta Azul located just a few steps from the beach . We offer complimentary breakfast and supply toiletries esp when all three buildings will be in full operation. The contact # 92848-22543.Rigght now the website is still on the process, so keep and eye. the rate is very affordable considering the amenities and the view from the balcony on the 2nd floor.

  13. Were going to this place this May.
To ‘Yousef’ or anyone who knows a rental van to take us to Pagudpud from Laoag airport, can you pls post their contact no. here? We’ll be arriving at Laoag at night and it seems that there are no PUV’s going there after 6 pm.

  14. Hi Guys! I was just checking out in the web this new place called Kapuluan Vista Resort in Brgy. Balaoi and I’d like to know if anyone of you guys have been there. Any feedback? 15. hannah’s place at the blue lagoon is an awesome place to go. you try it and you’ll enjoy the exciting amenities it offers. all units are airconditioned for everyones convenience, with satellite tv and dvd’s,the modern units will surely satisfy your comfort zones. its pavilion offers a wide variety of wines, brandy and diferent beverages, videoke for you to enjoy singing, videogames and its also a nice place for you to have different occasion. rates of all units justifies your stay . there is a free parking area, secured and modern shower rooms we can never find in any resort in the area. availability of restaurant answers your craving for native foods like vegetables freshly cooked, delicious menus on sumptous seafoods come along with the great tasting igado and pinakbet. the resto is also a delight to us because of the satellite tv is has.hannahs is where we find a convenient store never been found in any resort with its affordable items from personal necessities to accesories, and swimming gadgets.
Hannah’s Place Beach Resort contact number 09206057121-is actually the managers contact number.

  16. In Hannah’s you’ll experience no brownouts, visibility of goodlooking lifeguards in uniform keeps you safe while staying in the area… For the Marian devotees, there is the towering grotto of the the LADY MIRACULOUS medal fronting the newly constructed swimmingpool where you can stay if you prefer unsalted water.
Its breathtaking to stay to the only place that offers banana boats, kayaks, motorboat, speedboats and snorkling gadgets.
We enjoyed so much playing volleyball along the beach.
From Laoag. we were fetched by the resorts service vehicle that brought us to the fantastic first in asia… the… BANGUI WINDMILL, the rock formation, cape bojeador lighthouse, springs and falls.

  17. HANNAH’s in pagudpud, the BLUE LAGOON, virgin paradise of the north… I never knew theres is an existing place like this in the Philippines.
I love the white fine sand, crystal clear water, greenhills and trees… and the Hannah’s place management and staffs.I just found out the place with their newly, still in progress website..www.hannahsbeachresort.com
Try the hannah’s place, where you can find the greatest and exciting experience of flaming hospitality of their staff.+639206057121- info contact number. I love the Blue Lagoon…
I’ll gona have another vacay next year with friends and families at Hannah’s.

  18. yeah guys, its really fantastic and worth the long travel we had. hannahs really offers the latest in beach amenities, we had so much fun with kayaks, banana boats, snorkling, and surfing. their resto offers delicious newly cooked foods . we truly enjoyed the beach volleyball too. my family also loved the newly built shrine of the miraculous medal.we,ve learned that the place is a partnersip of the town mayor, the manager and two others from manila respectfully Col Nolasco and Mr Peter Murphy.

  19. truly , pagudpud will bring the ilocos region into the limelight . its breathtaking ! . My only comment of the place is that ; my family went there with my fiancee a foreigner. we are so disapointed and ashamed becoz at the blulagoon entrace we’re obliged to pay for the entrance fee of twenty pesos each. since we’re initially booked at Villa Fernando in Bangui, and we only went there sightseeing and look for the nicest place to stay there, we felt so deceived of the barangay ordinance. May the local government abolished totally or amend of said ordinance since this hinders development and progress of the place. May the town and barangay officials come up with a better ordinance for their collection effort in bringing income for the loc government. the lawmakers specially the officials are known to be bright ones and we believe they will finally listen and open up their minds for this suggestion. the said ordinance is not being enforced in saud beach granting that it is in the same town. tourism will boost income for the town if handled properly. this will also provide income for the community and the families around the place.

