FOREST HOUSE Bistro Cafe (A First Timer’s Guide)

If you ask anyone from Baguio, Forest House is always included in the list of must eat places.  I must admit, it is our first time in Forest House in Baguio.

Now I understand why people rave about this place and why their attempt to expand to Manila did not prosper. I’m sure there are still Manileños who have not tried this Baguio favorite.

The concept of the place is like you’ve entered a log cabin in the middle of the forest.

The centerpiece of the house is the living room with an actual fireplace to keep you warm on cold nights.

They are known for their comfort food and steaks plus a cool way to present their food.

★ Forest House Bouillabaisse (P110 +10% service charge). A medley of seafood cream soup, served in a bread bowl.

On a cold night, you’ll never go wrong with a serving of hot creamy soup on the House’s signature bread bowl with an inspiring quotation to nourish one’s soul.

Forest House Homemade Bagnet (P195 +10% service charge). Crispy fried pork belly with papaya chutney and bagnet salsa.

Another signature dish is their homemade bagnet with the tomato- spring onion salsa appetizer. Their version is flavorsome and fried just right.

(Although recently Manila just went through a “bagnet craze” and eating bagnet in Baguio is losing its novelty.)

Sesame Crusted Fish Fillet (P295 +10% service charge). Pan seared creamy dory fillet crusted with black sesame seeds topped with asian mango salsa.

The dory was OK, and this is a good healthy choice.

We had to remove the black sesame seeds for the boys who didn’t appreciate the added texture.

Lengua con Setas (P325 +10% service charge). Ox tongue with mushroom sauce and green olive.

Lengua was OK too, and it was good to find our comfort-food favorites in the menu.

One of the best episodes of our Forest House experience was the dessert presentation 🙂

IMG_5989.jpg
★ Michael Angelo (P105/slice +10% service charge). Layers of meringue, cashew nuts, butter cream and toasted sliced almonds.

We love this sansrival-like cake with sliced almonds and the boys like the Sponge Bob artwork.

IMG_5983-2.jpg
Blueberry Cheesecake (P105/slice +10% service charge). Our Best Seller. Cheesecake topped with blueberry jam.

We love blue berries and order this if you are craving for cheesecake.

IMG_5969-2.jpg
Double Decker Chocolate Ala Mode (P120/slice +10% service charge). Two slices of heavy moist chocolate cake topped with ice cream.

This was too dense and a bit hard to eat 🙁

We love the ambiance at night especially on a cold Baguio weather. We also love the comfort food selection and its presentation which matches well with the ambiance. (Bringing the food without the ambiance did not really work out well when they tried to expand in Manila before.)

This is a place where you can have a lazy lunch or dinner with your family and friends, just enjoying each other’s company over good comfort food with soothing homey ambiance. (Although some did not like it anymore because it became too commercialized).

Next time, we will check out their Forest House Bed & Breakfast.

  1. Thanks to OurAwesomePlanet, we tried the Forest House as recommended! : ) very nice ambience, good food and excellent service! : ) MUST TRY

  2. I have no respect for supposedly classy restaurants which use cream dory for their fillets. Go to 50’s Diner or Good Taste.. They use real saltwater fishes.

  3. hate the place! all ambience but horrible food. basic things like overcooked chicken, rubber like lamb. ruined our birthday.
