Sala Sunday Jazz Brunch

Kir Royal, Champagne with Cassis

I never really love champagne until last Sunday’s Jazz Brunch @ Sala in Malate. Sala is the last remaining good restaurant in Malate and it will soon transfer to Greenbelt 5. I love Sunday brunch. M Cafe, Lumiere and Sala are competing for this Sunday brunch crowd composed of mostly expats in Manila. The Sunday Brunch menu is all about Eggs… and Bubbles. You can opt to have an unlimited champagne bubbles with two courses for P1088+ (P1197 net) or just the brunch at P620+ without the fizz. We had to go for the Drink all you can Champagne and the Egg breakfast dish with dessert. You can order the champagne on its own or with cassis, peach juice or orange juice.

It was a lazy Sunday brunch with blogger friends with the Philippine Blog Awards night rants and raves as the appetizer. Come to think of it, I can’t remember now how many glasses of champagne I drank. All I know was after 3 glasses, I started to lose count and started laughing my heart’s out during the course of the conversation. With the right company, the P1,200 price tag might not be that much and as long as you start drinking at 11am to maximize the last call for champagne at 2.30pm. Finally, I got introduced to Kir Royal and I love this champagne with a touch of sweetness from the blood-red, sweet, blackcurrant-flavored liqueur called Creme de Cassis.

Baked with Spinach, Ham and Parmesan with a side of Hot Toast — rather Florentine!

I actually made a mistake of ordering the Baked eggs. I should have ordered the 3 egg Omelette with the yummy truffle oil. Here are the other choices for breakfast:

Scrambled with Smoked Salmon, Dill and Hot Buttery Ciabatta
Poached till just set and topped with prosciutto and hollandaise and finished under the drill in the style of benedict.
3 Egg Omelette very mushroomy laced with white truffle oil, parmesan and hollandaise on top of hot toast.
Fried. Sala’s Sunday fry up — English bangers, crispy bacon, sauteed mushrooms, tomatoes, hash and two fried eggs.
The Sandwich (not an egg in sight!) garlicky portabella mushrooms, goat’s cheese, rocket and mustard on buttery toast bread ciabata.

Rhubarb and Strawberry Crumble. The puddings were decent and I’m glad I ordered this.

Other Puddings Options.
Raspberry and white chocolate custard trifle.
A hot buttery croissant, vanilla seed ice cream and chocolate sauce
Banana Pancakes with our vanilla seed ice cream and caramel sauce.

Aidan just loves dogs and he even kissed Tessa’s dog just to prove it!

Rama is Tisay but tagalista and she is so cute in person! If you haven’t read Rama’s blog, check it out: www.pochanginamo.blogspot.com. Too bad they are now relocating to Canada and we will miss you guys!

Surpringly, Sala was almost full last Sunday and we heard that this was the last one in Malate. Can you believe that we ended at 4pm drunk from the Kir and all the champagne? It was a good lazy sunday afternoon indeed…

  1. Pictures only? Where’s the text? Haha, I’m kidding. This brings back memories of when Malate was the place to be seen. Haven’t thought of Sala for a while. Thanks for the reminder.

  2. It was nice to see you again, Anton. What a lovely, lazy, long lunch, fueled by endless glasses of champagne…YUM!

  3. I had plans to go to the gym and study that afternoon, but after all that champagne I only had enough energy to drive myself home and veg out in front of the TV. It was nice to see you again! =)

  4. It was a lovely brunch with great conversation, and the cutest kids and dog alive. Hope Rachelle didn’t mind Aidan holding the dog.
