The Holy Bread of Padre Pio?

By

It is interesting that this was a fake Holy Bread of Padre Pio after further investigation but it was quite interesting to check out how good the bread is 🙂 I decided to keep this post to serve as a public service to all those families who might get this Hemin bread circulating in Manila. Here is the excerpt on the Padre Pio Bread instructions:

——————————————————————————————————

This is called the Hemin Bread. It is the bread of Padre Pio and it comes from the Vatican. It brings blessings to every family who eats it. According to the instructions, on the 10th day, you must give it to other good people. Here is the entire recipe and complete instructions for making this Hemin Bread. I’m sure one of these days, this blessed bread will come your way.

REMEMBER: YOU CANNOT REFUSE THE BREAD ONCE IT IS GIVEN TO YOU AND YOU CAN ONLY USE A WOODEN SPOON.

WHAT TO DO?
Once you receive the dough, put it in a large glass bowl. It must be covered with either wax paper or plastic wrap and put it on the table/ counter at room temperature. Do not put in the fridge.

On the FIRST and SECOND DAY: DO NOT TOUCH THE DOUGH. It must adapt and absorb to its surroundings and take in the atmosphere. This is what makes each batch so unique from family to family.

On the THIRD and FOURTH DAY: MIX THE DOUGH WITH A WOODEN SPOON ONCE PER DAY.

On the FIFTH DAY: ADD TO THE DOUGH 1 CUP OF MILK. 2 CUPS OF FLOUR AND 1 CUP OF SUGAR. MIX WELL WITH A WOODEN SPOON.

On the SIXTH TO THE NINTH DAY: MIX DOUGH WITH A WOODEN SPOON ONCE PER DAY.

On the TENTH DAY: ADD TO THE DOUGH 1 CUP OF MILK, 2 CUPS OF FLOUR AND 1 CUP OF SUGAR. MIX WELL WITH WOODEN SPOON. When mixed well, separate the dough in four (4) equal portions. You give away three (3) of these portions to three (3) different people.

You keep the fourth portion of the dough. YOU MUST ADD 1/4 CUP SUGAR, 3 EGGS, 1/2 CUP OIL and 2 TEASPOONS BAKING POWDER. Mix well with a wooden spoon. Grease a loaf pan. Bake in the oven at 325 degrees for 30 minutes.

Remember:
YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO MAKE THIS HEMIN BREAD ONCE IN YOUR LIFETIME.

We are on our 9th day and we plan to bake our bread soon. We’ll let you know how our Hemin bread tastes like. Let me know if you have also tried this hemin bread already even though it is fake 🙂 It is interesting to know where this Hemin Bread chain originated.

  1. anton, i attend the weekly mass at the padre pio center and it is so timing that you posted this as it was discussed during the mass that the padre pio center in italy does not recognize this as originating from padre pio. however the concept is a great idea -that is we are sharing bread with one another.

  2. so how much dough does this dough go for, bro?
please provide us with your expose’ on this faux loaf!
    what’s next, mother theresa cookies????

  3. My sister got that letter a while ago. She eventually forgot to keep track of the dates and ended up trashing it.
Upon reading it, my first thought was that chain letters are evolving lol

  4. hmmmm…interesting??? baka naman masarap talaga yan pag nabake na, sulit din yung paghihintay mo.one thing more, sharing is a good virtue, yun nga lang hindi ka dapat nanloloko ng kapwa mo. I’ll wait for your next blog… God bless you more!

  5. but what about the ummm, germs? like what if your kid sneezes on it and you unknowingly pass on the flu virus to people, who pass it on to more people etc. or if your milk is rancid, or if your flour has kuto hehe. but i guess if you bake it, i guess the germs will disappear. (i’m just guessing coz i don’t cook). just being paranoid! 🙂

  6. Hi Anton, This sounds a lot like the Amish Friendship Bread that is circulated here during the holidays. Like most things Amish, there are no shortcuts, natural fermentation occurs in the 10 days before baking. Stainless steel equipments like a mixing bowl or spoon actually reacts with the fermented batter and affects the taste, ergo only use glass bowls and wooden spoons. If you Google this topic, you can even find several interesting flavors you can do with the resulting batter. You can also use this batter for pancakes, cupcakes, etc. Incidentally, you should allow it to ferment in a large zip-loc bag instead of leaving it out in the open, just to play it safe.

  7. Hi Anton, I’m a long time reader but first time commenter. This sounds like a combination of Herman starter (hemin?) and the Amish friendship bread starter. Love your blog, btw.

  8. wow! fake pala yun.. hehehe actually nagcirculate na dito sa office yan, nag-start sa director and vice president for productions for our group.. hahaha funny, one my colleague wanted to give me that pero i declined, wala lang parang hinde ko lang feel hahaha…
thanks for sharing anton! and keep your cool work here in your blog 🙂

  9. I’ve been trying to pass this on to people, but no luck I gave away 2 and can’t find anyone who will take the third one, what happens if I can’t pass on one, will I be jinxed? HA. HA ,HA.

  10. Hi anton I think you may want to read on some books on sourdough breads. It more less had the same process. 🙂

  11. How about the enclosed prayers? Don’t tell me those are also fake. Of course not..Whether it is fake or not, didn’t u get the point? Somebody wants us to practice giving, sharing and brotherhood among us..If you believe the bread is a fake or hoak, just remember how many poor starving people could be fed by this bread if this would be practice by more sensitive filipinos, at least… Didn’t Jesus Christ fed 5 thousand people with just a handful of bread? Well, i hope we also can..

  12. I have received the instructions for the Padre Pio bread. Today is day 7. I will stir once. Listen friends, this is how I look at it. Whether this is fake or not, I am not willing to trash something I am not certain about. Padre Pio is a saint, and I need graces! By the way…it clearly states in the instructions, to give the three sections of dough to three GOOD people. I’m glad I was considered as such 🙂

  13. Dear Anton and friends. Today, Saturday, was day 10 of the making of Hemin, better known as Padre Pio’s bread. After finding 3 good people, and giving them equal portions, I added the necessary ingredients to my portion and baked it at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. I let it cool before cutting into it. I cut a slice for myself and a slice for my husband. He whispered his own personal prayers as I did the same. Then, without hesitation, we ate our piece. Not bad! Not sweet! Not sourdough. Different. Something that can’t be compared to anything else we’ve ever had. Then I remembered, it wasnt about the TASTE. It was about community and sharing. It’s also about finding out more about Padre Pio’s life. He was a wonderful man, and he is renewed in my mind b/c of this bread!

  14. My friend gave to me the one fourth portion of dough exactly 10th day on her hand last jan. 1, 2007 ( new year). As she said, she considered me as one of her good persons she knew..ok! i accepted it, but that night i my husband had a big quarrel for something that cause big trouble and i left home and we reconciled last jan 3..oh no! what i did i instructed my companion in the house to cook it like hot cake for i thought i cant go back soon and for me it cant help because instead of goodluck but look it’s new year, no unity!very bad!…thats what i felt..im sorry for that because when i received it last jan 1..i had a bad dream like bad spirits attack to me 2 times that night!..better i woke up suddenly..
When i consulted this to my friend who gave this to me..she also asked me for discernment because last new year supposedly all members of her family ate it the baked one, it could no longer happen because her daughter in japan called her for something but that cause big quarrel about their discussion we dont know what was it..the next day jan 2 that was the time members of her household ate it..they claimed;very sour!not good in their taste but my friend everyday she ate religiously ate it..but yesterday, jan 4..she said when we met since she ate the bread jan 2, jan 3, she had a bad dream like she saw in her dream disaster and death person…
I dont know what coincidence is that but for we better pray, pray, pray and dont accept anything like no basis at all. thanks!

