NAV Modern Thai Cuisine Reunion

A Nav Reunion-13.jpg

Here’s another restaurant worth checking out in the Brgy. Kapitolyo Food Street: Nav Modern Thai Cuisine. ๐Ÿ™‚ The place is run by the Naval brothers (hence the name) and Chef Francis Lim (my cousin-in-law) who used to work in People’s Palace.

Nav serves modern Thai cuisine that is suited to the Filipino taste (read: preference for sweeter dishes). We celebrated my wife’s LIM family reunion in Nav, so we got very good recommendations on what to order here…

The restaurant itself is a bit compact, but the mezzanine area can accommodate a family reunion of 25-30 people.

The boys are makukulit these days. Their shirts speak the truth! ๐Ÿ™‚

A Nav Reunion-7.jpg
Nav’s Pomelo Salad (P300 +10% service charge). Chili Spiked Chicken, Coconut Lime Dressing.

We started with Nav’s version of the Pomelo Salad, which the boys did not like because of the coconut taste and hints of chili. ย I did like the combination, but I think it’s overpriced at P300+.

A Nav Reunion-9.jpg
SON-IN-LAW EGGS (P180 +10% service charge). Deep-fried eggs, Tamarind Soup.

This was quite interesting. It’s the first time I saw this dish in a Thai restaurant. The eggs were complemented by the sweet hints of tamarind. I particularly liked the outer skin of each egg, which was fried to a nice crisp. Aidan loved this; it was gone in just a few minutes.

A Nav Reunion-30.jpg
Tom Yum Goongย (P270ย +10% service charge). Prawn, Hot, Sour Broth.

Their version is more like a Prawn Sinigang — heavier on the sour taste and no addition of coconut milk. You can add it in if you prefer (upon request).

A Nav Reunion-12.jpg
โ˜…ย Nav’s Pad Thai (P280 +10% service charge).

Nav’s Pad Thai was really good! It certainly caters to Filipinos (like us) who like their Pad Thai a little sweeter. For a family gathering, this is good for sharing among 3-5 people.

A Nav Reunion-16.jpg
โ˜…ย Wok-Fry Green Curry (P240 +10% service charge). Chicken, Bamboo Shoots.

I liked the Wok-Fry version of the curry. It was creamy, sweet and not too spicy.

A Nav Reunion-17.jpgNav’s Bagoong Riceย ย (P225ย +10% service charge). Fixings (Khao Krok Kapi).

The Bagoong Rice was just OK; it looked like ordinary fried rice. The curry went well with it, though.

A Nav Reunion-11.jpg
โ˜…ย Grilled Stuffed Squid with White Shrimp (P320 +10% service charge).

I personally loved this. It was cooked perfectly — soft and not rubbery. The squid was big and had tiny pieces of shrimps inside. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sarap!

A Nav Reunion-13.jpg
โ˜…ย Whole Crispy Tilapia, Chili Spiked Tamarind Sauce (seasonal pricing).

The tilapia’s meat was cut into pieces and placed on top of the bones. It was literally Sarap to the Bones!

A Nav Reunion-33.jpg
For dessert, Pam served her signature Risa Chocolates (Overall winner of UTT 5.0) in a nice, new packaging. ๐Ÿ™‚

A Nav Reunion-41.jpg
โ˜…ย Thai Sticky Rice, Fresh Mangoes (P170 +10% service charge).

We also ordered the classic dessert of Thai-style mango and suman with sweet coconut cream sauce for the boys. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s always fun meeting up with the LIM Family side of Rache…

  1. This is near my office so I ordered for pick up today. Loved it! I will be ordering my lunch there at least once a week, that’s for sure…..Thai is my favorite Asian cuisine, w Japanese and Vietnamese next.

  2. Yeah. Son-In-Law’s eggs are good (Actually it does remind me of People’s Palace). Also worth trying are chicken satay, served in that tent-like fashion ๐Ÿ˜›

  3. Filipina Smile:
Yes it is pretty affordable ๐Ÿ™‚ Dishes seems to average PHP 250.00 per head and they are good for sharing for 2-3 people already ๐Ÿ™‚ Let us know what you think ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve been meaning to return to this place ever since I tried it last October 2011 ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Just curious, you’ve blogged a lot but how come you haven’t tried People’s Palace?
it is one of the BEST thai food places out there. Others would be Azuthai and Benjarong.

  5. P.S. Are there any new restaurants that you like along the Brgy. Kapitolyo Food Street?
Have you tried CAB? this is the one beside charlies. super nice dessert!!!!!!

  6. Dear anton, ive been disappointed by your blog for the first time!!! I usually agree with your comments, but i am currently eating their pad thai and it tastes nothing like pad thai! They may have taken too mich liberty with the ‘filipino twist’ because it tastes more like pansit canton. So disappointed ๐Ÿ™

  7. I’m curious for you to compare Thai restos in the South – JPs in Greenheights along Sucat, Khua Thai in Pergola, Thai Fusion along Aguirre in BF Homes & Kah along El Grande in BF Homes. All claim authenticity to some level but I have my doubts with the first two.

  8. Now unfortunately closed, Micro Burgers in its old spot. Hope it’s still at Megamall.
As to Ramen Cool, for the one who asked โ€” it’s at the corner of East and West Capitol Drives. Walk east along United Street, cross West Capitol Drive
