The Raw Beauty of Tumalog Falls in Oslob, Cebu

Another must-see and recently discovered place in Oslob is the raw beauty of Tumalog Falls.

The falls have mini-umbrellas that cascade fine strands of cold, fresh water in a rain-like fashion.

Unlike in Kawasan Falls near Moal Boal, where it was overdeveloped with ugly cement structures and huts that destroyed its natural beauty, Tumalog Falls can be developed correctly as an eco-tourist destination without building structures near the falls itself and using only natural materials.

To get there from the Oslob Whale Watching area, you first have to drive for 15 minutes to the highlands of Oslob. (We were pleasantly surprised to find out that the road to Tumalog Falls was paved and developed already.)

Then, you have to hike for another 15 minutes to discover the falls. There’s no entrance fee at the moment.

The hike down was very steep, and we doubt if cars can maneuver their way back up the angled slope.

Most of us just sat down on our banigs and marveled at the awesome sight before us, with the occasional applause, especially when sunlight would hit at the right angle.

We brought some snacks, but we forgot to eat them because we were engrossed in watching the falls.

Unfortunately, there was litter all around the area from the local tourists. The surroundings are not maintained by the local government.

Can we save Tumalog Falls from destruction from the influx of tourists this summer?

A proper eco-tourism program MUST to be implemented in Oslob really soon.

Tip: Make sure to hike back up continuously to build momentum — don’t stop in the middle.

Full Disclosure: This is a personal trip hosted by Julie and Vic, Managing Partners of Bluewater Resorts, to showcase Cebu to their Manila-based friends.

P.S. There are suggestions to build cement huts and structures like the ones in Kawasan Falls in Moal Boal from the local government. When will the Mayor and local officials learn that cement structures just DESTROY the beauty of the falls?

  1. hello po! will be in cebu this coming june po… DIY trip mo kami… how far is this from mactan airport? thanks po! 🙂

  2. Nice shots. I sure hope that nobody builds any structure there. Better yet, I hope this does not become popular. I think Filipinos have a knack for destroying nature’s beauty. Eco-tourism management here is non-existent. I mean, just look at Boracay. I am sorry for being cynical but I have just seen a lot of nice places here in the Philippines that got ruined because of mismanagement (or greed or both).

  3. Hi! We are planning to go there in Oslob for the whaleshark watching this June and we might check out this falls since we are in the area. How much would it cost us to hire a habal-habal to & from the falls? Thanks for the help! 🙂

  4. Hi, Anton. We are planning to go whale shark watching at 6am, visit the Tumalog falls an hour or so after, and then make it back to the city by 3pm for our 5pm flight. Is this feasible? We really only have one day…