  15. i just ate my bread this morning with coffee. i couldn’t look it up on the internet due to our system crashing before new years. my daughter is afraid to eat it and didn’t want me to eat it either. bread tastes pretty good, not sour. she asked me if i really believed that it would bring good luck, i replied “i’m not taking any chances”. if things don’t go well then i would say “i should have done the bread”. i looked up info on other sites and the info there was that it was a good tradition, sharing is sharing.

  16. When I received the bread this past Friday night, I didn’t look at the directions and I put it in the fridge. I took it out yesterday – the third day of receiving it. I did put it in a glass bowl with plastic wrap yesterday. Should I toss this and ask my friends for a new mix or should I keep it and treat today like it’s the fourth day or the 2nd day. Please advise ASAP.

  17. i received the hemin bread 10 days ago, given by a very dear friend from New Jersey. my husband and i live in New York and i was quite surprised to find out the hemin bread has been in manila for quite a time now. it ddn’t occur to me that this could be like “chain mail” up until the 3rd day, and admittedly i had doubts as to whether i should pass the dough on the 10th day or just keep it and not contribute to the fad. i decided to bake and share the dough anyway, since i ddn’t see any harm in doing so, and as what the other bloggers have said, “sharing is sharing.” any act without FAITH is useless (as much as any faith without action is dead), so i think as long as you know the principle behind the tradition, it’s alright to pass it on.

  18. I got the dough 9 days ago, and Friday night/Saturday morning will be the 10th day. I don’t know anyone to give the (3) portions to, so I posted on Craigs List hoping someone will respond. I know the instructions said to give to good people you know, but just about everyone I know are Muslim or Aitheist. Can anyone give me the heads up on: if it’s okay to give the bread away to strangers.

  19. Went step by step and baked the bread on the tenth day. It was delicious!! We ate it warm and then at breakfast the next day. I agree with bambi and to Elizabeth; it’s probably fine to give away, but why not just bake yourself if you’re in doubt…..

  20. MY QUESTION IS I FOLLOW ALL THE STEPS FOR MY HOLY BREAD ON SUNDAY JANUARY 7 WAS MY TENTH DAY AND I DID IT VERY LATE CLOSE TO MIDNIGHT WHEN I BAKE MY HOLY BREAD. ON MONDAY JANUARY 8TH, WAS THE 11TH DAY MY MOM TOOK HER PART TO MEXICO AND MY OTHER TWO PARTS I PUT THEM IN THE FRIDGE SINCE I WAS NOT ABLE TO DELIVER THEM TO MY TWO GOOD PEOPLE. TODAY IS JANUARY 16 AND STILL IS IN THE FRIDGE CAN I STILL GIVE THEM TODAY TO MY TWO GOOD PEOPLE? PLEASE LET ME KNOW THE WHOLE WEEK MY WORK LOAD WAS UNBELIABLE AND I NEVER GOT TO DELIVER THEM.

  21. I got this hemin bread las night and I don’t know if it’s really true, until I read your message. But for me,faith in God is more effective than baking any bread. Besides, we do not know where it really came from. Anybody can make a bread and chain letters too, and make a lie that it came from a holy place.

  22. curiosity about this “holy bread” made me search the web since on tuesday jan. 23 will be the 10th day since i received the dough. i have already informed 3 good persons who are willing to receive their share. learning it was fake and that the catholic church does not recognize the practice i guess it is still okay to pass it on. it must be the concept of giving and sharing that somebody started this. anyway you’re only allowed to have this once in your lifetime, that is if we believe. i guess in some way we are blessed if we share what we have without questions.

  24. hi! just wanted to ask if there were an instance that one had stomach aches after eating the bread, knowing that these dough had been passed on?!

  25. Hi Anton,
I am glad to find your messages coming from others.
I live in Sikatuna Village, and our church is the Divine Mercy Church at Maamo St. We got the dough of the Hemin Bread last Jan 20th, and today is our 6th day of following the instructions.
I needed some background information on the Hemin bread, and I started searching the web until I found your messages. I wish to thank all the persons who shared their experiences. I will still continue the procedure, and work on my faith to accept the opportunity of participating in sharing this bread. Fake or not, it does create a value of sharing which is most needed today.I pray that once we eat it, the grace of God can be bestowed on us. Do we not believe that everything that happens to us comes from God? I pray that this comes from God. But, I wish that the real information on Hemin bread comes out. Thank you for all the information read on your bulletin.Eldy

  26. we also got this hemin bread. we’re actually on the second day. we got this from a neighbor. at first we did not read the instructions and placed it in the fridge. we are really curious about this. we wonder if this bread tastes great when done…

  27. Hi, good day to you. My brother-in-law just gave the dough and the instructions to my wife this morning and I got curious and started to search the web for more information. Some call the bread a hoax while others are hopeful that it can bring them luck.
Anyway, as I was searching for information, one important detail was left out at all the searches I made. The PRAYERS that go with the instructions. The copy we got had a novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus to be prayed by the family for 10 days.
I don’t know if the bread brings luck or not but one thing is for sure. A family praying together for a duration of 10 days is a sure miracle in itself.
I’m gonna try this with my family and the Lord knows that we all need a miracle.
    Thanks for reading the comment.

  28. Just got the Hemin bread today. Was reluctant at first and is still a bit hesitant as to the germ factor, but I guess what matters here is not just the bread but the faith that you exercise in accepting and sharing it to others. 🙂

  29. I received the dough, January 31, 2007 at the office in the morning. And im going to school in the evening, anytime i place the plastic ware which the dough is placed, from Marjorie, all people is asking me what is that… “It looks delicious”
Even a teacher of mine in Taxation asked me “Could we eat that?” I told her its a Holy Bread, the Hemin, and she told me that she was waiting for her portion from a friend, which she is waiting long time ago, *What if I gave her the 1 of one fourth dough?
I decided to gave my classmates a taste on it.
As I got home, my dad was in his mood, when he saw me bringing a plastic full of groceries – its the ingredients for the bread.(Thank’s I still have money in my pocket)
He said “Ganyan bah, me dala pag-uwi.” *(coz its like im still 17 and im working as a working scholar in an cooperative here in Mindanao particularly at Davao- and not supposed to go home like a mother. LOL,*.
    The thing goes:
Im now at my second day. Since there is no wooden spoon in the kitchen, because its on the other house, i decided to have the wooden barbecue stick. Still ok?
I dont have idea about the prayers.. Should i cast it during the stirring or i read it when im praying?
It’s a sort of a chain, yah! But its up to you if you would believe or not.. “Wala naman ding mawawala sau pag ginawa mo un dbah?” Another, my officemate who gave the dough to me, gave me a slice of the bread she baked… She did using the steam.. It taste good..
I hope good things will work.. God bless you guys! And goodluck for my bread! 🙂

    Take care again! 🙂

  30. I believe the Pio bread scheme is another bothersome chain letter. I’d like to confirm this so I can pass along any verification to my duped friends.

  31. does anyone know how much a quarter portion is? Because I don’t have containers all the same size that I can eyeball the amount, so I need a measurement.

  32. thanks, Anton, for the answer. I ended up putting them in just plain bowls and then I used one to make the bread. It’s baking right now. I have a question, though, about the “dough.” It’s awfully moist and I poured it in the pan. Is this the way it’s supposed to be?

