1. Kayangan Lake – one of the top 100 awesome places to go to in the Philippines!
The photo above is the most photographed scene that represents Coron in the travel magazines. This scene is halfway up the mountain trail leading to the cleanest lake in the Philippines. Swimming in the cleanest fresh water lake (with a bit of salt water) in the Philippines is an experience that every Filipino should have. The entire area is perfect for taking portrait shots with limestone cliffs in the background and clean lake in the middleground.
2. Twin Lagoons – A dare awaits the brave tourist
These twin lagoons are separated by limestone cliffs with a small underwater tunnel where a brave tourist could swim underneath. It is dangerous which adds to the appeal and challenge to tourist who dare to go to both lagoons. You need to take a deep breath and do a deep swim to avoid the jagged edges of the limestone cliffs. I tried to swim underneath but I came out with a deep wound on my left big toe. Lesson learned the *ouch* way.
3. Siete Picados – 7 Islands Snorkeling area.
Most of the corals around Coron are dead except for the Siete Picados area. This spot is perfect for Snorkeling without being disappointed with the scene the underwater scene that you will see.
4. Maquinit Hot Springs and its therapeutic properties.
Don’t miss on the therapeutic properties of this natural hot spring in Coron. Don ‘t be discouraged with its super hot temperature. You will be rewarded after with a revitalizing feeling after dipping in this hot springs for a few minutes.
5. Shipwreck Diving in Coron
Coron became famous because of its dive spots and one of these days, I will take up diving and underwater photography. I’m not an expert on the Dive areas in Coron, would you know which are the awesome dive spots?
6. Coron Town and Public Market — Fast disappearing rustic beauty of Coron
Coron is fast losing its rustic charm because it attracted investments to develop this little town. Boracay companies are starting to build massive hotels in the town to attract more tourists. Don’t miss to just walk around the town, buy danggit and roasted cashew nuts in the public market. You should also see why Palawan is the cleanest city where people pocket their cigarette butts and you will see people picking up the trash on a frequent basis.
This is my first time in Coron and I heard stories of people staying with homestays in the town just to enjoy its beauty. Are you OK with the development happening in Coron?
7. Cashew Nuts Factory — Appreciate how the cashew nuts are processed
We decided to buy our Roasted Cashew Nuts and the Cashew Nuts Panutcha from one of the Cashew Nuts factory in the town. You can see how they prepare and process the cashew. Our favorite pasalubong from Coron is the Cashew Nuts Panutcha which is a sweet brittle made of cashew nuts and heavy brown molasses. Yummy!
8. A Bonding Moment with Friends.
The Coron boat tour is a perfect bonding moment with friends. I wanted to go back with Rache, Aidan and our friends. I’m glad that I was with the company of cool people during the Wig Tysmans travel photography workshop.

Coron is such a beautiful place! I wish it doesn’t become commercialized like Boracay. They’re actually filming Dyesebel there. The developers of Waterfront is building a hotel nearby. We call the cashew panutcha Bandi. 🙂

Anton, lovely pics. I remembered Coron so well. Of all my years diving, only in Coron ako natusok ng Sea Urchin. Dun sa just about the entrance of the twin lagoon (this is the one that has a very small entrance and an amazing tiny submerged land smack in the middle ba?) And the Maquinit, after a couple of hours in the rain and stranded in our bangka somewhere in the middle of Coron, it was like a haven. hehehe Afterwards we trekked up Mt. Tapyas in our wet clothes. and went home sa superferry na may bomb threat. saya di ba, kaya I’ll never forget Coron.
Coron is soo amazing =) hope I can go back.

….just like how an american priest stationed in europe described this place to me….a water nature paradise to live to retire later lol….father….if youre retired and having fun there let me know a postcard perhaps so my grandchildren has you to visit later ohhh and me too lol!….tell the local govt. to stop political bickerings on who’s side-party palawan new international airport will be built from tell them just do it lol! naku lagot na naman ako nito lol….

i have the same shot of the kayangan from atop (but of course of poorer composition) but come on?! with beauty such as this, it needs not a good photographer to capture the beauty it beholds, ayt? and oh? leonardo de caprio’s the beach flick shot in phuket where almost half of the world dropped jaw?? this place can easily topple it down. guaranteed! 🙂

Wonderful pics! I only just rediscovered your site recently, for some reason it got deleted from my bookmarks page. I especially love the Best of OAP because it will help me plan my trips to the Philippines better. I think what you are doing is wonderful! Maybe you can convince the Asian Food Network to feature our regional cooking in a unique food and travel show, maybe you and Carlos Celdran could co-host haha, I enjoyed my Intramuros walk with him last Christmas. I’m frustrated because they show China, Singapore and all the other “celebrity” chefs from the Western world but I think there’s a place for the Philippines as well. We’ve got exciting food, the best beaches and countryside –they just need to be featured in a unique format. What do you think?

I went to Coron last December and I can’t wait to plan my next trip back. I was only able to snorkle around one of the wrecks so 7 out of 8 is not bad after all. Btw, a swim in the Barracuda Lake is awesome too…as well as walking around Culion and a visit to its museum/infirmary is knowledge enriching.

Coron’s a beautiful place! 😀 We’ve been going there during summer for about 6 years now! Haha 😀 I think a good diving spot is Barracuda Lake? 🙂
coron’s a great place! for diving, you can visit http://www.ddivers.com as this is the resort we stayed in. the owner who is Gunther is also the one who discovered the different wrecks. came from there just a few weeks back and its my first time to go shipwreck diving. its great!

When I went inside Twin Lagoon, the tide was actually low – so we didn’t actually need to take a deep breath and swim underwater to get to the other lagoon. I believe it was around 5pm.
