8065 Bagnet, Bagnet-Inspired Hole-in-the-Wall

The double-fried crispy pork specialty of Ilocos is glorified in this Bagnet-themed hole-in-the-wall resto in Makati. This place feels like Fat Michael’s and serves good food with warm service.

It is named after its street number address: 8065 Estrella. It is owned by Alain Nadal (older brother of a popular singer of our generation — Kitchie Nadal) and his partner Jeff Tuason. It’s been popular among Manila-based foodies for some time now.

Here is our 8065 Bagnet experience…

Would you eat in a place like this? The unassuming facade along Estrella St. can make some people think twice about eating here.

Inside, you’ll actually find a resto that has an artsy, homey feel with artworks on the wall and mixed tables and chairs.

The best table is the family table with a backdrop of this bagnet painting at the far end.
(I wonder what’s the story of this painting?)

Bagnet Kare-Kare (P195). Good for 2.

They offer different versions of bagnet: spicy gata, sisig, dinuguan, curry, binagoongan and kare-kare. Which one is your favorite?

You can order it as a set meal (P105-P115) with rice and soup, or an ala carte meal good for 2 (P175-P195).

The Bagnet Kare-Kare was deliciously deadly — it’s like Bagnet with peanut gravy sauce and sweet bagoong (shrimp paste) with hints of coconut. I liked the crispy bagnet pieces, especially the rib parts.

This is the kind of comfort food for us, and we love it!

Steamed Fish (Cream Dory) in Curry Sauce (P175).

For the health-conscious foodies, you can order cream dory in curry, spicy gata sauce or shrimp paste sauce.

The cream dory was a bit thin and had a different color (that needed to be covered by the sauce). It tasted just ok.

On the second floor, they have a private function room that you can reserve for a private party.

8065 Bagnet-17.jpg
It can accommodate a group of 15-20 people. As long as your group orders food, you can reserve this place.

There’s also a simple clothes shop there by Kitchie and Lala Nadal (with the help of Yasmin Yanong, who designed some of the dresses).

  1. My partner and I LOVE this place! We always order their steamed okra with bagoong on the side, plus they sell the 1.5l softdrinks for only P55! This is truly a bang-for-your-buck place.

  2. i always order the spicy guinataang bagnet. the sad thing is i can only eat there once a month (okay, maybe twice a month he he). there’s wi-fi? what’s the uername and password?

  3. Lately, the place looks dilapidated for me. It now looks like an old apartment that looked nice and cozy because of the lighting. Some paintings look creepy as well.
Oh the other hand, the food tastes great. Waiters are friendly and they never complain even if we have a lot of extra requests (extra rice, extra soup, extra ice, etc.) My future partner and I always go there every month. Can’t wait to bring my family to taste their bagnet and cream dory in Spicy Gata. 😀