  33. It’s a sort of a chain! But its up to you if you would believe or not..and the idea is great – Sharing
just received a dough lastnyt from a neighbour, my yaya handed it to me saying a prayer is needed for.. don’t know if it’s for luck or what..stil I asked my yaya to get the intsructions & hav it photocopied at once. My plan is to ask somebody (in church or somebody na religious) coz am a working mom, don’t have much tym reading that kind of stuff. I’m kinda a “pilosopo” when it comes sa mga ganyan. So wat I did, i search sa Net..thanks to Anton’s blog. The dough ended in garbage..I always share my blessings nman eh!

  35. this is my 4th day of doin’ the hemin bread tapos nabasa ko yung mga nakapost dito parang i want to stop the process na.please help me..i know padre pio do miracles kaya parang nakokonsensya naman ako kung basta ko na lang siya itatapon.help.thank you.

  36. Today’s our 10th day and the Hemin bread tastes great! We even spread Cheezee on it..Had questions in my mind about the dough at the start because it contained milk and 10 days is quite a long time to just put it out there in room temperature..but the result was good! No regrets doing it..I believe it’s really a “Miracle” bread.. but ours didn’t come with a novena..maybe someone sometime omitted giving it out? or someone sometime included the novena?..whatever happened..still nothing wrong with “sharing ” the bread.. and saying the prayers..
    God bless us all!

  37. i got this dough 11 days ago along w/ instructions on what to do and 3 pages of prayers which i had to say once a day for 10 days while i worked on the bread.. it’s kind of disheartening to know that it’s fake.. but nonetheless, i’ll still pass it to other people so that they’ll be motivated to pray.. plus, the bread tastes good…. ^^

  38. Hi Father Levis, Web of Faith is my favorite show! A very holy Catholic woman gave me this Hemin bread(which is really dough- to be baked). She told me it was Padre Pio bread and it comes from the Vatican. It comes with simple instructions to follow for 10 days, then divide it into 4 parts – give 3 away and bake the 4th portion. At first I was excited (I LOVE Padre Pio) now it sounds a little weird. I want to be 100% Catholic; what does the Church say is the right thing to do? Pax et bonem – Janet
This reply came from the priest.
Janet, This is a blessed tradition, the origin of which I am not familiar; but it is a wonderful tradltion. I recommend it. Fr. Bob Levis.
You know it would help a great deal if you stop doing this….At least let other people believe in Miracles, than just you mocking and saying that it is a “fake bread”. For people who are sick they look at it as some kind of hope for them to be cured of their sickness….You have to think and say to yourself that really the world needs miracles to believe on.
    ACEL

  39. Hi Anton,
I made the bread and it tastes good. It is actually like a pound cake. I gave it to my three friends and their also tasted good. I guess it doesn’t matter if it didn’t originate from Vatican afterall. It is a matter of faith and good intentions. And my friend who has always been scared of baking has now found come confidence in it and will try other recipes.
I love your blog, btw. =) Good job.

  40. hi! i just recieved a dough from my boss just few hours ago. I put it in a glass bowl already……and im just really curious what is this bread really! BUT upon reading the life of St. Padre Pio and the comments of those who received the bread (regardless if they follow the instructions or not) I think what is important is SHARING…there is no harm in trying though…it is also stated there that you should give it to 3 other good people on the 10th day….the good thing is knowing someone who believes in you that youre good..RIGHT? Through this, ive known Padre Pio and his works.
By the way, thank you Anton … your blog is really helpful!

  41. My wife just got a hemin bread from a kumare and it is the first day of theat bread lying in our dining table. I research about it and found your blog. with different comments posted regarding the Hemin bread. I am skeptic about it.
But my wife told me she has nothing to lose.
    Okay.
btw we are here in Davao. Could you imagine the reach of this hemin bread? It goes places now!

  42. i got one when i visited an adoration chapel, it was placed there by someone i do not know, i havent read your blog yet that time but what drew me to get one is that it was “from Padre Pio”, after reading your blog i have doubts cause i do not know from whom it came from and not know how it was handled. Now i think i’ll just wait for another “hemin” to come from someone whom i know.
thanks a lot for the info anton and God Bless!

  43. Me and my friend received the dough 10 days ago. we are in the process of having it baked. it’s just now that i learned that it is fake, per se. just the same, fake or not, the idea of someone who cared for us, passed on the dough to us for us to received more blessings, is a blessing on its own.
for us, it is a matter of faith. Faith that miracles and blessings do exists, just as their is air around us that we cannot see but can only feel and breathe.
we are unemployed. much as we have a small business, it is just enough to pay the bills, but not enough to pay other obligations. fake or not, in the 10 days that we have the dough, we got ourselves jobs to cover our obligations. that alone, is a blessing.
there is nothing wrong in believing in something good. as it begets good things too.

  44. hey.. im just curious… who started this bread.. i mean where does it originate.. am from philippines.. & like others, we received from our neighbor.. THE MYSTERIOUS BREAD 🙂

  45. Before I accepted this bread, the person had me read the instructions and tell her if I can do it. I said I would do it and I am on my 5th day. However, I did not read all the way to the last few lines about giving the dough to three other good people, but I was thinking, what if I did not give the dough to three people, and instead decided to just bake it, then share it that way? I decided to go on-line and find out more about this bread. Now I know what this is all about, and that there is more to it than just passing the dough. I will probably bake the bread and send one to my sister. I hope that what I will do with the bread on the 10th day is the right thing to do for me. By the way, this dough was given to me by a friend from Revere, MA and I am from Lynn, MA.

  46. actually, i’m having second thoughts about doing the whole routine. i usually say, “when in doubt, cast out.” besides, i have no oven at home. anybody tried this in an oven toaster with no temperature control? i forgot to stir it yesterday, btw. now, the dough has reduced by 50%. you think the microbes are dead? kaya lang, i’m kinda nakokonsyensya ’cause my friends at work have done this. the bread doesn’t come out the same foer everyone though. when my friend got hers, the container was almost busrting at the seams. when i got mine, it had the consistency of hot cake mix.

  47. it’s past 10 days now since i received the “hemin bread” with the novena booklet for padre pio, i wasn’t able to follow the instruction but i continued my novena inspite of not following the instruction.
my family was curious with the dough, they said it smell rotten and i explained it to them about the novena that comes with the bread and then my sister said that i don’t need a bread to pray and so when i forgot to mix milk, flour and sugar on the fifth day, i just continued to pray.
i told my officemates that i would give them the bread and when i found out it was sort of fake, i said i’d just give them the novena and i’d buy them a bread. eventhough i didn’t share the hemin bread, i shared the novena, they are good people so i know they will pray.

  48. What’s wrong with the bread? It is through faith that we receive the grace of God. It is in praying that we are blessed. Faith without work is dead. That portion of the dough (hemin) is something you must give time, talent, and treasure. You are holding on something you must share with others out there, hoping that they do the same. We are not save by this bread but but by the faith and the good deeds we do. Hold on to your faith and do something good for others. Share this dough to others. Am giving 3T’s to this dough and am on the 6th day. It gave me more time to think about God and others. (This dough may be the sign that you are praying for). Lastly, do something better for the LOVE of GOD.

  50. I would believe that this bread has something in it because while I was baking the bread, I was asking Padre Pio how I will know if the bread is already cooked. And you know what the window in our kitchen suddently closed w/ a loud bang. I took it to mean that the bread is already cooked and so I turned off the oven. Thru enough, the dough is already cooked and I passed it on to everyone in the house to eat it. Doing it for the sake of Padre Pio I’m sure will make him happy.

