The Blooming of Playa Calatagan

Garden Cabana View of the Playa Calatagan River Pool

Unfortunately, the best beaches in Nasugbu and Calatagan areas are private beaches. In the case of Playa Calatagan, there will be a public beach area and a private pool/ clubhouse area for lot owners. There is no membership fee in this residential resort (which is a new concept) but you need to be a lot owner to use the facilities. Some time in the future, there will be commercial establishments for the public crowd and I can’t wait to share this with you.

For now, the pool area is for private lot owner’s use and their dependents. Just to give you a flavor of how much it would cost to enjoy a day trip in Playa Calatagan:

The Playa Calatagan Beach

Playa Calatagan Menu

The food is decent based on Manila standards but this is the best resto in the Calatagan area. Don’t try the halo-halo though…

Chicken Yakitori (P140+). Chicken Skewers served with Teriyaki Sauce

Chicken BBQ (P180+) Marinated chicken quarters with our special native sweet barbeque sauce. Skewed then grilled into desired doneness.

Beef Steak Pinoy (P160+). Filipino Style fillets served with caramelized onions.

Grilled Suchi Fillets (P170+). Grilled Fillet of Suchi fish drizzled with Lemon cream sauce served with Mango Salsa.

We stayed in the 2nd floor garden cabana. We loved the cool Calatagan summer winds… ang sarap!!!

  3. Hi Anton! Since Playa Calatagan is an exclusive place, can you recommend other beach resorts in Batangas with great accommodations and nice shorelines? Thanks!

  4. Hello Anton. Thanks for your nice blog regarding our project Playa Calatagan. Its nice to know that you are happy about the place.
I just want to correct the impression that the food at Playa Calatagan is by Via Mare. Actually, our food outlet at the beachclub of Playa is being operated by the son of the franchise holder of Via Mare at the Town Center. The chef of our food outlet came from the Fire Lake Grill at Tagaytay.
Again, thanks for your nice Blog.

  5. hi there!!
I am an avid reader of your blog. Thank you for sharing a lot of your experiences on your travels to a lot of people who enjoy to live life as nomads. like me it is a wish to travel the places you’ve been to. and as i was reading along its as if im traveling already. i was also able to share some of the places Ive read in your blog to people who wants something new to go to.
its summer now and my friends and i are planning to have our annual summer outing and we havent been to places up north like pagudpud, la union, pampanga and the like.
May i know some places where we could go there?
hoping to hear from you po.

  6. Hi Anton! Thanks for the reply! We’re considering San Juan too. I just hope we can get accommodations pa. Anyway, I actually have a particular resort in mind, Vista de Madera. Have you heard of it? It’s a resort that supposedly has a cliffside entrance or something. I’m highly curious about it but haven’t been able to find any contact information. Thanks!

  7. Calatagan is the only place where people have to pay going to the beach. Why? Are they so much moneygreedy?

  8. hi anton!! it’s great to know that you’ve been enjoying going to playa! we’ve been going there at least twice a month this past summer! 2 weeks ago we rode the kayaks and diego loved it. i think it’s 400/hr. for the big one. we also hired a local banca for 600/hr(right beside playa) for a tour around calatagan. it was a great experience for we were able to view the other resorts, the nice beach houses nearby and the calatagan lighthouse. playa now has beach-side stalls that sell food and accessories. services such as henna tattoos, hair-braiding etc, are now available. i can’t wait till they build the hotel! btw, unlike you, joey liked the halo-halo in the restaurant. hahaha! personally, it was the most lifeless halo-halo i’ve ever tasted…

  9. ai exclusive for members lang pala ang calatagan. tsk!
hi anton! dountou have any recommendation for aprivate pool in laguna or batangas? i know your an expert in discovering new and wonderful places!
God bless you anf your family.

  12. my friends and i are looking for a hotel to stay…is playa calatagan open for public? can u suggest any hotels that are affordable and nice to stay… we only have a budget of 3000 each.. we’re a group of 5-8 persons..i’ll wait for your response.. thnk you..

  13. mighty toddler aidan’s posing is making me want to just cuddled-squeezed and kissed him all over why is this kid is just so ADORABLE i believed his baby SPA WORLD experiences help develop this so cute charming adorable cuddly mighty baby anyway this playa calatagan look inviting but to make a difference from other resorts-to outstand the rest of places similar to this they have to put a lot of assorted colors ng bonggavillas na halaman yung mga climbing kinds at dama de noche para sa gabi ay mabango ang hangin bonggavillas na flowers in yellow-orange-pinks-reds-whites-lilac etc etc. will invite more visitors colors are needed to neutralized all too native plain sometimes dull boring appearances if neutralizer colors are not around to blend in just to create diversities yet still tropical-native-local in identity so aidan show us again if those colors of flowers are there next time you visit thank you

  14. am sorry but i came from there just this afternoon…after getting lost unexpectedly…going towards playa in lian batangas…we found playa calatagan finally by 12nn…in the first place someone invited us and said it was a birthday celebration:) then getting there..we had the feeling it wasn’t…anyway, we were told the stubs for the food ran out and we were escorted to the dining area where our lunch food was served by 3pm! and the food…..was horrible!!spoons and forks came after 30 mins more and worse….they even took our orders with drinks that never came!!!sorry but i think if it would function as a resort…it would be an awfull resort..but i do have to commend the architecture and the very nice scenery.but having been deceived and treated this way like we were beggars for their open house food( i really wish there was a fast food nearby)i’ll have to get over it first before i can recomment the properties:)
oh and i forgot….we took shade in one pool cabana and was told they were for rent…when our so called bday celebrant arranged for our food..we were told that not all the food would be free..so we would be charged for the other plates..since we were five only 3 would be free..hahah…oh boy!! and the service was terrible..like the staff didn’t know a thing about restaurant service!!…oh i’m so sorry but i’m sooo hating this place right now!! its not like we can’t pay for good food. but isnt good food and good servic a must for a resort?