  20. GUYS! i just went to pagudpud last week, i highly recommend AGUA SEDA BEACH HOUSE. I even created a friendster account for agua seda for people to see pics, i really treasure my trip there because of Mrs. Lety Garvida, the owner, she’s so nice. kasi we went to Saud beach first sa Polaris and it was horrible, i don’t recommend that place. go straight to Blue Lagoon, you won’t regret it. If you want to check out AGUA SEDA, add the friendster account i just made, add aguaseda@yahoo.com. you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to visit this place.

  23. oh sorry but i wasn’t satisfied with the services of aguaseda, its a nice place to stay in fairness but the services offered is my prio.

  24. I traveled north one year past and must say that aguaseda can not even comparable to polaris. Maybe rein should take a trip again just to enjoy this time.

  25. to ali j.
My family and i have visit pagudpud only 2 times therefor can not compare, but service at polaris is remarkable. no reason to go elsewhere.

  26. Saud Beach Cove is the best beach in the north. The beach and the sand can’t be compared to any in Pagudpud. So many nice resorts are located on the cove. Polaris, Saud Beach Resort, Arinaya, Villa del Mar, Apo Idon, Evangeline Resort, Terra Rika, Jun & Carol, North Ridge, Klasik and Romaville. Try any of these resorts and you’ll never regret your stay in PAGUDPUD. The resorts are located near the town proper, meaning visitors are secured since the police officers are always on patrol night and day.Fresh food is always available since the market is just less than a kilometer away.Saud Beach is still the Best. Contact numbers are available in their websites or you can obtain them through the search engines.

  27. Punta Azul Beach Resort at Blue Lagoon, Pagudpud is a family vacation house but visitors are more than welcome to visit. It is the newest at Blue Lagoon with American style facilities. The Bayview Building (name of one of the buildings) has a view of the ocean and the verdant hills while lying in bed, or dining on the table with family or friends. At night, you can sit by the patio on the second floor or where you can dance around lit by moonlight or twinkling stars on summer time. Do not forget to bring your own music since this is not provided yet. There are two other patios for the other 2 bedrooms overlooking the ocean where you can enjoy the morning sunrise. Downstairs is another spacious patio where you can sit and relax having a fresh sea breeze during summer whenever you get tired swimming on the pristine crystal clear water. Plans still in progress about shuttle from Laoag airport to the resort and roaming around other beauty spots like the cascading Kabigan falls where orchids are abundant around the place, the long and winding Patapat Viaduct along the seashore and the very steep side of a mountain, Agua Grande overlooking China Sea, Pasaleng Beach with very clean round shape stones along the shore. Of course you do not want to miss the famous White Beach (Saud Beach) near the town proper of Pagudpud and the Mountain Resort in Barrio Lanao overlooking China Sea from a distant. Other places you would not like to miss is Bangui Windmills which is much bigger than the windmills I have seen the hills of California, USA. The century old Light house of Burgos is not too far away either as well as the White Rocks Beach shaped like a bigh ship. This is worth of a family vacation trip who are fond of the God given beauty by nature which the good mayor of Pagudpud, Mayor Marlon Sales and other local government officials are trying to preserve for the sake of humanity and for other generations to enjoy.

  30. “WHY PAGUDPUD IS GOOD”
    Kapuluan Vista Resort in Pagudpud
    THE PHILIPPINE STAR LIFESTYLE
Experience a new discovery up north called Kapuluan Vista Resort. It is a surprising escape for those looking for adventure or those who simply want to enjoy reading a book on a white-sand beach. Quietly nestled amid three mountains and the sea, Kapuluan Vista Resort offers the perfect mix of natural surroundings making it an excellent place for snorkeling, swimming, diving, surfing, hiking, [biking] and enjoying nice long walks along endless, expansive beaches.
Style, distinction, warmth and intimacy are the key elements in the architecture and design of Kapuluan Vista, The owners wanted to create a very different property. Their vision became reality when architects Buji Libarnes and Kelvin de Chavez worked their magic. They united traditional architecture with the comfort and luxury of modernism WITHOUT LOSING THE PERSONALITY OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. The expression of theme is created with white walls, white linen and cultural and wooden accents giving the place a tranquil ambiance.
The food is a must-try. Whether you are craving Filipino cuisine or something with a western flair, their meals will tickle your palate. Fresh vegetables and herbs picked from their organic garden, high-quality ingredients and the ALL-NATURAL flavorings give their menu a healthy kick (vegetarian menu also available). This is an important factor in the WHOLESOME LIFESTYLE that Kapuluan Vista Resort promotes.
After pampering yourself with blissful sleep, delicious and healthy dining, good company and enough recreational activities to make up for days missed in the gym, you will see why KAPULUAN VISTA RESORT WAS AWARDED “THE MOST INNOVATIVE BEACH RESORT IN NORTHERN PHILIPPINES.”
In the short time sine opening the resort, its waves [directly in front of Kapuluan Vista Resort] and spectacular scenery have attracted the attention of several mainstream international surfing publications such as SURFER MAGAZINE (US), SURFER’S PATH (UK) and KIWI SURF (NEW ZEALAND). Recently [Mike and Alma Oida, Kapuluan Vista Resort owners/managers] played host to the SPORTS UNLIMITED crew and [they] even gave Mark Nelson and Dyan Castillejo private surf lessons in front of their resort.
You might have seen Kapuluan Vista Resort featured in: PREVIEW (about 4 times), COSMOPOLITAN, MABUHAY MAGAZINE (about 5 times), Marie Claire (TOP 10 PLACES TO VISIT IN THE PHILIPPINES), METRO, TOP GEAR, ABS-CBN SHOWS, EASY RIDER, etc.