  51. I’m on my 6th day but up to now i’m still having doubt whether i would continue or not. If ever i would continue i might just give the dough to 3 good people. Besides, our oven has not been used for years and i don’t know if still working…. hahahahah
I basically do not believe in chain letters. I have put my faith to GOD and not to this sort of things.
Like others, sharing is good. So, as i write this comment, I have decided to just give bread to poor people on my 10th day (who does not have an oven to bake the dough) together with the prayer (to obtain the Glorification of Padre Pio). In this case, there is a big chance of reaching more people in need or starving (just like during Father Pio’s time). My GOD is a loving GOD, he will not judge nor he will not bless me simply because I did not bake and share the dough. GOD BLESS!

  52. Are we actually discussing the validity of ‘Magic Bread’ ?
Someone gave me mine four days ago and today i’m supposed to add to it.
If you believe this bread will attract good luck to you, it will.
If you believe this bread will give you gas pains, it will.
If you believe this bread will trigger you to play more tennis, it will.
As a Law of Universe: You get what you accept as true, whether or not you eat a GIANT MAGIC CRACKER and pass along the dough or not.
God’s High Favor is all over me every day, I see it and live it every second of every day… My King gives me every Good Grace and Blessing a man could ever ask for, and in return, I Believe in Him.
Besides… are you really going to eat something that has Touched, licked, pissed on, and otherwise passed around between 100 different people’s kitchens ?
    Not me!

  53. My sister and my friends also got their letters and bread several days ago, so they’re into the whole baking and praying thing right now. True, fake or not, the Hemin Bread thing creates a value of sharing.
BUT I also believe that novenas should be taken seriously (syempre). So I would never pray for the intercession of something that isn’t true.
I did a little research and got this:
    http://www.catholic-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7592
From GVALLEJO: “I am from Cebu-Philippines. We are being warned by our beloved
Cardinal, Ricardo Vidal from receiving this so called “holy bread of Padre Pio”. It is a spiritual fallacy/false belief and there is no recommendation coming from Italy about it nor from San Giovanni Rotundo which is the monastery where Padre Pio lived and died. It is also the official center of the Padre Pio devotion throughout the world. This is not even acknowledged by the Padre Pio Contemplative Community here in Cebu as being publicized by its spiritual director, Fr. Nilo Igloria. Instead, we are encouraged to give reverence to geniune relics officially endorsed by the church.”
Very good point, don’t you think? I mean there’s nothing wrong with sharing and of course, with praying. But if you’re praying a novena based on a spiritul fallacy, then that’s wrong. I learned from our Parish Priest Jojo Zerrudo na, don’t just say “na walang namang mawawala kung gagawin.” Kasi merong nawawala. Yung faith natin. Little by little, we are losing our faith because of our wrong practices. If you want to share, then do so by giving to the poor. If you want to pray, then pray earnestly, try fasting and abstinence (since Lent naman). But don’t disrespect the Catholic Church by trying to bend the rules and practices for your own advantage. Let’s give reverence to genuine relics endorsed by the Church. Let’s not pass this tradition to the next generation because it’s wrong…

  54. Today is the tenth day of our Padre Pio Bread. It did taste sour and I was hesitant to make everyone in the house finish their share. I believe that the passing of the bread is the main purpose of this Blessed Bread. To pray and be thoughtful to the people around us. We did appreciate receiving it from our friend. it really has a great concept behind it. With regards to the safety of eating it, I pray that we will all be ok….I believe we will and the blessing behind it would be the thought of breaking bread with your household and the sharing of love and appreciation to the families you pass this bread to. For whatever reason we did this and followed every step of the instruction, I’m just glad that someone appreciated us and sent us the Padre Pio Bread.

  55. Were on our second day today since our ninang sa kasal gave us a portion of the hemin dough, para samin walang mawawala kung i try namin, but still belief and faith comes no.1. catholic ako and i believe in miracles. it smells a bit sour but our ninang told us na once you bake it, masarap ang lasa at ang nakapagtataka ay di daw sya nasisira, reaction lang ng milk siguro yung amoy maasim. actually i told a friend na bibigyan ko sya ng portion, pero ayaw nya, good luck na lang sa kanila.basta ako desidido akong gawin at sundin ang instructions, we have nothing to lose naman.Padre Pio bless us!

  56. my mother received the dough last week and we followed all the instructions until the last day. the bread tasted quite odd, honestly. however, my entire family believes that faith(and the act of sharing) makes this bread special. i was surfing through the internet and decided to research about the hemin bread tonight. knowing that it is fake (a week after making, and eating and passing on the dough) doesn’t affect me in any way. i was just glad to see my entire family praying the enclosed prayers together. we normally ask for people to pray for us, why not ask a good soul such as Padre Pio to do the same? the bread is just a symbol of one family’s prayers and blessings to be passed on to other families.

  57. Folks,
I’ve read this entire blog and then researched until my I thought my eyeballs would fall out. Here are my conclustions – for whatever they are worth…
    1. Is the bread holy? Only God makes things holy, and if you ask with faith, I bet God would make your bread holy.
    2. Does it bring luck? I find that the more I live my faith the luckier I get.
    3. Does it spread germs? Well, lets put it this way: do you eat in restaurants? Do you eat from salad bars? Do you touch the handle of the door on your way out of public restrooms? Alrighty then, getting sick from any germs in this bread should be the least of your worries (unless of course you eat it raw).
    4. Does it come from the Vatican or San Giovanni Rotondo? Nope. So what! Many things Catholics practice did not originate in the Vatican. That doesn’t mean that they can’t serve to increase faith. Besides, it is not forbidden by the Vatican. Followed properly the Padre Pio bread tradition would have to fall under the Nihil Obstat umbrealla.
    5. Is it a waste of time? That depends on you. All you believers and especially you doubters try this and see how it moves you:
    A. when you get the bread, go to confession (a good one where you take time to prepare beforehand, strive to be as completely honest and open as humanly possible during the confession, and follow through with your penance.) Make note of the sins you have confessed and try at all costs to avoid them for the time you have the dough.
    B. Try to receive Holy Communion at least at the beginning (day 1) and at the end (day 10).
    C. Make an act of charity each day that you have the dough: drink water and donate the money you would spend on a drink/coffee/whatever to charity, etc…
    D. Begin the Novena to the Sacred Heart or the Novena to St. Padre Pio on the day 1 and follow through with it until day 9. If you have family/children, invite them to pray and work the dough with you.
    E. Day 10: while the bread is baking, pray the Holy Rosary.
    F. Then invite people you care about, people you know are in need (physically, emotionally, spiritually), especially children, to your home. Set a table as if for an afternoon tea. Place images/statues/pictures/whatever of Jesus, Mary, Joseph (the Holy Family) and Padre Pio in the center of the table and light some candles. Say a Grace. Share with your guests your Padre Pio bread, BUT MORE IMPORTATNTLY SHARE WITH THEM THE EXPERIENCE YOU HAD OVER THE 10 DAYS.
If you do these things honestly and openly, people will beg you for a portion of the dough.
Also, if you really can’t find someone to give it to, bake it all and give 3 portions away to the poor. If everyone that was exposed to this bread baked portions of it for the poor, soup kitches and homesless shelters would never have to buy bread again.
*** A couple of things I do not think are authentich are the following: 1) luck, I think people added the luck portion along the way to discourage people from just throwing the dough away; 2) that it originated in the Vatican/San Giovanni Rotondo/or where ever, I think people added this along the way to try and give the bread more credibility; and 3) passing on only the bread and the instructions, this bread is meant to be passed along with the Novena (you work the dough for 9 days — coincidence you say?).
Soooooo, any takers out there? Any believers up for an awesome spiritual experience? Any detractors wanna put their money where their mouth is? Feel free to email me your results.
May Jesus Bless you, Padre Pio intercede for you and your Guardian Angel be always at your side. “Pray, hope and dont’ worry!”
Look forward to hearing from you.
    MGM

  58. how come did you know that it’s was fake? and who investigate it? who are the group of people investigate it? are you one of them? pls. give more details on how d investigations was done..

