Cafe Sabel is the in-house restaurant of the BenCab Museum, named after BenCab’s famous muse in his paintings.

Here you can enjoy recipes by BenCab, farm fresh ingredients, and home-cooked dishes by the chef.

You can also buy the jams, marmalades, native chocolate, and homemade atchara that they sell.

Here is our experience of Cafe Sabel…

The best thing about Cafe Sabel is the homey atmosphere with its fun, colorful chairs, long wooden tables, an awesome view of the garden, and alfresco ambiance to enjoy Baguio’s cool breeze.

It changed concessionaires throughout the years–from Cafe by the Ruins, to Chef Paul of  Kusina Salud, and now to the in-house Chef Mike Liwag, who provides homemade, freshly prepared dishes.

It is best to eat outdoors, but you can also choose to reserve this long family table right beside the kitchen.

Cucumber Cooler (P90). Cucumber, Mint and Lime

You can start with a refreshing cucumber drink or their signature strawberry shake.

★ Carrot & Ginger Soup (P90).

The soups are prepared fresh and hot — perfect for the cool weather! 🙂

★ Carrot & Pumpkin Soup (P90).

I personally liked the combination of carrot and pumpkin.

★ Farm Fresh Green Salad (P150).

Nothing beats fresh greens straight from the farm. It’s served with a mild strawberry vinaigrette. You can request for more cheese if you would like to have more flavor in the salad.

Bencab Museum-52.jpg
★ BenCab’s Chicken Paprika (P200).

This is BenCab’s own recipe served with pasta on the side. It’s good if you like a different kind of spice for your chicken.

Bencab Museum-84.jpg
★ Grilled Pork Chop (P150).

The pork chop is recommended as well (and they sure know how to grill the meat well). 🙂

Bencab Museum-47.jpg
Spicy Tuyo Pasta (P150).

I think they can improve this by using a better brand of pasta, or it would be great if they can create their own noodles. 🙂

Bencab Museum-20.jpgCafe Sabel is a good complement to the BenCab Museum experience because you can linger and hang out for a longer time to make your trip worthwhile.

The food is promising and it has the potential to be an artisan cafe since it has already started serving fresh vegetables from the farm and fresh coffee called BenCab’s brew.

The ambiance is just awesome with a great view of the garden, the forest and a duck pond, giving you an authentic old Baguio vibe. Budget P250/person.

Full Disclosure: BenCab is a friend. We paid for our meals. We are not connected with the establishment and any organization promoting it.

P.S. Lately, there have been Cafe Sabel fans who would often make the trip to the BenCab Museum just to eat at Cafe Sabel and see the garden and the farm. If you have tried Cafe Sabel, what’s your favorite here?

  1. My party of four went there last weekend, egged by me because of your article. The museum and the cafe were well worth the trip, despite some traffic along the way (we left Session at around 2pm) and to 1st timers, the seemingly endless Asin Road. I especially enjoyed having my meal with in-your-face proximity of the mountain side – very relaxing yet awe inspiring at the same time. We ordered (and shared) most of the meals that you had (pumpkin and watercress (this is good!) soup, salad, pork chop (bitin! we had to have 2), paprika chicken pasta, longganisa (texture was like meatballs but still good) and the Cabagon pansit (tasty!). Afterwards, browsing through the museum’s artwork with satiated stomachs is the perfect prologue of our trip. Thank you very much Anton for sharing your experiences thus allowing us to make our own.

  2. can you feature as well jim’s retro diner located at the ground floor of la azotea bldg session road?
