Mira Angeles Dips and Dressings

ULTIMATE TASTE TEST DISCOVERIES SERIES

After the 4.6 rating of Dulcelin Gourmet in the Ultimate Taste Test, Mira Angeles Dips and Dressings was a distant second at 3.7 out of 5.0. One taste tester commented, “I think the taste is subtle, maybe because everything is homemade… price is reasonable. It’s good, hindi addicting.

Personally, I like the dense Herbed Cream Cheese balanced with the taste of Sundried tomatoes. Try the homemade Cheese Pimiento for a nostalgic trip to your childhood days. For a different kind of salad dressing, try Mira’s Strawberry Vinaigrette, which most people commented on as healthy and yummy.

I think the general sentiment of the taste test group was: this is Yet Another Dips and Dressing Player in the market. To take the brand even further, I believe creating more combinations of unique dips and dressings would set it apart from its competitors.

The Story of Mira Angeles Dips & Dressings

by Mira Angeles

I started my interest in cooking when I was 8 years old. While the
other kids would watch Saturday Fun Machine, I would be caught glued to
Cooking it up with Nora Daza with my Mom. From then on, I started
cooking based on recipes that were demonstrated on TV or by using my
mom’s cookbooks.

I’ve always wanted to be a Chef but, during that time, “di pa talaga
uso” ang chef and most chefs were male. So I then pursued another love
and went to UP for Fine Arts but majoring in Visual Communication. I
stopped cooking for awhile until I became a Producer in ABS-CBN
Interactive’s – Pinoy Central for the Dining, Nightlife and Events
sections. This is where I met my mentors Micky Fenix and Myrna
Segismundo. The two women would open me to the world of food. So I
started cooking again for small groups (mostly my sister’s friends)
until they told me I should sell or do something with food. So by 2000,
I concocted Herbed Butter and my mom’s Cheese Pimiento. Then other
flavors started to come in. My clients were mostly family and friends, and the orders just came during Christmas. By 2005, after a trip to
Australia, I went to a culinary short course class in ISCAHM. It was a
3-month Fundamentals of Cooking course. Before it ended, I was ready to
tender my resignation in ABS. From then on, it was a decision to make it
in the food scene. In 2006, my brother, a couple of friends and I
opened Cow King Steak Sizzles in Sct. Ybardolaza, a small steak place
in QC.

Last year, people started to notice the dips. I had a small taste-testing in Cow King after being written about in ClicktheCity. From the
usual 50 or 100 orders (again, mostly my sister’s orders), I finally got
orders from outsiders. This was when I came out with the Herbed Cream
Cheese with Sundried tomatoes. Originally, I called this dip Boursin but since Boursin is registered as a trademark, I had to change it. I
guess the story does not end here. 🙂 My brother decided to add the dips
to the menu in Cow King. Soon we’ll be adding Steakwiches to the menu, one of which has the Herbed Cream Cheese with Sundried tomatoes, while
another sandwich would have Honey Mustard.