  59. Just tried the bread a few hours ago. Not bad, tasted like dessert, actually. I found it really strange that the instructions said you could only eat it once in your lifetime…

  60. I baked it at dawn but did not follow some of the instructions. I am eating it now, tastes somewhat like pound cake cept for the slightly fermented taste and smell of bread. i would lessen the sugar if it were up to me but it’s good as it is, really.
    what i didn’t follow:
used a plastic rice spoon instead of wooden spoon
just covered it with a plate (didnt say wax paper in the instructions)
considered the following day (after it was given to me) as the First Day
Was only able to bake it on the 13th day
Baked 2 portions of the 4, for giveaway (since i ran out of people to give it to – the ones who bake have received this already)
probably more importantly – i forgot about the prayer part – ihahahabol ko na lang tonight!
i have some misgivings about this – for one, how would you know if the people who have given you this (or those further up the line of the network) were hygienic in preparing the dough – or followed the instructions well enough – (that’s why i had to taste it for myself before i decide to give away remaining portions)? i guess the fermentation process was a natural germ killer huh :))

  63. helow… my ngbigay sa akin nitong hemit bread na ito… but my family did not believe in it… but i do believe in it because i am religious…i was studying in a catholic school kc…. OUR LADY OF PEACE SCHOOL…. Wel, i would just like to know kung proven ba ito ng catholic church???

  64. hello.i have received this bread and i do not believe that it comes from the Holy Bread of Father Pio. The letter that comes with it is not from the Vatican.
This bread is more like a friendship bread, but i think other people had to make up things so that the passing of the bread from one family to another will continue.
my dough is going on its 5th day. i hope it is really good cause i hate to waste the ingredients that i will add to it. i love baking so i am giving this a try. but i will not force or beg other families to take the dough on the 10th day. i might just bake the 4 loaves and give the 3 away.
only God can make miracles… that is my belief. i am a Roman Catholic.
this bread is just another friendship letter in another form. hope i don’t get a tummy ache.
Pray to God and obey his commandments.

  65. Wow, this Hemin bread is really popular and works like network. I live here in NY and saw your blog so I have to post my comment about this fallacy.
I received this dough from a relative and I was kind of reluctant to take it. I made a research if this Hemin bread is real but I don’t see any articles about this holy bread that originate from Italy. I even asked our Pastor that he never realized that this bread exists. He said that what’s important is to receive the Holy Body of Christ in Holy Mass.
This sounds to me as another Amish friendship bread as an act of sharing.
Just for curiosity, I baked the bread and it’s kind of sour, my children did not touch it so I trash it.
God bless and Happy Easter to all…

  66. my mom got also this holy bread daw, and we have an arguement about this stuff, if its true or a fake one, its the matter of faith, just like noa’s arc remember? people are laughing at noa why he built an arc at the mountain though there is no water, they dont believe of this “great flood” but in the end those people who dont believe suffer this great lunop 😉 .. but for me its still confusing, why? beacause there are microorganisms that is present in every ingredients that the dough has.. i know whats the reason why he dont want to place the dough in the fridge because if the dough will preserve the microorganisms will also_______ and once the dough was pulled out from the fridge the microorganism will multiply more and more.. ha?????
akong problema is maniwala ba ako o hindi????? ano???

  67. wait!! ang sabi ni kay wala daw syang nakitang artikulo na nanggagaling ito sa italy, pero nakasaad dito sa photocopy namin na nanggaling ito sa vatican. research ko muna ha……

  68. the chain bread taste so good. my brod gave a quarter-part of his dough on the 10th day and i also tasted the baked cake and it was so delicious.. “muy sabroso”, as i would describe. in fact i am planning to produce a kind of this for our own consumption lang naman o kaya sell in our outlet store. we will name it then “alahemin bread” oks ba??

  69. mabuhay!!!
baked the bread, and man it was good. i would agree with others to lessen the sugar if you don’t want it sweet.
i won’t be giving the other doughs cause when i asked my in-laws if they were willing to do the experiment, they declined. i will bake again in 10 days and give some to my in-laws cause the bread i baked this pm is gone. i made 6 small loaves. naubos po ang tinapay!!!
wish i had this during christmas. could have given the street children.

  72. after reading all this & i’m on my 6th day, i will just bake the whole stuff on the 10th day, leave a portion & give away the rest. that way, i don’t need to bother them to mix, wait, add flour and somehow it will help to stop this G0d-using mechanism.

  73. just had the other three parts shared to good persons whom i thunk deserve to have the blessing. Fake or not, there would be no harm if you try. It would only cost you a little to do and follow what is instructed. I am a catholic but not a devotee. It came timely during the holy week so i guess it was my way of sharing a piece of me to others.

  75. what happens if u forget to do a step i mess up on day five , so what do i do?do i add a day?make day 6: 5-6?i need someone to tell me wat to do?????

  77. My mom got her share from my sister’s boyfriend over the weekend. She was also given some a few weeks ago but she threw it away kasi baka daw masira yun tiyan niya if we decided to bake it. Out of respect for my sister’s feelings, she has decided to go through with the experiment. We have a standing joke now, on the tenth day, after eating mamatay ka kasi bulok na yun bread. Sama ba?

  78. My mom received this from her friend and we baked it. It tasted okay naman, but it wasn’t bread! It turned out like a cake.
I didn’t know it was a fake!! Yikes!

  79. I just pray na hindi sasakit ang tyan ng mga binigyan ko. May dalawa pa ako d2, nagdadalawang isip ako kng ibibgay ko pa ba. Im on the 12th day na kasi…natagalan ako kc i encode again the instruction and the prayer d na kasi mababasa.

  80. I also got that hemin bread and it’s quite interesting that all the while.. I thought that it is really true… well I guess ther’s nothing wrong if I eat that..

  81. got our share last night, i’ve already put the dough in a glass bowl and covered it with plastic wrap.
i was delighted when i received it.
call it hoax, call it fake but i think it’s really the act of sharing that’s being communicated here.
the hemin bread reminded me of the story of the traveller’s magic soup (which i read when i was a little girl). it goes something like this:
a poor traveller passed by a town and with nothing to eat and no one to give him food, he pulled out his cooking pot from his backpack and put some water into it, then he started to light a fire to let it boil. poeple in the town got curious about what he is going to cook and gathered around him and asked what he is cooking. he said he is cooking a stone soup. he lifted the cover of the pot, put a shiny pebble inside and waited for it to boil. then he tasted the water and said that it tasted good but just needed some salt to perfect the taste. somebody from the crowd immediately ran home and handed him some salt. the traveller stirred and tasted the soup and said that it was delicious but could be tastier had he some leftover meat. again, somebody from the crowd ran home and handed some leftover chicken. the traveller put it inside the pot and stirred some more. the traveller tasted it and said it would be a soup fit for a king if only there are some potatoes and some herbs. quickly, some people ran and got back with some potatoes and herbs and spices. the traveller took it and put it inside the pot. then he tasted it and announced that the soup is superb and it’s ready to eat. he took the shiny pebble out and asked everybody around him to partake with the magic stone soup.
well the essence of that story is about sharing, too. the stone that the traveller put into the pot wasn’t magical at all because he cooked the soup in a regular way, he just made the people believe that the stone has magic powers. and this have made them share without them knowing it.
i guess i’ll do my hemin bread, it’s my second day. i was also thinking of the bacteria and the handling of the people that it came from but i think cooking will kill it. i already have my list of three good people, and who knows… blessings sometimes come in a disguise.

