When in Korea, you’ve got to taste the authentic Korean Fried Chicken, so we visited NOO NA HOL DAK Chicken while shopping in MYEONGDONG — The 9th Most Expensive Shopping Street in the World.

Here’s a photo essay of our experience…

Myeongdong

Myeongdong,  which literally means “bright town” is the best high-end shopping destination in Seoul.

The beauty stores have their own gimmicks like this pink bubble bath to lure customers in.

Myeongdong street is also full of street food stalls, like this one for a pastry topped with egg.

1-2 hours is not enough to go shopping around Myeongdong area. It’s best to shop around late afternoon to dinner time. (Tip: Restrooms are located on the top floors.)

For dinner, our guide Helen brought us to a favorite chicken shop by locals — Noo Na Hol Dak.

The entire menu is in Korean but they have photos so you can just point to what you want.

The fried chicken is best paired with local Korean beers like Cass.

They serve hot soup, popcorn, and pickled vegetables as appetizers.

I love their healthy serving of salad with their signature black sesame sauce.

I like the Korean Fried Chicken which is very juicy inside and crispy on the outside.

The soy garlic version is the best — it’s sweet and has a very nice chili kick.

We had to order another serving just to satisfy our cravings! Budget is about KRW14,200 or P600/pax.

  1. We were in Seoul exactly a year ago, and we’re going back this December. I didn’t know this existed in Myeongdong — we’d definitely TRY this one out!!

  2. There are a lot of places in Manila that offers Korean chicken. One that comes to mind is Kulpy Chicken. They have a branch in Banawe and SM North Foodcourt. They claim that they’re authentic but I can’t be sure because I haven’t tried the real thing. You might want to check it out and let us know how Kulpy fared.

  3. I enjoy this blog about Myeongdong area and NOO NA HOL DAK Restaurant. I suddenly remember the scene in “You’re Beautiful” where Go Mi Nam goes around Myeong-dong. 🙂

  4. Thanks Ron! Sige, will check Kulpy out. After this Korean series in OAP, planning to go around Manila and feature the best Korean places 🙂

  5. Yey, I’ve been waiting for you to feature Korean restaurants in Manila for so long. I shall look forward to that. Please visit Korean cafes too. They’re so cute even if coffee isn’t that good. 🙂
Btw, aside from Kulpy, there are other Korean chicken places you might want to try for comparison like “Hol-dak” at Mezza Residences in Sta Mesa.; “BBQ Chicken & Beer” with branches in Greenhills, Eastwood, etc.; “Smoper’s” at BGC. Enjoy!
