♬ The hills ♪ are alive with ♩The Sound of Music ♫…

If the timeless movie The Sound of Music was part of your childhood, you’ll certainly enjoy watching it onstage this time around.

The musical features the all-time favorite songs of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, like “The Sound of Music”, “Sixteen Going on Seventeen”, “My Favorite Things”, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” and “Do-Re-Mi”.

Watching this show with your family is a great way to introduce the younger generation to this classic. Don’t miss it!

The state-of-the-art Newport Performing Arts Theater (in Resorts World Manila) is where The Sound of Music is staged. The 30m x 8m LED background screen is utilized well in bringing the audience to The Sound of Music scenes. The acoustics are a bit poor, though, depending on where you sit.

Full Disclosure: We were invited to the press preview of The Sound of Music last Oct. 14 @ Resorts World Manila.

P.S. Here are some tips if you are bringing your kids:

  • Kids 3 years old and above are OK to watch the show.
  • No food and drinks are allowed inside. Bring some candies for the kids.
  • It’s a good thing that the arm rests can be raised so that the kids can lie down, if needed.
  • The show is very long with a total running time of 3 hours (with a 15-minute intermission).
  • The last part of the show is not as exciting as the first, so the kids will probably be asleep by then.

  1. Awesome pictures, Anton! This musical is very close to my heart since we did this back when I was in high school (got to play the role of Liesl). I’m even more excited now to watch this. 🙂

  2. I saw this last week and it was great. The stage is amazing and easily compares with broadway shows. The cast was great and Joanna has an awesome voice. Bring the whole family and enjoy this show! It was a bit long, had more songs that the movie so my 3 year old was asleep by intermission. The rest of my family really enjoyed it.

  3. Just came home from watching it… What can I say but wow, Wow, and WOW… Joanna Ampil and Pinky Marquez were exquisite!! I knew little about Joanna Ampil until today, and oh my she is an amazing actress and singer. Pinky Marquez’ rendition of Climb Every Mountain was AWESOME, just moved me to tears. Everyone in the cast was simply exceptional. Jon Joven (he looked a bit young though, even with the salt and pepper hair), Tanya Manalang, Pinky Amador, Miguel Faustmann, and ang galing galing galing ni Debraliz!! I loved everything about the show, the stage settings were breathtaking (ang ganda ng mansion and also the transition between sets, ang galing), I just wished the computer graphics were a bit more life-like. But all in all, two big thumbs up. Super world class production and performers.