  82. I recieved the Padre Pio’s bread, and tomorrow may 18, 2007 will be the 10th day, I live in Orlando Florida and I would like to know if someone is interested to take one of three parts. I saw a video about Padre Pio and I was impressed about this great man, that’s why I received the bread. If you are devoted to him, please contact me at silber18@hotmail.com

  83. hi everyone…elow anton!
i have received the dough weeks ago (more than ten days already) but due to the enrolment at office works, i became so busy and forgot about it.. it’s just there in the corner and have never touched it even once… what shall i do with it? tapon ko na lng yun?

  84. yey! i’ve baked the humin bread last night (10th day) and ’twas superb. when i added the last batch of ingredients consisting of eggs, oil, sugar and calumet, nde na sha weird smelling. then i baked it at 350 degress for one hour, nde pa kc luto un loob nun half hour pa lang. mbango sha and tasted like butter pound cake with a hint of nuts. my in-laws said it tastes like a banana-langka loaf. i distributed the three portions to one of my friends, one of my officemates and one relative. i hope it will turn out great for them too. by the way, i re-encoded the instructions and the prayers that go with it, nde na kc readable. nga lang ung prayer to the sacred heart of Jesus like the one attached dun sa binigay sa akin eh la ako mkita na gnun kaya ung efficacious prayer to the sacred heart of Jesus (the one recited by padre pio) na lang ang isinama ko, i got the prayers from padre pio’s website. sabi nga nun brother-in-law ko na pinagmulan nun hemin dough ko eh mas maganda daw ung loaf ko kc ung knila eh nde msahdo umalsa and me konting asim. i followed every instruction naman except for the kind of milk that i’ve added to the batter – i used condensed milk kc. cguro natalo ng tamis ng milk un asim ng batter. but ung sweetness ng baked hemin loaf ko eh just right lang ung sweetness nya (kulang pa nga if ako tatanungin becuz of my sweet tooth, heheh).
i’m glad that you posted about hemin in your blog, very informative sha.
nice website, cool collections on anything pinas. keep it up.
by the way, i think i read somewhere in your posts that you’re from antipolo too. we live near the cathedral kc.

  85. hi, i got my share just today. I never heard of this until today so i search the internet for some infomation, i think all of us is actually anxious to know.
Well, I could not really say ‘No’ to my friend who gave this to me. The fact the she considers me a good person is already something. I could not decline. Secondly, Padre Pio has this strong effect on me and my family. My husband’s uncle gave us a copy of Padre Pio’s Novena prayer book and picture when i’m about to give birth to my second child, he told me, prayers to him can help relieved pain. I know Faith is the thing that really worked that night, I’m on a hard labor then and was told that i’ll wait for 8 more hours and if not, i’ll be send to CS Section. My husband and I started the prayers while in the labor room and only 30 mins had passed, i was fully dilated and transfered to DR and everything went on fine without such pain. I named my baby Pia, derived from Padre Pio), for my baby is a she.
Padre Pio died in 1968, the year I was born. then, so many coincidences, that people might think is just a made up instances. Anyways, back to this Hemin Bread, I could not say No to my friend, I could not say No to Padre Pio, fake or not, I might as well do this. There’s just something wrong with the instruction that goes with it. The ingredients was decreased by 1 cup flour and does not include the prayers, can I edit this basing from your recipe and copy? Thanks for your blog, i am enlightened.

  87. hahahaha, i made it up to 9th day and now will take it to its final step…exciting while following it though at the back of mind that is actually funny. but honestly it is my first baked dough. probly, il just reveal this to my frends later.
On the other hand, i find myself searching of who is really fr.pio and i found out that he is a man of God, an instrument of love. well then, inspire me now to spread not only that bread but love always.

  88. Got this bread from a friend of my wife. Got curious about it, researched on it and found this blog.
I guess it really is about the SHARING and spending time to pause.- to stop living in our worldly materialistic lives and get down to basics. Last night my wife and I spent a few minutes stirring the milk, flour and sugar into the mix. – in those few minutes, I realize now that that was our quiet time spent together– no discussions about work, money, friends, business… just quiet time..together.
Makes one realize how we’ve forgotten about the basic things in life.. the simply joys. and just plain being with someone. sharing a moment with someone.
I’m glad we received the bread and we’re hoping the people we give it to will share that realization with us.
Thanks for the blog anton..I’m a first time reader.

  89. if the dough is not baked on the 10th day it will spoil.
believe me, i did my experiments.
    the bread is very good.

  90. My wife just arrived from 6pm mass.

  91. yes it reached our province however my faith couldn’t be diverted believing on the sacredness of this Hemin. How can it be called sacred if it is not consecrated and besides, the bread which God multiplied and gave to his disciples was unleavened. so, how come many people do srill believe or at least be carried away with ‘natural religiosity. The fact is , it is not the bread which can save us rather, it is our own self which should do somethig towards conversion inorder to be forgiven—that is when we will be truly converted and be saved.

  92. hi der, you know when i recieve this kind of bread somebody says tahat thais is fake but i dont believe that this is fake coz i know someday it will bring blessing to my family.

  93. hi,
If you have the dough bake it now and don’t wait for 10 days; what for? This is another type of chain letter and our parish priest don’t approve of it. But sharing the baked bread with the hungry is a virtue and don’t forget to give them away with St. Nicholas cheese; you ask me what it is? I don’t know. It only shows that most of us Catholics are gullible’ don’t even read our bible or talk to our parish priest. Just an observation; peace to all from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

  95. I am a first generation Italian. I grew up in the catholic church however not super religious now at 33. My father lived with cancer for 14 years and finally was conquered 5 years ago with lymphoma. We did not grow up extremely religious however it was an unspoken faith. The last few months of his life Pardre Pio was always there. He was in my dads conversations and my family’s discussions. We all silently prayed in our hearts I think to him. We sat at my dads hospital bed as he would awake with vivid dreams about the ocean and Padre Pio. Sure, it might have been effects of medication, however, if you ever saw a man on his death bed sit up with force and proclaim he was healed and he was ready, you also would have faith in Padre Pio. The next day my father died, with a smile. We saw he was ready to let go and know we would be ok when he left. I stated before i am not a practicing catholic but, i most certainly have faith of some sort. Padre pio was my dad’s savior. I was a witness that 3 am day before he passed . I am on day 6 of the bread and it does not matter if fortune comes to me in return. I know I did it and i can not wait to see my dad someday! He will know i did this!

  96. It is not a matter of fake or not fake…..It is a matter of FAITH, PRAYER and sharing of BREAD. Each day there is prayer prayed….with special intentions that is the True Meaning behind the preparation and sharing of the Bread. It’s not what others think…It stirs an awareness of truth within; if one is open (he/she will receive many graces) If one is closed minded (it’s their choice)theres always hope. So circulate and promote this prayful bread….keep the prayer flowing…..
May God Bless all who share in this special tradition with prayful hearts to share God’s Love with all.
    Peace in Jesus Name.

  104. Hi,
My wife received a hemin bread from a friend. I never thought she will do the instructions. Kasi ayaw kong maniwala dyan. But after reading this blog, I’m gonna eat the break on the 10th day, and will share the other portions to our friends here in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

  105. Hi it’s my tenth day today I baked it it tastes so sweet I used brown sugar. I didn’t know it was fake, what is the basis for this? I didn’t see anything wrong with it. I even accompanied it with a prayer and petition.

