3/17/15 Update: KAINAN SA DALAMPASIGAN: A Must Stop Over Filipino Restaurant in Nasugbu! 

A Warm Welcome to Kainan sa Dalampasigan!

Doesn’t this remind you of a scene in The Lord of The Rings?… These hanging vines are enough to set the tone for a lunch/dinner in a middle of a rustic garden. The nearest beach places in Manila are the ones in Nasugbu or Calatagan Batangas. I like going to these parts of Batangas, because it passes by Tagaytay. So almost, always, Tagaytay is the setting for Breakfast on the way to Batangas and for Dinner on the way back home. I’ve always been on a look out for a good lunch place within the Nasugbu area. The ones that gives you a give provincial feel/ welcome, with a nice ambiance, good food with a good value for money. I’m glad we found Kainan sa Dalampasigan right in the heart of Nasugbu Town.

I would recommend this place as a good stop on your way to Punta Fuego or the Calatagan Beaches. The places serves home cooked food with Tangingue steak as the main attraction. The ambiance is quite nice and they took time to invest on the ambiance to compete with the beach resorts to attract the beach goers for a lunch or even merienda affair. I must admit this place has been in existence for a long time now, but they just renovated recently so during my first visit — I was happy to find this garden place. Of course, this wouldn’t compare with Sonja’s garden or Antonio’s but you can say that this is more of a provincial version of a garden leaning towards a rustic feel to its ambiance.

I was just excited to see the hanging vines and I took a picture above to remind me of the opening welcome scene when you arrive at this place.

Steaming Hot Dalampasigan Soup (P170).

The lady who took our order said it was a clear soup. Is this a clear soup to you? Oh well, it doesn’t matter because we immediately sip into the soup that made us want to have another serving. Filled with vegetables, 3-4 shrimps, squid and beaten egg.

Start it healthy with Sariwang Lumpia (P65).

Before hitting on the cholesterol!

One of their bestseller, Baked Tahong (P200).

Can’t stop popping one mussels to another! Melted cheese with cream then top it with the butter sauce, just no other way for me to eat this one!

Another bestseller of the house, Tangingue Steak (P240).

The seafood’s version of Pork Steak. Tangingue was not tender but the sauce compensated and made it special. Its tanginess and sweetness combined was too tempting for us. Not to mention that it was cooked with butter, another reason why it was deliciously tempting. Can you see the residue marked on the plate? Yikes!

To add some excitement to our entourage, we ordered Sizzling Squid (P220).

The last to be devoured and still with leftovers because we were busy finishing off the baked tahong. The rice was wrapped in leaves to give aroma and drama but neither was achieved. Rice was plenty per serving (P25).

Nothing beats this dessert, Leche Flan (P140).

One of the most favorable dessert of of all times. I like mine to be creamy melt-in-your-mouth leche flan…(What is it with those melt-in-your-mouth food?!). Even this was not my kind of M.I.Y.M leche flan, I still like it because of its richness. Anything too tempting is just not so good!

I ate there eons ago before we bought our lot for our weekend home in Nasugbu… more recently, it seems I sometimes hit the Nasugbu market as the restaurants buyers arrive and it is a mad dash to corner all the best seafood before it is packed off to the restaurant…nice choice in the midst of Nasugbu town proper…

  2. i was supposed to eat there when i went to punta fuego with my bf =) but it was dark na so we couldn’t. hehehe=) he said it’s yummy daw there.

  3. This post brings a lot of memories when I used to visit Nasugbu a lot back in the 90’s before I moved out of the country. A very good friend of mine in Nasugbu (Esther of Esther’s Beach Resort) used to take me to Dalampasigan everytime I visit her and they have real good fresh seafoods all the time. They had a very nice garden as I remember it with all those vines by the gate. Oh, I miss it there a lot! I mean, I miss being in the Philippines – I especially miss the food, beaches, etc! *-*

  4. Everytime we have lunch at Dalampasigan, we never fail to order their “talitis” (similar to chicharon bulaklak)and sisig…Their halo-halo is also good, enough for two persons to share…mmmmmmmm..so yummy even if we know that it’s calorific!!

  5. just what i needed on a rainy, post-earthquake day in hawaii. lola’s baked tahong and tanigue steak pictures. my aunt makes the leche flan as well.
    haay. i’m hungry and plate lunches here won’t cut it…

  6. I don’t have a complete address. I know how to get there. You just need to follow the road to Nasugbu and once you start to enter the town, you have to turn left and you’ll see Kainan sa dalampasigan. you will not reach the Church in Nasugbu. The best way is to ask the people once you are in town. There is a sign where you will turn left.

  7. wow… this was the Wedding reception of my parents when they got married in Nasugbu Church in 1977. My lola’s house is very near Dalampasigan but i never thought of going there. I didn’t know it’s still operational. Thanks for posting this Anton.

  8. I can remember Dalampasigan so well when it was on a roof top over looking the ocean. It was my hangout. I brought so many friends there to eat. My Tito Nards was a treasurer in that town. I visited him on week end and we always eat at Dalampasigan. It’s good to know it still exist. I was looking for it when I visited Philippines, but it was closed. They always have good food and great ambiance to it.

  10. Enjoyed dinner there with my co-workers last Sat night. Their sisig & bulalo is super! 🙂 Wasn’t too impressed with their pinakbet though. As for their leche flan, it was sooo good that we went back on Sun AM to get some for pasalubong to family back in Manila.
    Do bring a camera when you dine there. The place is an amazing backdrop for memorable photos.

  11. was there today at lunch and service is very poor, we waited for 45 minutes just to get the food..we served ourselves from ordering to paying…we almost wanted to clear the tables ourselves just to get ourselves seated on a clean table