  15. i agree with those who had ‘REALLY’bad ‘service’ experiences in the philippines we are calling the attentions of all lgu’s local govt.representatives all union leaders to PLEASE: TRAINED WELL ALL ‘SERVICE’ EMPLOYEES THOSE IN FOOD-RETAILS-HOTELS IN PARTICULAR ETC….TELL ALL SEVICE EMPLOYEES TO WATCH- IMPLEMENT ‘GOOD MANNERS AND RIGHT CONDUCT’ AT ALL TIMES….ALWAYS GREET CUSTOMERS WITH HELLO PLEASE THANK YOU AND GOODBYE….MOST IMPORTANT TO SMILE….EVEN IF CUSTOMERS ARE UNHAPPY WITH THEM….WHY? COZ MOST CUSTOMERS UNCOMFORTABLY-INCONVENIENTLY TRAVELED THOUSANDS OF MILES JUST TO VISIT A COUNTRY AWAY FROM HOME SPENDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS THEIR YEARS OF SALARIES-FAMILY INCOMES AND WHAT? JUST TO BE RIPPED OFF ABUSED NEGLECTED SPENT UNPLEASANT MOMENTS WITH RUDE UNEDUCATED UNAPPREACIATIVE UNTRAINED COMBATIVE WAITRESSES-WAITERS OR SALES CLERKS UNDER VALUED THEIR MONEY….HELLO!!!! WHY ARE YOU GROUP PROTESTING IN STREETS FOR HIGHER SALARIES AND BETTER GOVERNMENT SERVICES WHEN YOU CITIZENS{based on some experiences we heard-read about}YOURSELF{those who misbehave only!} ARE like this INCOMPETENT UNAPPREACIATIVE UNDESERVING…..WHY WISH WANTING TO HAVE A RICH PROSPEROUS BETTER tourism industry in PHILIPPINES IF YOUR OWN CITIZENS CANNOT PROVIDE good BUSINESSES TOURISM A BETTER THAN THIS TRAVELLING-VISITING SEVICE EXPERIENCES….crab mentality again kicks in instead of appreciating the dollars-pesos spent to help your economy this is the ATTITUDE you give tourism back that is bad bad one bad sevice system so please re group and aske employees to show at least a decent appreciations to customers at all times so they are happy to come back and spent money again nOT ripped off oh boy lol….

  16. in defense of other resorts….i don’t agree that they are all are this bad.. ive gone to many other resorts and have been frequenting boracay resorts as well and have not experiened anything close to what i experienced yesterday…we do have good schools focused on restaurant service and there are numerous restaurants boasting of good service and great food..and i believe anton has mentioned a lot of them although this particular resort struck my nerve in such a very very horrible way…now..i am a local here and have a lot of good resorts to rave about but honestly i do believe if a resort cannot keep up with the importance of good food and great service then i guess good architecture and the great scenery just can’t be enough to boost the profitability of an honestly great location:)and filipino hospitality is the best …except for this one place…..ugh!!!!so sorry but i keep going back to that awful experience!!!

  17. i…..love…..calatagan…..my…..family…..and…..i…..have…..always…..gone….. there…..for…..summer…..vacations…..and…..any…..other…..vacation…..when…. we….. have…..any…..free…..time….. the….sand…..here…..is…..not…..the…..best….. but….. there…..is…..a …..wonderful….. lighthouse…..down…..at…..the…..end…..where…..you …..can…..see …..the…..sunset…..it…..brings….. back…..so…..many…..nostalgic…..memories…..so…..fantastic…..it’s…..really…..the best…..

  18. i am from batangas and have been exposed to calatagan since i was a since…i beliewve this place has a lot to offer..the place is soo nice and very relaxing but i would not in all terms patronize deceitful open house real estate schemes and poor resto service;)i just wish they would fix up their act and if they can’t serve lots of people in this place all at once during events…might as well have small size special events…di pa nakakhiya;)

  19. grammar police i guess i got caught up in your name….i meant i have been exposed since i was 6.and i believe……yadayadaayada…

  20. to avoid bad open real state scheme PLEASE check the CREDIBILITY of the establishments-businesses thru either department of tourism local chamber of commerce or any phils. govt. trade police department it’s just one valid phone call or visit coz better safe than sorry if the info is even true or not….philippine government should ‘tighten’ ‘any false representations’if money-lives is at stake in particular coz if buyers are ripped that is one long lost customers there ALONE….good luck philippines lol!

  21. Hi Anton, my fiancee and I wanted sana sa Calatagan to hold our prenup pictorial. I know the place is exclusive but do you think they would allow us to have a prenup and how much do you think would it cost?
Do you know who to contact to?
