Surprising your Kids Who Love Planes and Helicopters

PAF Museum-25

We love to surprise Aidan these days. I would bring home surprise pasalubongs (cupcakes…) , or treat him to surprise restaurants (Haagen Dazs, Kozui…) or (our favorite) bring him to surprise places he would enjoy (Global Fun Carnival, etc.). He loves airplanes and helicopters, and we bought him helicopter / airplane toys to play with. Occasionally, we would go sunset airplane watching at the Heritage Park: Sunset Air Plane Watching | Heritage Park Sunset Airplane Watching.

The ultimate surprise for any kid who loves Airplanes / Helicopters is to bring him in close encounter with the real thing! Of course, you need to set it up as a surprise and bring him to the Aerospace Museum of the Philippine Air Force in Villamor Air Base!

PAF Museum-22

The world class Aerospace Museum opened its doors on the 60th founding anniversary of the Philippine Air Force last June 29, 2007. It was a long awaited opening after 10 years of planning, design and construction. The first floor has interactive displays of modern aerospace science. The second floor houses the Air Force heritage and the history of Aviation in the Philippines. The third floor has a view deck to see excellent views of the air base and its surroundings. Our favorite part of the museum is the display of the 18 kinds of military aircraft permanently towed in the museum for public viewing! The museum is located in the intersection of Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 and Villamor air base complex. For P20 per person, you can enjoy this museum with your kids! They are open on weekdays and halfday on Saturdays.

1. Touch one of the modern planes on display in the first floor of the museum. Aidan got scared at first because the plane lit up when you go near it.

2. Ride and see what’s inside an actual helicopter. I can see the surprised happiness in Aidan’s face when he climbed into the helicopter.

  1. Anton, I have to thank you for writing about all these cool places to take kids, like this aerospace museum, the Global Fun Carnival, and the Science Center. We’re excited to take my pamangkins to these places, as well as the soon-to-open Manila Ocean Park. I love all these great, educational, fun destinations they’ve been creating for children like US! 😉

  2. Hello Anton, thanks for the info on the aerospace museum, will definitely take my son there soon. Have you tried taking aidan to the La Mesa Eco Park?? love to hear your experience on this.

  3. Would appreciate anyone with a 1/72 scale SIAI Marchetti SF 260. Our class is completing a diorama of all the aircraft in the outdoor aircraft display and this is the only model we are missing out of 18.
All other 17 models were painstakingly assembled, handcrafted and meticulously and authentically hand painted by Brig. Gen. Edgar Calvo (Ret.).
When completed, the diorama will be donated to the museum with the proper acknowledgement of all the donors.
    Thank you

  9. Pardon my ignorance in this area, but how exactly do I get there? Coming from Roxas Blvd, you turn left as going to the airport? Then what? Thank you!

  10. ….i am agaisnt any form of violences including verbal maybe reason why i prefer to laugh if things doesnt make sense to me….so anything about wars gives me chilling effects….except if it is museum…it is good if children or anyone see how ‘real’ things{inoperateable} really look like{remove ignorances}so they are not overwhelmed just in case they might come across operateable ones in the future….

  11. hey the air-conditioned aircraft that you were mentioning was the air force one of Marcos which means that it is the presidential plane of Marcos when he was still alive. I once got there but the modern museum was still under construction. … the Philippine Air Force constructed that museum because they have realized that all of their planes were getting tilted during flight. Airbases aren’t needed nowadays instead, museums because the airplanes of PAF are good only for display because all of them could never fly. gosh…. They have transferred all of the guns in that new museum eh?

  18. The sights of the Aerospace Museum are truly spectacles to behold. It has long been a wish of mine though that the government improve our aviation machines. Most of what we have are obsolete and date back to World War 2.

  19. Hi, I’m Ptr. Sander Laqueo, Executive Director of Still Waters Kid’s Home. We are a Child Caring Agency (Orphanage) catering disadvantage children and we are located here in Majayjay, province of Laguna. We are now looking for a good venue for an Educational field trip for our kids. I just wanted to ask how can we avail tickets, how much and or perhaps there is something you can offer us like promos that we can avail for these kids in our care. Your responds will be appreciated and will glad to visit these amazing Museum for the benefits of these children.