  106. Baked the bread on the 10th day, and it tasted good. We were only able to pass one portion. As for the other two portions – we also baked it, one portion with corn kernels, and the other with cheese. Not as disrespect to whoever started this chain, rather than trashing the two portions we served it to others – and we are proud to say it was delicious and was part of the hemin bread circulated.
What struck me with this chain was the inclusion of the novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus – I believe Padre Pio was a devotee of the Blessed Sacrament and the Virgin Mary. Anyway, those interested with the novena to the Sacred Heart – complete novena masses are held on fridays at the Sacred Heart Shrine in Kamagong, Makati (in other parishes too).

  107. It is sad to know that there are people out there who don’t have any faith left. you can not comment on something that you are not willing to give it a try. Also the whole point is that you are trying to reach out to other peole, and do something good for that person, wether it is real or not.

  108. Does anyone have the prayer(s) that are to go along with the Padre Pio Bread? I received the dough & instructions, but I did not receive any prayer(s). I looked up on this site & saw that it is supposed to come with prayer(s)…thanks

  109. wow!!! i actually got that hemin bread, last summer… my friend gave me one! well unfortunatly i failed to keep track with the dates, do i ended up, placing the dough inside teh garbage bag…. and to be honest, while mixing the dough, the smell wasn’t good!!

  110. wow!!! i actually got that hemin bread, last summer… my friend gave me one! well unfortunatly i failed to keep track with the dates, do i ended up, placing the dough inside teh garbage bag…. and to be honest, while mixing the dough, the smell wasn’t good!!

  111. I’m cooking my bread now. My mom was the one who gave it me. I think it’s a very special gift, because its a blessing that has been passed from home to home. This is not something you can not start on your own or buy. It needs to be past from friend/family to friend/family. I enjoyed being a part of this unique gift and today I will give the three doughs to other loved ones to bring the blessing to there home. For those dis-beleivers you probably have not received this wonderful blessing because of your lack of faith. Not everything needs to make sense in life or have a logical reason. Mircales and blessing are alway around if you want to except them.

  112. my friend got the bread last week and told me of it. i have never heard of this bread, i guess she thinks of me as a good person and wishes well for me, if not she wouldn’t of thought of giving me a portion. i will make my bread but know im wondering who to give my portions to. one good thing about it is that i have searched who padre pio is and i think his life was very interesting and it came at a good time in my life i need more faith.

  113. yes. that’s right. it doesnt matter if it’s a fake or not. i agree with that good soul who said something like “what’s important is that there’s a good man out there who wanted ppl to practice sharing.”
the though of the possiblity of the dough to have germs also pased my mind by .. i really say it’s a matter of FAITH. if you dont believe, then dont talk here!!! what’s wrong with you people???
eventhough i lost track of the dates, ill consider this day as my 5th day. it was supposed to be my 6th alreadybut i dont care .. i will continue this. good timing, it’ll be christmas soon.

  114. I got this bread too. I’m in day 5. I’m trying to believe, but having baked bread………..
I did some research and found a bread called Herman bread (a sourdough). Basically the same recipe except less sugar and refridgerated.Hemin-hē-mən is a red-brown to blue-black crystalline salt C34H32N4O4FeCl derived from oxidized heme but usually obtained in a characteristic crystalline form from hemoglobin.
    oxygenated blood bread???????

  115. My mum got this bread today and she doesnt want to do it because she doesnt believe in chain mail. she doesnt want to burden anybody by passing it on. I agree withher but am doubtful. Is it okay to ignore it?

  116. am in tipperary -ireland.got hemin bread & prayer from neighbour.baked it & it like “madeira” cake.all family had some -it LOVELY with ice-cream.not sure about it’s authenticity but it got people together so that ok with me.i don’t ever participate in “chain-letters” but viewed this as being different cause you had to put in the effort with the dough etc.

  117. It is NOT a chain letter because we only bake it ONCE…and we share it with 3 people…we are NOT told that “whetever we ask we get”..we don’t get names of people who won the lottery because they baked it …or died in a horrible accident because they didn’t…Instead we get simple instructions of how to bake bread…in the process we learn to wait…to trust..to follow instructions..to share..think of 3 GOOD people and then ..eat it..In our society now days it’s all about IMMEDIATE GRATIFICATION…it is so much like Padre Pio to be simple…whether the bread comes from the Vatican or not…it’s not important…Mom and I believe it comes from Padre Pio’s inspiration…He put it on some faithful soul to start this…and it has been around for years!! One of my friends baked it in the early 1990’s!!…Mom and I have had a great time baking it ..everyday..we laugh together as we stir the dough…we imagine Padre Pio in our kitchen with us…and you know what??…I believe he is..we went to the Vatican for his beatification…and now he comes to our kitchen…Remember…MIRACLES do not make FAITH happen but FAITH makes miracles happen…It is so much like Padre Pio to have us share the bread of our table with others!!..[smile]

  118. To those who believe that religion is more important than God remember this. Jesus came into this world to show us the way from our worldly beliefs. Jesus himself despised religion because it came between man, and God. Now some think that by chain letters you will reach the Kingdom of Heaven or receive some kind of super blessing, think twice before you destroy your relationships with your friends and more importantly with your family. Chain letters are only a chain of misery and pain and putting an invisible chain around your life that you can’t break mentally and spiritually. In the end it is God that grants your blessings not religion. My name is Jesus and no, I am not God or anywhere near being Godly, but I do pray at night and I have learned that in order for me to walk the road the real JESUS paved for me I must keep my EYES on him and him alone. Don’t end up thinking a bread or letter is going to make things better for you only God can do that and even if you believe in luck think of luck as an extension of his blessings. IN JESUS NAME, PEACE BE WITH YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES.

  119. How does anyone know it’s fake? I did not spend allot of time reading theses posted notes, and although everybody is entitled to there own opinion, this is a great place to start as far as religion goes. To all that seek the mysteries of this bread, I wish you all many blessings.

  120. I am on my second day and can hardly wait to break this bread with my family on the 10th day. I too, like many of your, do not believe in chain mail but do believe this is something I have to do. In reading some of the E-mails, I realize this bread is shared from all over the world. I live in California and have read E-mails from people in Saudi Arabia and I am happy to know I am breaking bread with someone on the other side of the world. I read the E-mail from Elsie in February and it brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful person you are. “Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.”

  121. I received the dough from a dear friend of mine of whom I have known for over 50 years. We have been there for each other all these years.I am a skeptic also but a believer of God, for HE is great. I was brought the dough and was briefly told about it. She told me to read the instructions and not put it in the frig. That was on a Thursday night, I did not read all the instructions that night b/c I got busy caring for my mom which included saying prayers on Day 1 and Day 2 and so on..today is the third day and I mixed the dough for the first time. That I did read for the first time mixing. It does have a scent to it unlike any other, but it has been at room temp for 2 days. I will continue with the instructions, prayers and distribution. However, this receipe does not include eggs, only flour, milk and sugar. After reading all the blogs, I came to the conclusion it does not matter. I will follow instructions as given to me. Also I am doing this alone, nobody is involved, even though I have my elderly mom and husband also. Hope that is acceptable. They, however will be tasting the baked bread. My instructions did include prayers, I read where several just included the dough and passing on instructions. Even though I did not say the prayers on Day 1 nor 2 b/c I did not read them when received, I “made up” by saying the prayers 3 times in one day, hope that is ok..Anyway, blessings to all believers, we all need to have faith and be willing to share all the goodness of the heart. This has been a very interesting site. Thank you..From Texas

