KITCHEN 1B is a wholesome and healthy restaurant by Marivic Diaz-Lim of Apartment 1B fame. After surviving breast cancer, she is on a mission to promote a healthier lifestyle for foodies.

We had the opportunity to try Kitchen 1B for both breakfast and lunch. Here’s our experience…

Kitchen 1B is located at KL Tower Residences along Gamboa Street. There is also an entrance at the back along Soria Street.

Kitchen 1B-6.jpg
The cheerful restaurant ambiance with high ceiling was designed by Popi Laudico and gives the feeling of eating in the home kitchen of Marivic Diaz-Lim.

Kitchen 1B-9.jpg
The open kitchen is surrounded by a bar, which occasionally transforms into a buffet station during breakfast.

Kitchen 1B-4.jpg
The best seats are by the Kenneth Cobonpue sofa and long table, with a refrigerator wall design by Marivic’s friend.

BREAKFAST

Kitchen 1B-28.jpg
✮ Poached Egg & Kale on Toast (P460 +10% service charge)Goat cheese ricotta, feta and avocado mash, multigrain sour toast.

Love this healthy version of eggs benedict using the superfood kale as a base. My only complaint is the bread gets soggy at some point.

Kitchen 1B Breakfast-3.jpg
✮ Blueberry & Oat Pancakes (P440 +10% service charge). Organic old fashioned oats.

I liked these pancakes mixed with organic oats with blueberries on the side.

Kitchen 1B Breakfast-10.jpg
✮ Uncle Luke’s Real Maple Syrup (P140 +10% service charge)

Make sure you also get this real maple syrup. All-natural, no thickener, and with a sweetness that’s addicting.

Kitchen 1B Breakfast-2.jpg
Yardstick Hot Chocolate (P120 +10% service charge).

The hot chocolate was just OK. I was expecting it to have a bolder chocolate flavor. Maybe they can use local tsokolate instead?

Kitchen 1B Breakfast-8.jpg
✮ Beef Tapa Filipino Egg Breakfast (P740 +10% service charge). Marinated Australian grass-fed tenderloin. Two organic free range eggs cooked any style, garlic brown rice, pickled papaya.

This grass-fed beef tapa was really good. The taste of the meat lingers after every bite. With brown rice, organic eggs, and a good serving of veggies, it’s a complete, healthy meal.

Kitchen 1B Breakfast-14.jpg
✮ Corned Steak & Eggs (P990 +10% service charge). Australian grass-fed striploin, two organic free range eggs cooked any style, mixed greens, sweet potato home fries.

The grass-fed, lean-meat striploin is corned and brined for hours, then grilled to give it that corned beef-steak textured flavor. It was a bit dry.

LUNCH

Kitchen 1B-12.jpg
✮ Oat-Crusted Mushroom Quiche (P340 +10% service charge). Onion, gruyere, mixed salad greens.

The mushroom and gruyere give this quiche a nice, smooth flavor, well-complemented by the texture of the oat crust.

Kitchen 1B-15.jpg
Mushroom and Eggplant Lasagna (P620 +10% service charge). Fresh whole wheat spinach lasagna, feta, gruyere, fontina, mixed salad greens.

Too “veggie” for my taste but a good healthy alternative.

Kitchen 1B-17.jpg
✮ Grilled Mango BBQ Chicken (P530 +10% service charge). Boneless free range, pro-biotic, hormone-free chicken, cruciferous vegetables.

The boys loved this. I liked the smooth, sweet BBQ and mango flavor of the chicken meat.

Kitchen 1B-21.jpg
Social Club Rouge (P850/bottle, P180/glass) and Lamadoro Primitivo (P950/bottle, P200/glass).

Biodynamic wines anyone?

Kitchen 1B-23.jpg
The wine has a different flavor and aftertaste.

Kitchen 1B-19.jpg
✮ Lamb Curry (P690 +10% service charge). Australian lamb, basmati rice, tomato salsa, fried sweet plantain, papadum.

The tender lamb soaked in curry sauce was super yummy!

I think this is the only dish that crossed-over from Apartment 1B’s specials and found its permanent home in Kitchen 1B.

Overall, I love the healthier alternative concept and use of superfood ingredients in the menu. Don’t forget to reserve the Kenneth Cobonpue sofa and long table for your seats.

For breakfast, order the Poached Egg & Kale on Toast, Blueberry & Oat Pancakes with Real Maple Syrup, and Beef Tapa Filipino Egg Breakfast.

For lunch, I recommend the Oat-Crusted Mushroom Quiche, Lamb Curry, and Grilled Mango BBQ Chicken.

Budget is around P800/head, which is a bit on the high side.

Congratulations to Marivic Diaz-Lim for this wholesome and healthy restaurant venture!

  1. Wow! Almost 500 bucks for pancakes? 🙁
And when I saw the rest of the menu… the price is very prohibitive much like Apartment 1B.
Obviously hindi ako yung target market nito.
    Ouchie yung prices.
    But the photos look great!

  2. Had breakfast there a few days ago. A bit expensive my eyes
popped at 7am for Tapa and Omelette that cost an arm and a leg.
Otherwise, a nice place fronting the park.

  3. Well, Anton the place is nice. Although the prices are little expensive, the ambiance of the restaurant is really good. The prices in the menu depend with the presentation of the dishes aside from the prices of the ingredients and how they cooked the dishes.
I think that this place is also good for the Executive Breakfast Board Meetings. The restaurant is also decent. Thanks for sharing this one. Have a nice day always.

  4. Wow, has the peso lost all value in this restaurant? The prices are really ridiculous. Everyone has to chip in yata for the price of the brand lounger? Brings to mind the saying, ‘A fool and his money are soon parted.’

  5. P440 yung pancakes na yun, at talagang like mo na ganun lang karami yung strawberries at blueberries? Wow. Your reputation

  6. Ate here yesterday. The food was nice, but the prices are really prohibitive. More than P300 for waffles? P740 for tapa? Yikes.

  7. WOW the menu is expensive. I commend the owner for the effort to promote healthy eating/living but seems like the only ones who can afford these are the wealthy.

  8. hahaha dami na akong mabibigyan ng food/mga taong walang makain sa presho na yan…cant believe people pay that much for healthy living.

  9. Organic costs money because it is much more difficult to farm without toxins. The price of food does not reflect the true cost to the planet and us all. Believe me, spending money on healthy food has far more long term benefit than the latest designer apparel or flatscreen TV. If you value your health pay for good food. Start at 1B.

  10. I usually agree with your reviews. However, my experience with Kitchen 1B was totally different. We had dinner there yesterday. The Garlic Shrimp Pasta (2 orders at P500++ each) were way too salty. The Cheese Burgers (2) were the biggest disappointment. We ordered them medium rare. The burger patties served were HARD BOILED. For P600.00++ each for the Cheese Burgers, I was expecting a lot more than boiled burger patties. Maybe the cook (no Chef worth his/her salt would serve such food), may just have had a bad night, but that is not an excuse. P3000+++ for salty pasta and overcooked boiled burgers, onion rings and iced tea. If that is not a rip-off, I don’t know what is.
