The Brgy. Kapitolyo Food Street is becoming one of our favorite foodie hangouts not only because of old favorites Cafe Juanita and Charlie’s but also due to new and interesting food/resto concepts like Mad Mark’s.

Mad Mark’s is a sandwich-place-and-ice-cream-parlor-in-one inspired by Mom and Pop Ice Cream Parlors in the US. Owned by DLSU-M Entrepreneurship graduate Mark Isidro, it is best known for its Half-Baked Madagascar Chocolate on Chocolate ice cream (a yummy flavor combination!).

We were curious about “THE” Man Sandwich so we made our way to Mad Mark’s one night…

The resto’s cool red, white and brown interiors give the place a homey feel. Since it is a neighborhood shop, the service is pretty much limited to 1-2 people who multitask as order taker, waiter, and manager all at once.

The tables were not designed with kids in mind as their edges are a bit rough. The acoustics are poor so it can get noisy, especially when there are kids around.

Mad Mark’s is the kind of place where you can bump into friends and where you would want to be seen hanging out.

The food took a while so they served herb parmesan fries, which were big hand-cut potato slices with generous amounts of parmesan and just a bit of that herb-y taste.

Strawberry Vinaigrette Salad with Grilled Chicken Fillet (P150).

We love starting our meal with something green, and this salad hit the spot. The sweet strawberry vinaigrette dressing was good, but we would most probably order it on the side next time so that it won’t overpower the taste of the vegetables.

Zing Wings (P170). 4 pcs.of 3 Joint Wing tossed in tangy Zing Sauce.

Mark is proud of their chicken wings. They were flavorful but a bit too spicy for the kids (we wanted a little bit of sweetness). If you like the tangy kind of sauce, these are the chili wings for you.

Country Pork Steak (P175). Grilled and served with Brown Mushroom Sauce.

The pork and the sauce were just OK.

Mariner Half (P150). Fish Fillet Sandwich served with House Mariner Sauce.

The half-size serving (a 5-inch sandwich) is just about right. We found the sauce a bit too rich and nakakasuya.

“THE” Man Sandwich (P290). For Meat Lovers. Grilled Chicken and Angus Beef topped with Mushroom Au Jus then Melted with Mozzarella. CAUTION: High in Protein and Messy.

The Man Sandwich exceeded our expectations. The full sandwich serving is good to share with the family. It has generous toppings of meat and cheese. Just by looking at it, you can tell it’s yummy. 🙂

We loved the chunks of chicken because they were cooked just right and had the right taste. The Angus Beef was a bit salty but still complemented the entire sandwich experience. We also enjoyed chewing on the bread, which held up quite well even if it had absorbed the meat juices.

Madagascar Vanilla Bean and Half-Baked Madagascar Chocolate on Chocolate (1 scoop -P68 and 2 Scoops – P98).

The best part of eating at Mad Mark’s was capping our meal with really yummy, creamy ice cream at an insanely good price! We recommend the Half-Baked Madagascar Chocolate on Chocolate flavor.

Although the food was reasonably priced and served in big portions, we found it a bit too rich, heavy and nakakasuya after some time. Hopefully, they can balance the flavors to make their comfort food more delightful.

Nevertheless, the ice cream at Mad Mark’s is awesome, and I’ve included it in the list of The BEST of Artisanal Ice Creams in Manila. 🙂

Full Disclosure: Nothing to disclose. We paid for our meals. We are not connected with the owners or any organization promoting Mad Mark’s.

(I must admit, though, I have a bias for Lasallian-owned restaurants. 🙂 )

P.S. You can park directly in front of Mad Mark’s or any available parking slot along the street except in front of other restaurants.

  1. Hi Anton,
Our team ate at Mad Mark’s today and found the service painfully slow. The owners must add more people if they don’t want to get irate customers like they did today, with 3 tables (including us) complaining to the cashier (who is also the server).
Another frustration: THE Man Sadwich is not available. How can the best-seller not be available to new customers?
So I settled for the Chicken Meltdown (apprently, angus beef is not available so everything on the menu with angus beef isn’t available) and found it delicious, but not something to rave about.
I also ordered a scoop of Madagascar Vanilla Bean and oh boy, did I like it. It’s really one of the best-tasting ice cream I had.
Will I come back to Mad Mark’s? Yes, to try other ice cream flavors and THE Man Sandwich. But I really hope they improve their service.

  2. Lousy ang service sa Mad Mark’s. We tried it today for the first time and we had to wait 30 mins for the sandwiches. And the rice that comes with the pork steak something is so konti. P35 for aboyt half a cup? Harang!

  3. thanks anton,
will visit mad marks, lapit lang house namen sa kanila!!!
another resto to brag about hehehehe!

  4. The ice cream is fantastic, and exceptionally good value!
Better presentation lang sana – right now, they just store it in plastic tubs; better if they make it into a scooping station type of thing.

  5. That picture here in this thread has convinced me to give MM’s a try next time I’m there in Manila (in a couple weeks)
    Looking forward to it.
Oh, and BabblingBarry, I really really really hope their service has improved by now also, I’d love to try the beef sub 🙂

  6. Ate there for lunch today with my officemates, service was soso, food arrived in like 10-12 mins. Given their no shortcut ideal i did not expect fastfood type of service but instead foods that are cooked fresh. Plus I love their “THE” man sandwich, great value.
I agree with grumpyurbanslacker ice cream presentation could be better but given how good their Madagascar Vanilla ice cream is, I cannot really complain. Madagascar Vanilla…. yummm…