  31. About the comment that Punta Azul has no staff and no maintenance is presumptous. Since we just had the soft opening last month(June ) we are still in the process of looking for potential staff and in the planning stage of landscaping and other amenities like a decent, affordable eatery etc.But as of now we do have staff who can attend to visitors and cook meals for them. I suggest next time you visit the area you can request a tour of the bldngs so you can have an objective opinion about the facility. For me like most people I rather enjoy the view in a decent terrace or balcony and clean bathrooms, fresh linens and comfortable bed rather than stressing my self about a place not having a swimming pool.In that rustic, awesomelly natural beauty to enjoy who needs a pool.

  32. If you guys really want to enjoy Pagudpud I, suggest go straight to Blue Lagoon where you can see the real blue waters and the pristine white sand beach. The water is shallow and clean and the locals are friendly. You can stay at the Punta Azul wgere rates is very affordable , the rooms have their own bathrooms w/showers and some w/ bath tubs w/ hot/cold water, also w/ individual a/c units. The bedrooms are spacious w/ hardwood (narra) beds w/ semi Firm mattress. The bathrooms are tiled w/granite from floor to ceiling and very clean. It has a second floor terrace overlooking the bay and the balcony is the perfect place to unwind an enjoy the view.contact in P.I. 905 266-2327

  33. We had our vacation in pagudpud in Punta Azul last Aug13. We had a wonderful & enjoyable stay in their resort! Kuya Harold & Ate Lanie Pedronan make sure that our stay in Blue Lagoon will be memorable & hassle-free. Not only are the Room rates cheap & affordable, but you will experience the warmth hospitality of those in-charge of the place. It’s like staying in your own vacation house! The rooms are perfectly situated a few steps from the beach itself. From our room, you can catch sight of the blue lagoon-it’s pristine waters & white sand. I remember awakening from my slumber past 2am, was awed by the sound of the splashing waves and the breeze of air, that i have to wake-up my boyfriend from his sleep! The sounds we missed from our everyday life in the city.
Our vacation is super stress free. Everything is provided by Punta Azul. From airport transfer, breakfast (dinner can also be provided, but you will have to inform them ahead) to touring pagudpud. Nothing to worry on touring pagudpud because Kuya Harold knows all the tourist’s spot and can take you there.
I highly recommend for those planning to stay in Pagudpud, to book now in Punta Azul. You will definitely enjoy your stay there. WE DID! =)
You can contact Mr. Harold Pedronan of Punta Azul at 0927-224 7825

  34. Hi! Here’s a tip for everyone who might be interested in going to Pagudpud. We just visited Pagudpud a few weeks back and what an awesome experience it was, we had such an amazing experience that I could not help myself but to share this. When we were planning to have our Pagudpud Trip we did not have any clue on where to go and what to do so I made a bit of research about the place and I stumbled into this site, explorenorth.multiply.com, it was like an answered prayer, we just contacted the site owner and all our concerns regarding our trip were addressed so much so that everything was taken cared of by the very friendly, courteous and professional Mr. Jem (our tour organizer and guide). Imagine for a very reasonable rate everything from transportation, accommodations, tour itinerary even suggestions on where or what to eat has been taken cared off. It truly is one hassle free Pagudpud experience, don’t believe me? Check out their site at http://www.explorenorth.multiply.com and experience for yourselves what I mean.

