(The New 7 Wonders of the World)
Finally the new 7 wonders have been announced yesterday July 7, 2007. I have been to the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, Statue of Liberty in US, Stonehenge in UK, and Sydney Opera House, Australia. After the announcement, I was disappointed that the Pyramids, the last surviving ancient wonder, was not included in the list. I’m glad that there are two sites which are close to home, The Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal in India. Now is the best time to go to Beijing which has a lot of travel promotions before the Olympic games. So after 7/7/07, I haven’t been to any of the new 7 Wonders of the World.
So what’s next? New7Wonders launches the nominations for the New7Wonders of Nature — The Natural 7 Wonders of the World.

the pyramids were designated an honorary member of the new 7 wonders, meaning that they were removed from the list of wonders people could vote for.

Let’s nominate Taal Volcano for the New7Wonders of Nature!!!!
Yes, I’ve climbed the Great Wall! My husband and I went to the Mutianyu Section of the Great Wall. Many people actually say that this section is nicer than the Badaling Section and it’s also less touristy. Like in Badaling, there’s also a cable car for those physically-challenged!
Go to Beijing during Autumn when it’s less dusty and no chance for a sandstorm to occur.
I’ve been to the Great Wall (5 times, 3 sections), and to one of the finalists – Neuchswanstein in Germany.
I agree with the previous poster about not going to Badaling – too many tourists. Unfortunately even Mutianyu is now overrun. For gorgeous views and a hearty hike, go out towards Jinshanling or Simatai. Or better yet, head to the last section of the wall in Jilin province to see the wall as it crumbles into the sea.
How about nominating the Chocolate Hills? Or as tantalizing suggested, the Taal Volcano? Let’s start a campaign. I’m sure Filipinos can make a dent in this poll.
UNESCO disowned, denied participation, distanced itself from this list which many consider a commercial gimmick. Even if we nominate the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River, the longest underground river in the world; or the Tubbataha Reef, the second largest reef in the world after the Great Barrier Reef; or Taal Volcano; or the Chocolate Hills; in the end, it’s the organizers who will pick the finalists from which the public will select their choices.
I only remember voting for Great Wall and for Machu Pichu. I am not sure if I chose Petra and Taj as well so consider me 2 out of 7. I am just glad that Great Wall got in – for the longest time, I thought it was one of the Seven Wonders already (of the Modern World – alam ko meron to sa history class e :O)
To be in the list it has to be man-made. You can’t nominate Taal,Chocolate hills or Tubbataha reef. But I do agree with those people who think the new list is such non-sense. Its a popularity vote, period. Taj Mahal and Great Wall is shoe in because of India’s and China’s population. The voting is biased. To be eligible to vote IMHO, you have to have seen all the nominated sites. And not a nationality of the countries being represented.
Deck, if you were reading Anton’s post, the nominations now are for natural sites. They already announced the winners for man-made.

Btw, we went to San Pablo this weekend. Kusina Salud has evolved from your photos, and our daughter had her first taste of coffee (which as it turns out to be a similar experience with her dad). Carlito was a most gracious host, as you described him. He is having a show in Sm Megamall in September.

Of all the new 7 wonders, I’ve only been to the Colliseum (there are so many other more deserving places than this for the top 7) and will be seeing the Great Wall this Nov. I voted for Machu Pichu, though I’ve never been, that and Petra are high up on my list of places to see before I die! 🙂
I got 6 out of 7…Ankor Wat of Cambodia was the other wonder I voted for that did not make it…Unfortunately, I haven’t been to any one of these wonders…in fact, I haven’t been to any of those nominated.
Je — when Anton said his score is 0 out of 7, he was referring to the places he visited — not how many he voted that made it to the list.
I guess, since the Giza pyramids are the only surviving wonder of the ancient world, it deserves a place of honor it truly deserves. And maybe call the 7 new ones as the 7 wonders of the NEW world, to distinguish it from the “wonders of the ancient world”.
With the construction of a spa in Taal volcano, can still call it “a natural wonder”?
you know…i don’t get it why the world only gets to choose seven wonders. i mean…hello?!? seven is such a small number. hahahahaha
man, i would give anything (except my body and soul) just to visit those seven places and all the other candidates. 🙂

almost made it to Taj Mahal when I was in India (mumbai) but I didn’t pursue it due to the time, cost and distance. Travel in India is way too expensive.
The great wall is another one on my radar screen but maybe in the long term
I was planning to visit the Redeemer site in Rio also when there was a plan to send me to Brazil in 2004. Didn’t push through 🙁

It is good to know though that the final list above was voted by the world. What I’m really aiming for is to complete all the 14 new 7 wonders finalist. I’m using the 14 as my must see places before I die.

so how does one wonder fall from being that to no longer being on the 7 wonders list? does it make visiting one of these sites less significant if it’s not on the list? just a thought 🙂
I’d love to visit all 7 but for now I’m just eyeing the great wall to run the Great Wall marathon!
