Foodies agree that RAMEN YUSHOKEN is one of the BEST RAMENS in the south.
YUSHO means Champion and KEN means House and its ramen recipe is based on Koji Tashiro’s, a ramen champion considered as the son of Japan’s Ramen God – Yamagishi Kazuo.
We celebrated my younger brother Rommel’s birthday here and decided to order all the items in the well-curated menu.
Here’s our guide and our recommendations on what to order in Ramen Yushoken:
The BEST RAMEN in Manila Series 2013:
- RAMEN NAGI: BUTAO Gourmet Ramen now in Manila! @SMAuraPremier
- RAMEN DAISHO UKKOKEI: Hakata Tonkatsu Ramen and Yakibuta Chahan!
- TAMPOPO たんぽぽ: Deluxe Black Pig Shabu Ramen and Top Grade Black Pig Tonkatsu!
- IKKORYU FUKUOKA RAMEN Philippines’ Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen!
- RAMEN SANTOUKA PHILIPPINES: Legendary Hokkaido Ramen now in Manila!
- RAMEN YUSHOKEN: Guide to the Best Ramen House in the South!
- MITSUYADO SEI-MEN’s Double Cheese Sauce Tsukemen!
- NOMAMA (2x) But You
- UCC’s Tan Tan Mian Tonkotsu Ramen!
- GENYA Tonkotsu Ramen
- RAMEN BAR – One of the Best Authentic Japanese Ramen Places in Manila?
- TAMAGOYA! Ramen
- UKOKKEI RAMEN RON – One of the Best Shoyu Ramen in Manila!
Ramen lover, Ryan Cruz together with Elbert Cuenca in partnership with the Ramen Chef Champions created the Ramen Yushoken Concept in Molito, Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
The concept is to bring the most authentic ramen house experience to Manila.
The Ramen House interiors were designed by Noel Bernardo who also created Elbert’s Steak House. There’s no background music to stay true to the ramen house experience.
The menu is focused on ramen and complementary side dishes. There’s no dessert nor coffee, just like in Japan; no vegetarian nor healthy options as well.
Morimoto Soba Ale 650ml (P500 +10% service charge).
We would recommend to start with the Morimoto Soba Ale which adds an exotic stronger beer flavor to the ramen experience.
They don’t have forks and spoons, so our boys got to practice eating with chopsticks.
The noodles and gyoza wrapper are freshly made in-house.
The service is accommodating and they serve the ramen as fast as they can.
TONKOTSU RAMEN
All the ramens have the same broth coming from 12 hours of boiling pork bone (tonkotsu).
★ MISO Tonkotsu Ramen (P380 +10% service charge).
Go for the Miso if you like the stronger and deeper pork broth flavors with flavorful tender slices of pork meat.
SHIO Tonkotsu Ramen (P320 +10% service charge).
The Shio version is like eating a milky ramen soup if you like a lighter tasty version.
★ SHOYU Tonkotsu Ramen (P350 +10% service charge).
I prefer the Shoyu which has stronger flavors from black garlic bits, garlic oil and sesame seeds.
TANTAN-MEN Tonkotsu Ramen (P380 +10% service charge).
The Tantan-Men is the spicy version and uses grounded pork. (Although, it is not as spicy hot as the birthday boy expected it to be.)
I love the noodles freshly made in-house, cooked al dente, and bouncy-like when you eat it.
SIDE DISH/ EXTRAS:
★ Gyoza (P150 +10% service charge).
Another foodie favorite in Yushoken is their gyoza, with a thin in-house made wrapper and seared perfectly on one end. The boys loved it and we had to order +2 more to satisfy our craving.
Aji Tamago (P80 +10% service charge).
Order these flavorful eggs to match with your ramen.
Karaage (P210 +10% service charge).
The fried boneless chicken is equally good as appetizer or for the boys.
Chahan (P220 +10% service charge).
Don’t forget to order the Japanese fried rice together with the chicken.
TSUKEMEN:
Tsukemen is like a deconstructed ramen where you dip the noodles into the soup.
Tonkotsu Tsukemen (P390 +10% service charge).
The basic version is served with plain ramen noodles to be dipped with the basic tonkotsu broth.
(Although, I still prefer the Tsukemen of MITSUYADO SEI-MEN which has a thicker noodle that absorbs the soup better.)
★ Gyokal Tsukemen (P390 +10% service charge).
If you are ordering the Tsukemen, I would recommend gyokal version which is the tonkotsu broth with seafood flavors of seaweed, shrimps and other ingredients.
COLD RAMEN:
★ Hiyashi Chuka (P370 +10% service charge).
Surprisingly, we love this cold ramen version which is served like a salad with the noodles as a base and you have a choice of flavorful soy or sesame-based sauce.
You can request to put the meat on the side and order this for the health-conscious or vegetarian person.
The current Japanese Chef of Yushoken is Chef Takane who is assigned to Yushoken to make sure that the ramen recipe stays true and authentic to the Yamagishi recipe.
He reports to Hideaki Aoyama, a ramen champion, who in turn reports to Koji Tashiro, the anointed son of the 80-year old ramen god Yamagishi Kazuo.
Overall, highly recommended and a surprisingly delicious and authentic Ramen addition to the Ramen Craze in Manila 🙂 Budget P500 per head when you eat in Yushoken.
They have a limited capacity of 170-200 bowls of ramen per day and there are talks that they had turned down people because they have reached their maximum capacity earlier than expected. Best to go when they open at 11.00-11.30am for lunch or 5.30-6.00pm for dinner.
It’s best to order one ramen per person to enjoy its full flavor. No takeouts are allowed.
Congrats Ryan and Chef Elbert for Yushoken!