  35. Reading from all the comments above, Punta Azul has struck me the most. This 1st week of October, I will visit it with some relatives. Arya PUNTA AZUL. Umayminto padasen met ti kinatarnay – azul a paraisoyo nangnangruna no pagnaedennakaminto toy agdindinnamag a pagdagusanyo….

  36. Halluer!! hay naku…kaloka naman ang mga nakasabayan namin sa hannahs place last november, we were touring around the vicinity of hannahs by one of the staff when suddenly a guy came out from one of the villas introducing himself the “nephs-owner” and soon be ruling the the resort, anyways, i wasn’t impressed by his talkings-polluted air- that he came from vegas…noone asks his vitae, i doubt it…tssk tssk!!!he doesn’t look as one, he was so arrogant! As far as i am concerned…american friend was with me that moment. The staff had to excuse herself and left, so do we… we went back to the info area to settle our stay, i was asking again one of the staff to call the attention of ate Gina for us when a short, blondie, white lady called the staff i was talking to- to get her pony tail, while she can asks another for that, how arrogant are those two persons!!!!!!! who are they?…I see now…(shes on the posted photo in their website- the lady in green). So we asked again someone to call ate gina-knowing that shes hands on cooking great…tasty…yummy food…so finally, we were booked and stayed there. Hannahs staff was so kind, they are all a team player; i cannot question or comment on the staff, nor the treatment to their guest..they are really ILOCANOS- warm ang hosting nila sa amin, they are kinda mabait lalo na si ate Gina,di ko akalain na ang irita ko sa babaeng nag-uutos sa kausap ko ay kayang burahin ng talks ni ate gina, shes very considerate and she kept on wearing her pearl-white-close up smile, just like the lagoon…white and smiling ang sand.
But we had to leave earlier than our plan to stay in hannahs because i donot want to have an encounter again with that blonde lady…She got the looks but not the GUTS.Akalain mo yon?..kung makautos sa staff-(kasi he was in his uniform)parang PA nya.
I’d love to go to hannahs…i love the staff but i hate to encounter mapang-aping tao. Sana pagpunta ko ulet don…di ko na makikita or makakasabay pa mga yon. nasisira ang tract record ng hannahs especially mga bisitang dinadala ko don ay mga banyaga- hannahs could only be the place i can trust of their staff, treatment, safety and security of my guests.
Thanks to all the staff, ate gina, drivers and the lifeguards, we had a fantastic experience in your resort. More power and God Bless you..Hannahs!!!!!!!

  37. aww! thanks theres kelly who posted that comment to hannahs. Yeah you are CORRECT kelly!.. we’re in hannahs too last november. That “girlie” u are talking about used to command…whoooooooobooooooooo!!!!!!! while we’re having lunch nga sa resto ng hannahs, we noticed gusto nya siya unang sisilbihan, eiiii! hello…nauna kami pumasok sa resto noh.? right after they got seated, gusto na agad hainan sila.. nauna po kami!!!!! di na lang kami kumibo baka kako they are GUTOM na…jejejeje!

  38. I went to the Blue Lagoon last December. Due to the season, the sea was really wild and it was hard to swim on the beach due to the big waves. This would be the perfect venue for those who loves skimboarding, though. It was really really really windy that time but the beach was still spectacular!

  39. Visit http://www.punta-azul-pagudpud.com
Punta Azul Beach Resort is a home away from home. Originally built as a family retreat blending the natural beauty of this part of Pagudpud and Western lifestyle living, the owners decided to share it with visitors who yearn to escape the hectic and stressful life in the city.
The resort is nestled right at the Blue Lagoon in Baranggay Balaoi, Malingay, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. The first time you see Blue Lagoon, you will be captivated by the stunning crystal blue water, pristine white sands at the foot of verdant mountains; just like a hidden treasure; a paradise at the northern tip of the Philippines!

