Xanadu is a musical comedy with a book by Douglas Carter Beane, music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, based on the 1980 cult classic film of the same name which was, in turn, inspired by the 1947 Rita Hayworth film Down to Earth. The title is a reference to the poem, Kubla Khan, or A Vision in a Dream. A Fragment, by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Xanadu is the name of the Chinese province where Kubla establishes his pleasure garden in the poem.
The story of the musical focuses on a Greek muse, Clio, who descends from Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest creation of his life – a roller disco. But, when Clio, disguised as an Australian roller girl named Kira, falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and Clio risks eternal banishment to the underworld.
The musical opened on Broadway in 2007 and ran for over 500 performances. It earned an Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and a Drama Desk Award for Best Book.

It is easy to join this photo contest with 3 easy steps:
1. Sign in to your OVI account (or Create an OVI account). I used OVI for the photo slideshow above.
2. Upload a photo that best describes your life in the ’80s in my shared OVI Photo album: Life in the ’80s
3. For every photo entry, you should have your name, email and a short description of your life in the ’80s.

***It was July 6, 1985 when my twin sister Dyra and I were born. I’m not sure if this picture was taken in 1985 or early 1986. I can’t remember anything (of course), but my life back then was growing up with that one person who I can literally and figuratively call “my other half”. My parents and the whole family keep on telling us stories (up to this very day) on how we put a smile on their faces from the moment we were born. Life was very simple then. What makes 80’s special? It was the time when we were born and up to this very moment, Dyra and I are still together…living happily:)
