Healthy Kitchen, Serendra

Update 4/17/12: This restaurant is now closed and replaced by Chuck’s Deli.

The newest kid on the Serendra block is the Healthy Kitchen restaurant in between Cafe Via Mare and Guava. Most restaurants in this Serendra driveway area facing Market Market are struggling and they only survive because of the weekend crowd. Healthy Kitchen’s formula for success is providing yummy healthy food + nice homy ambiance + FREE wifi. They have an extensive selection of salad, innovative healthy appetizers, signature brown rice toppings, healthy burgers and satisfying whole wheat pasta assortment. If you love tofu, they serve Tofu Sisig, Tofu Steak Salad or Tofu Adobo Brown Rice. The only downside with Healthy Kitchen is that the main dishes cost around P200-P300.

I love the entire concept of Healthy Kitchen including the FREE wifi! We sincerely hope that more people will patronize Healthy Kitchen.

Lory Petry-Tydingco owns the successful chain of Brown Bag restaurants in Guam. She first opened Brown Bag in Eastwood but it was not successful because the term Brown Bag is an American concept that was lost in translation in Manila. She opened Healthy Kitchen less than a few weeks ago in Serendra. You would often see Lory in the restaurant. She would always strike up a conversation after you finish your meal to get feedback and suggestions.

Edamame Pate (P130). A flavorful pate made primarily with soy bean pods. Served with red and blue corn tortilla chips.

Replace your creamy dips with this soy beans pate. They have a way of making ordinary healthy food like this taste and look great. It was surprisingly small and how I wish that they could add more chips into the serving.

Lory’s Pizza (P250). Lory created this pizza for herself one day and everyone started ordering it and calling it Lory’s Pizza. Made with turkey bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes in an alfredo sauce and topped with organic fresh mozzarella. Really good!

We fell in love with Lory’s whole wheat pizza and it was served in thin crispy crust. The turkey bacon was the key factor in providing the texture and yummy taste to this pizza.

I’m not sure if the servings in Healthy Kitchen are intentionally small so that you don’t over-eat or it is small because the healthy ingredients used are expensive.

Salmon Blueberry Brown Rice (P320). Salmon, assorted veggies, blueberry raisins fried into organic brown rice.

This is one of their brown rice best sellers. I liked the different layers of taste because of the different complimentary ingredients. I also liked the orange slices that were included in the meal. If you are on a budget, try the Tofu Adobo Brown Rice for only P165.

  1. hey anton!
i have just one question, do you take your shots with a tripod?? sorry, it’s kinda stupid but i just really want to know…:)

  2. I love the kitcshy look/feel of it…and the pizza really looks good…talk about being smothered in cheese…now if we only had smell-a-vision…hehehe!

  3. @Lence – as much as I want to use a tripod, I don’t. I follow a technique to reduce the shake.
@Pilar – The pizza is really good and healthy.

  4. I’d love to try this out but the price is holding me back. Plus, the portions look really small for a family to share. Sayang!

  5. Waaa…sayang. We were like circling round/round Serendra last night trying to figure out where to eat. We end up with Tatami w/c we hope will close down ASAP. Hahaha…

  6. Interesting! I’ve been seeing this resto and was wondering what’s on their menu. Thanks for the heads up 🙂 I wanna try the wraps/ sandwiches and brown rice.
BTW, Anton, saw you this afternoon in an episode in QTV’s “Ang Pinaka”, too bad wasn’t able to watch the entire show.

  7. a friend and i tried eating here a couple of days after they officially opened. we had the salmon blueberry brown rice which was really good and tasty. we also tried the eggplant caviar which held its own in the taste department. but whatever happens, don’t have the dessert. it almost ruined the entire meal for us. we had the truffle cake that already had molds developing from being in the fridge too long. they were apologetic and were quick to replace it with a cheesecake, however, it was the driest cheesecake i’ve ever had. it was too bad for the restaurant, as we did have a very good meal – before their disastrous desserts.

  8. I wonder if the red and blue corn tortilla chips were made with natural colors? Otherwise, where’s the sense of promoting healthy food items in the resto. ‘just curious, based on experience I can hardly see vibrant shades produced by natural colors when used in food.

  9. wow, that pizza looks scrumptious! its a pity i don’t like going to serendra. sana Healthy Kitchen has a branch within the makati commercial complex…
and boy, anton, you really get around, do you? thanks for being an interesting foodie guide around the metropolis! keep on blogging, and don’t mind the losers (grouches) by the wayside, haha! as my friend Rita puts it, LOVE THE LIFE YOU HAVE, and SPREAD YOUR JOY, buddy!

  10. sherra,
purple and red- colored tortilla chips (i’m assuming here that they’re similar to the kind that i always have ) are made from purple yam and sweet potato which is a much healthier alternative to potatoes.

  11. We ate at Healthy Kitchen yesterday for lunch. Staff very friendly and attentive. Fab looking menu — we tried the Monsignor Oops Salad (pesto chicken, mango, blueberry vinagrette). Very good, nice citrus taste. Salmon burger wrap — one of the best tasting tortillas, great fresh greens. And finally Lory’s pizza – great organic cheese. fresh brewed ice tea, not full of sugar like most in this country.
We really liked all the food we tried. The disappointing part are the portions — just too small to justify the higher prices. We’ll go back, maybe they will adjust a little. They are still in soft opening mode, so give the kitchen a little time.

  12. i always love the things that you write here.. i learn a lot from your blog. i just have a question though, which restos do you think will cater to my dad being a vegetarian – it’s actually for his health. he just eats the plain vegetables and fruits, no rice, no dairy products, nothing “not-fresh.” thanks a lot =)

  13. I ate here last week for lunch with my husband. I really liked the restaurants ambiance and interior and the staff was very attentive as well. But for the main part, the food was pretty disappointing. We ordered tabbouleh salad, tofu sisig, and lorys pizza. The pizza and sisig were just okay and the salad was not very good. Not to mention the super TINY servings for the high prices. Definately not going back.

  14. Argh. My pet peeve for “unavailable” items in the menu especially if this is the sole reason why you are there. We are all excited to try the wrap (tomato) but nope, it’s just not available. And why put sprouts on the wrap? We just don’t feel it right. Bummer!
However, I pretty like my Vegan Alfredo. Not bad although a bit strange coz it’s sweet. My friend’s Chicken Adobo Pasta was pretty okay too – adobo nga sya! 😛
I wouldn’t mind going back and sana no more “unavailable” tag to me >.< If I would have other choices, I might re-consider. Pero sya lang ang alam ko "healthy" eating (besides Greens na super bagal naman ng service w/c I really hate)

  15. It is much harder to replace and should stop working their way under the sink and around the supply lines and led to mounting nuts which the valve in place.
Tools such as basin wrench can make work easier, but it will be much easier to remove the sink. All equipment must ensure that, if they expected to serve for long time and a kitchen faucet is no exception.