  40. hi markey!
Don’t go to hannahs place if you’re goin’ to the blue lagoon, my second stay in hannahs was a dismay, mabuti pa last year iisang tao lang ang nakikipagtransact, manager lang ang kausap noon, my 2009 vacation there ay sooooooobbbbbbrrrrrrraaaaang disgusting, ang naka-post sa website ay operational ang grillhouse nila second week ng april, hayun, drawing lang pala.Ang rates sa website nila sobrang taas, pag kausap ang manager iba sa pinopost nila. walang coordination at un-organized ang management don, you cannot identify who’s the real manager.
Wala akong ma-say sa service ng dating manager at mga staff nila, they are super NICE and ACCOMODATING, why kaya yong new faces acting managers and bosses parang walang knowledge sa mga inquiries re the resort.

  41. Heyheyhey! MABUHAY HANNAH’S BEACH RESORT, the manager Ms.Gina and Staff,Waiters, Shuttle drivers as well as the Tourist Guide! more power sa inyong lahat.
In fairness to the resort, inviting and tidy naman the facilities pero ang mga bagong nagmamanage when we’re there, they are a DISMAY>

  42. Went to Kapuluan with my friend last April 27-29. 2nd visit na namin sa place. The 1st time was great kaya umulet kami. The week before that we keep on asking the contact person named Benedict (ata yun, cant remember na) how’s the weather there. Kasi kita namin sa http://www.accuweather.com na rainy and windy dun sa pagudpud. That person assured us na ambon lang meron dun. On the way there, nasa ilocos na kami, the guy called us asking where we are… kasi siguro medyo late na kami for checkin. Again we asked musta dun, same answer, ambon lang. When we got there, sobrang inis na inis kami. Tama naman si benedict, inde malakas ang ulan pero he failed to mention na malakas ang hangin, sobra. Kung inde makapal ang balat mo, inde ka makakalabas ng kwarto. Tumaas pa gastos namin kasi we were originally booked sa standard room, nagpaupgrade kami to deluxe since we need the tv kasi nga inde ka makakaswim or gala, malamig:(. Well engot din naman kami, inde kami nakinig sa weather forecast.. but I hope the person in charge of their booking would be more honest to future guests… para maresched at di masayang malayong byahe… the locals told us na 2 weeks na raw na ganon ang weather dun… I also noticed na inde na sing sarap ng last year yung food sa kanila. Maybe nagpalit sila ng cook or something or nabwiset kami sa “ambon”:|. Parang naging scrambled yung egg sa carbonara namin. Tapos ang tigas ng pork sa sinigang. Inde na rin available yung tapsilog na gusto kong breakfast sa kanila. Sayang, ganda pa naman experience namin last year dun:(

  43. Hi.Been to Pagudpud this March 31-April 2. Your site was our guide, tnx =). We were supposed to stay at Fort Ilocandia to spend a day in Vigan but their shoreline is poor. The sand is almost black and the water is not at all clear. We wanted to enjoy the sea,not the city amenities the Fort is offering so we decided to go straight to Pagudpud. We were lucky to get the last vacant room at Agua Seda Beach House. The owner Manang Lety is so nice and accomodating. The airconditioned room has 1 queen size bed, own CR (at 3K pesos). They provided us with additional mattress. Agua Seda is a beach front beach house with very affordable rates. Contact no is 0920-2431832..no of Ms.LEticia Garvida, the owner. The water is much bluer and clearer as you walk farther away from the resorts..actually to where TAKEIJIRO’s lovely pose is..that log is still there =). Loved the Kapurpurawan Rock Formations, The Lighthouse,Bangui Windmills, Paoay Church, Vigan Heritage Village..Sand dunes had weeds didn’t appreciate it that much.. We headed backwards on the way to the falls because it seems no one was there and the road up the mountain is too narrow. We might not be able to find a wider road to go around if we decided to move farther..The rough road to the Kapurpurawan Rocks was quite scary because the road seems endless but you get to breath once you see some cars coming from there..and almost always they open their windows to say “malapit na lang” The 10-12hrs drive to Pagudpud and another 12hrs back home was well worth it!

  44. Mairaira Blue Lagoon is indeed Boracay of the North! Come stay with us at Pagtarusan Lodge, DOT Accredited Tourist Inn (RI-TI-005-2004), National Road, Bangui, Ilocos Norte; Email: pagtarusan_lodge@yahoo.com; Website: pagtarusan.multiply.com; Mobilephone: +639196954502. We are located at the center of tour destinations: 25 km from Cape Bojeador Lighthouse; 18 km from Kapurpurawan Rocks; 9 km from Bangui Windmills/Colorful Stones and Pebbles Beach; 7 km to Saud Public Beach, Pagudpud; 18 km to Kabigan Waterfalls; 25 km to Mairaira Blue Lagoon/ Patapat Viaduct/Agua Grande Rapids; 35 km 4 wheel drive to the coolest place nearby-Adams Summer Town and Cordilleras/Ricefields/Clear Rivers View along the road!