  122. Guess it was destiny that I was to stumble upon this site… I recently received the bread. I came on here to find a little more info regarding it… I was looking for positive info, as I never had any doubt of it’s authenticity… And here’s why… In the past few years, Padre Pio (among other Saints) has become a commanding presense in my life.. A while back, I learned that I was baptized on Padre Pio’s Birthday, May 25… Before that I had found out that a very significant meeting of mine on 9/20/05.. is the same day Padre Pio received the Stigmata 9/20/1918
until the Lord healed him 50 years later on the very same day… He passed on 3 days later… Ok, where am I going with this… The first I’d ever heard of Padre Pio was from a family I knew 17 to 21 years ago (Large Catholic Family, youngest of the 11 was one of my employees)… This past Saturday I was at the adoration chapel between 8 & 9 in the morn… As I was leaving, I noticed this woman who had just come in nealing on the floor in the back of the chapel.. She nudged Mary (my friend) and asked her if she had a devotion to Padre Pio. I exited, but caught a glimpse of her face, and thought I recognized her.. I went out side to the street, stopped to exchange words with Mary before leaving, when here the woman comes from the chapel. She’s walking up and as she gets close, I said, I think I know you, then said “Eileen”? and she answered back, “Billy”.. It was the eldest sister of David, my employee from way back when… I had not seen this person (Eileen) for at least 17 years… We chatted a bit, then she past on the bread starter to me… While driving home, I glanced at my 2008 Saint callendar booklet, with Padre Pio’s picture on front…When I returned home,I read the instructions…I counted out the days to come up with my 10th day being the 16th of June.. A few minutes later, I picked up the Padre Pio Card I have sitting next to my bed, and right on the front under his picture, gives the significant dates of his life.. He was cannonized on June 16, 2002… That pretty much clinched it for me… What are the chances of this person I have not seen in 17 years showing up at the adoration chapel while I was there.. It was only my 2nd Saturday in this time slaught.. All my other visits had been random, when ever I could drop by…Not as often as I’d like… I was suppose to receive this bread… No Doubt..
Now the first person who came to my mind, is a woman I know who has been completely turned around by Padre Pio… She didn’t even know who he was when a little over a year ago she touched his image on the TV screen.. Ever since, she believes miracles have been happening through her… Even healings of 2 people she knows.. So believe me folks… It’s no hoax.. Believe, please beleave… If you pray every day, and have faith… God will prove his presense to you!
    Predestination is real…Read Ephesians 1:11
    God Bless you all..
    William 🙂
Can’t wait to share my Holy Bread!

  123. Hello, it’s William again, I came back here just now to read many of the other comments… Has anyone else noticed that this blog began on 12/12/06… Dec 12 is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe… And if that isn’t enough for you, look at the time of my previous post above, 9:23
Padre Pio entered eternal life on 9/23/68.. Sept 23 is his Feast Day… I didn’t plan that…
The Saints are alive and with us always, along with our Guardian Angels…Acknowledge them, and they will help you…
To Jesus T from above comment: Jesus of Nazareth did not despise religion, he despise’s evil men who hide behind it.. And there are many.. There are also many very Holy people within the church whom he loves… It’s not religion, it’s the heart! My guess you are a non-Catholic Christian, with some trouble distinguishing good from evil, evil from good… The Catholic church is not evil. Like many denominations, there is a fair share of dead fig trees among the ranks… Bad apples amongst the good… I can tell you this much, as sure as I know that Jesus is our savior, the only son of God the Father, I’m just as sure that the Saints are still alive… You can not deny their holiness! They all have one thing in common, as with Mary, our Holy Mother… They all lead us to Him, “JESUS” The Lord… 🙂
Finally, your post was on Feb 25, the day (1928)Saint Toribio Romo was shot and killed for his love of Jesus… Look him up.. Read about some the saints, and I bet your heart will be humbled some.
Again, blessings to all, and to all, Good Night 🙂
    William

  124. I have just recieved the bread from a dear friend in Albuquerque NM. Thank you Carmen. My family will enjoy it with its many blessing! The only problem is this. In 10 days, I do not know who to give it to! Pray that the rights people will come along.

  125. I recived this bread was to add to it today the more i taught of it i taugh thow healthy can it be by being passed on so much that is descusting i disposed it reluctingly as i thaught something bad would happen i belive in Padre Pio so i light his candel and said a prayer

  126. Hello everyone. I received this bread dough from my sister in law OVER 10 days ago.
I received the bread with humility because I know she meant only to bless my family and I.
I have ADHD and have trouble remembering to do tasks and I put the glass bowl covered with plastic wrap
in my dining room (which I rarely use). As you can imagine I forgot all about it.
My son reminded me a few days later, but i’ve lost track of what day I’m on, what to do with the dough
and now I feel so bad. I hate when I forget to do things and don’t want to throw it away because she gave it to
me with love. I’m not superstitious and I don’t believe in good or bad luck because Jesus never said anything about it in the Bible.
I put my trust in God alone. God’s word teaches that all blessings come from Him anyway. So like it says in Romans 8:32
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?…
…may God forgive me in Jesus’ name.

  127. My bread is in the oven. The problem I have is it is 8pm when I did this. It is now to late to give this out to my friends. Should I give it to them tomorrow? Do they just start on day 1 or 2,or should I just throw it out?

  128. Anton:
Today 12/28/08 I received the instructions for
Fr. Pio’s bread. A couple of days ago a friend of mine we were speaking about St. Pio. I told her that I had been to Italy to see St. Pio, during the summer. She mention to me about the bread. She did follow all of the instructions for the baking. When the bread was baking she notice that in the middle of the pan it kept bubbling. When is was done a heart was formed in the center of the bread. She took a picture and shared it with me. I told her this was a grace for God. According to her other friends have been passing this receipt & nothing like this has appeared. I was given this receipt today & I will do the same. It is very good to share.

  129. Hi Anton, I’m from Los Banos. I also got one when I was in high school and I don’t have anyone to give it to so I baked everything and the family ate it. hehe!

  130. this bread is nothing but another chain letter so do not get caught with it
It is Fake and stinks your kitchen out i got it but did not make it

  131. During the Second World War, in Italy, bread was being rationed. Padre Pio’s monastery always had a lot of guests and the poor who begged there for food. One day the Friars went to the refectory and realized that the basket only had about two pounds of bread. They prayed and sat down before starting to eat. Padre Pio went into the church, and a while later when he came back he was holding a pile of bread in his hands. The Superior asked Padre Pio: “Where did you get all these loaves of bread?” Padre Pio answered: “A pilgrim at the door gave them to me”. Nobody commented, but everybody thought that only Padre Pio could meet such a pilgrim.
The entire idea behind the story is not good luck superstition or anything of the sort. I would say a angel delivered it.Why? Their is a message here Feed the poor as Our Lord did many times. It matters not what kind of bread its the love that goes into it, and is shared with strangers, loved ones, friends, whoever they may be.

  132. It’s April 2, 2022, and I am here researching the bread my mother and I ate way back in 2007. I was 15 years old at that time, a high schooler with no idea how my Mama got it. Quick story, my Mama got it from someone she did not disclose, and she religiously followed the instructions. We would even pray before she would touch the wooden spoon. On the 10th day, as instructed, we gave away some portions to our neighbors. She made a pancake out of the bread – a very delicious pancake actually. I wish that time that I would be successful one day, and my Mama would be there to witness our success together.

But she died in 2013, just 40 days before my college graduation. I am now a university instructor, a CPA, and a Ph.D. in the making – will probably pursue law after my Ph.D. Remembering that pancake she made, I could not help but wonder what if I had wished for a different wish. Or maybe, I just missed her so much.

Anyway, thanks for this blog from 16 years ago.
