One of my favorite traditional London Pubs is The Counting House. A former banking hall built in 1893, it has had its 19th Century charm preserved with chandeliers, a wooden staircase, high-domed ceiling, and authentic fixtures reminiscent of that era.

The Counting House is located at 50 Cornhill and showcases a traditional office facade.
It’s packed like an old boys’ hangout with people having power lunch and drinks at midday.
We went up to the 2nd floor for a private function. Just look at the elegance of the bar with overhanging chandelier.

We had a set lunch of traditional British food.
My power lunchmates made The Counting House meal more memorable.

The starters were a simple serving of seasonal vegetable soup and baguette.
A traditional British dish is the Shepherd’s Pie with meat, topped with cheese and green peas.
Fullers Brewery Beer battered Fish & Chips, served with peas & traditional tartar sauce.
One of the best Fish & Chips we’ve had during our trip.
It was soft, still juicy, not too oily, and presented well in a fish shape.
London Pride is a smooth & well balanced beer, which has a distinctive malty base complemented by a rich balance of well-developed hop flavours from the Target, Challenger & Northdown varieties in the brew. London Pride is an ideal session-strength premium ale.
When you’e in London, make sure to have some Fuller’s London Pride as it goes well with the Fish & Chips. 🙂 Best of all, they serve London Pride as draught (British spelling of “draft”) beer in the Counting House!
Sticky Toffee Pudding served with pouring cream.
I like the toffees in London. This is just the best dessert to end a traditional British meal in a traditional London Pub. 🙂

This was the best British Pub experience for me during our trip. 🙂 The Sheperd’s Pie, Fish & Chips with Draft London Pride, and Sticky Toffee Pudding has changed the way I look at traditional British food.
My only issue is the service is slow and the entire place has an old boys’ club feel.

I was under the impression that traditional London pubs were smaller and found mostly at small corners of buildings in the boroughs? This one looks like a grand hall.
Awesome experience to be here. I love the food that they serve here specially the beer in a London Pride glass. Thanks for posting this, it brings back some old memories that I treasure.
