Caffe Murano and Art Shoppe

Here is an interesting combination — a Murano Glass Art Shop with a Cafe / Gelateria. This is Greenbelt 5’s version of an Art Cafe in the heart of Makati. It is located at the corner of Greenbelt 5, at the foot of Ayala Museum near Lusso. I heard the place is run by Chef Massimo, an Italian Glass Artist himself. (Can you help confirm this?)

Murano Glass Art is a product of the island of Murano, off the coast of Venice in Italy. The glass art is created with the lampworking technique, where a gas-fueled torch is used to melt clear or colored glass. The glass itself is made from silica, which becomes liquid at high temperatures. When it becomes liquid, the glass maker shapes it before it hardens completely. Here are some examples of Murano art in Flickr.

The place serves one of the best gelato in Manila — Angelati Italia. This is a good place to have dessert and appreciate the collection of Murano Glass Art pieces for sale.

Now there are two places to get your Gelato cravings in Greenbelt — one is in Chef Maurizio’s Gelatone in Greenbelt 3 and Caffe Murano in Greenbelt 5.

Mascarpone Gelato (P100/scoop). Amici’s best gelato flavor is Hazelnut. Angelati’s best gelato flavor is Mascarpone.

The pricing of the gelato is a bit on the high side. You have to choose your flavor carefully because some of the flavors are not as tasty as you expect them to be. You can have a free taste of all the flavors and the server won’t frown on you for doing so. (I honestly think that it is included in the pricing of the gelato. 🙂

There is a small bakeshop where you can order cakes, pastries and pasta.

Liyora had a merienda birthday celebration and the Chef surprised her with a complimentary plate of Bruschetta. How nice! 🙂

We ordered the lasagna. I don’t like the taste of microwaved lasagna.

Happy 7th Birthday, Liyora!

Caffe Murano has an al fresco dining area just right outside the Greenbelt 5 entrance, complete with a bar setup, a projection wall TV, and live performances on weekends.

  1. Congratulations for being featured in Rogue magazine with seven other food bloggers! I just wonder what Katrina labeled you? Again, big congratulations!

  2. Interesting. I think most people would go there more for the art than the gelato/food. :p I’ll be passing by here next time, thanks for the share!