  45. Stayed at Agua Seda last summer and regretted it. The bathrooms are dirty, not suitable for families with small children. Although the owner was nice, she wasn’t there when we arrived and a group of young men were running the place, as in they did the cooking too. we intended to stay for 3 nights but decided to go back to Ilocandia for the rest of our trip. Blue lagoon is nice but the waves can get rough, too rough for small kids. Been there, no plans of going back. Boracay has ruined all other beaches for us 🙁

  46. two months ago, I read this entire thread before going to Blue Lagoon in Pagudpud. my family and I have just come back from the place, so here’s my two cents on several discussion points in the thread:
    BLUE LAGOON SHOULD STAY SECLUDED
    – WTF? why hide something so beautiful? sustainable tourism is possible, as long as it stays an objective of the Pagudpud LGU. in fact, the people of Brgy. Balaoi can and should act as collective guardians of their environs. I for one am sick and tired of all these beach freaks perpetually on the lookout for the most inaccessible, depopulated, insanely beautiful piece of coastline – and then proceed to post blogs that make us mere would-be-traveller lower-middle-class mortals feel guilty about even wanting to go there, because it’d be a shame if more people start to go these “unspoiled” havens. reality check: we are a nation of 100 million, all of whom have the right and should be made capable of travelling anywhere in our beautiful country. if you like to bitch about your isolated paradise attracting attention, you have nothing to blame but your own snobbery.
BIG-ASS RESORTS ARE STARTING TO DESTROY BLUE LAGOON
    – this is iffy. my family and I stayed in Hannah’s – yes, the big-ass resort that this blog and many other commentators have blamed for very slightly dimming Blue Lagoon’s allure. I tend to agree that developments like Hannah’s have too large a footprint to even be remotely sustainable. the piped water in that place was just a tad less salty than the sea down at the beach – I strongly suggest the management look into the possibility of Hannah’s actually depleting the groundwater in the area which can lead to saltwater incursion in the water supply. I also hated the tacky-ness of the cartoon statues dotting Hannah’s. the place doesn’t need that shit, why put it in? it may be entertaining to kids and people suffering from arrested development, but it certainly distracted me from the breathtaking scenery around the resort. resorts aren’t supposed to distract guests from the beautiful surroundings for which they came in the first place. the adventure and water sports amenities that the resort has are also questionable, since the noise they make and the visual space they take up, again, distracts from the natural beauty of Blue Lagoon. that said, Hannah’s offers decent rooms, with decent amenities, at (and I dare say) decent prices. room rates and meal prices are relatively the same from Panziann to Saud, so why pretend there’s any difference among Pagudpud’s resorts? and their staff are accessible – not too friendly, but also (thankfully) not intimidating.
    BLUE LAGOON’S SWELLS ARE CHILD-KILLERS
    – only if you’re the most inattentive parent in the world. the sea has cycles – learn to deal with them. the beachfront at Hannah’s has waves that maybe fun for many swimmers, but can easily sweep little children into the water. whenever a wave breaks, you should drag them to safety fast – it can easily turn into a sadistic kind of sport. but I digress. for families who want a stress-free dip, walk towards the eastern end of Blue Lagoon, where the beach curves and eventually meets rock formations and surf breaks (another clue: it’s the end of the beach closest to the high end of the zipline). from that curve until the point where rock and beach meet, it’s clear turquoise waters, gentle waves, and shallow water even up to 200 meters from the beach. plus, for kids, there tons more little fish here than at Hannah’s contemptible beachfront. WARNING: this spot is at least 300 meters away from any bathroom. be prepared to RUN an agonizing 5 minutes (through fine sand that will slow you down) to the nearest restroom, in the not-too-off chance that you feel nature making a direct call to you in paradise.

  47. OH, some full disclosure:
my little sister spotted a sea snake near the rock formations in the eastern end of Blue Lagoon. just be on the lookout for everything swimming/slithering/moving that has a high-contrast pattern. that’s nature’s dead-giveaway for “This animal is f—— poisonous, stay well away from it!”