P.S. After Yushoken, the best dessert place in Molito area is the Designer’s Blooms Cafe.
Designer’s Blooms Cafe is a flower shop and art cafe. It’s a nice place to cap the meal with fresh smell of flowers all around you, and with a great photo opportunity to boot.
We ordered an apple pie ala mode with vanilla ice cream as Rommel’s birthday cake 🙂
Chocolate Oblivion (P274 +10% service charge). See the complete dessert menu.
Their cakes are from our favorite Classic Confection – yummy but a bit expensive; and you can detect that the cakes have been waiting for a while once you tasted them.
Happy 37th Birthday, Rommel! May your dreams come true this 2013 🙂
Do they have vegetarian chicken stock or soup base without pork stock? Even if its soy based they still put pork stock in the soup like at Kenji Tei
All the ramen have pork tonkutsu as the base soup.

Ramen <3
Are the servings generous enough? Seems that the bowls are small.
I think it is enough for one but not as big enough like the other ramen restos.

The BEST RAMEN in Manila Series 2013: bakit kasama ang Tamagoya. eh nasa Antipolo ito
Why does it read like you lifted the words of Elbert from his post in Philmug? Is that where you did your research?
It was the same story that the Japanese Chef shared.
I’ve been to Yushoken and the chef does not speak English. How were you able to get all that info from him?
Anyway, I used Viper to find this thread in Philmug.
http://www.philmug.ph/forum/f61/authentic-ramen-house-japanese-restaurant-79891/index17.html#post1182780
You can talk to Chef Takane who knows a little english. Yes, I used the above for reference to double check the story and get the correct spelling of the names of the chef. Thanks for sharing the link.
Hi, Anton. Can you explain a bit, “you can detect that the cakes have been waiting for a while once you tasted them”. Does this mean that the cakes are stale?
@Alter Ego – yes it was a bit stale but edible still.
Anton
Anton, your entry on this ramen resto is giving out misinformation on their operational schedule. Please correct it
I’ve been eating there during the middle of the day and on Mondays too. Responsible dude is right, your post has wrong information. Their facebook page indicates they’re open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Thanks to you, we are booked for Batanes! May I ask if you know of a good place to stay in el nido thats really by the beach and where its at least a nice beach with great breakfast? Thanks!
Check out the Entalula Beach Resort in El Nido town.
