MODERN TOILET: Would you eat in this Poo-Poo & Pee-Pee Themed Restaurant in Taiwan?

Modern Toilet Store-61.jpg

MODERN TOILET started out as Marton resto in 2004. It was rebranded as Modern Toilet in 2006.

If your kids are all boys, you probably know how fond they are of poo-poo, pee-pee, and fart jokes. So just imagine our boys’ surprise when we brought them to this restroom-themed resto in Taiwan.

Here’s a photo essay of our Modern Toilet experience with the boys…

I recommend going to the most popular store of Modern Toilet, located in the hip Ximending shopping area.

If you’re going with your boys, best to surprise them and tell them stories about this secret restroom restaurant.

Modern Toilet Store-12.jpg
Poo-poo mascots welcome you. The fun never stops from here on out. 🙂

Modern Toilet Store-14.jpg
The restaurant has 80 toilet bowl seats. The above photo shows the first floor of the resto.

See Modern Toilet Delicious & Happy English Menu/Order Form.

There’s a minimum order requirement of NT 80/person, so you’re really forced to order the a la carte dishes.

You can bring home a Modern Toilet souvenir to remember this special moment.

We decided to sit on the second floor. Just avoid sitting right next to the actual toilet.

Modern Toilet Store-21.jpg
The actual restroom is a bit yucky and not cleaned well.

Modern Toilet Store-20.jpg
The toilet bowl seats are covered and the tables are made of glass placed on top bathtubs. There are shower fixtures on the walls to complete the toilet effect.

Modern Toilet Store-29.jpg
One of the best places to sit is this table by the 3D toilet mural.

Modern Toilet Store-41.jpg
We ordered their hot pot served with soup in a toilet bowl.

Modern Toilet Store-45.jpg
Modern Toilet Signature Hot Pot (Beef – NT$ 280).

It was a bit gross to look at. The boys had fun pretending how smelly it was.

Modern Toilet Store-38.jpg
Assam Tea Cold (NT$ 100 + 40 for urinal).

When you order a drink, make sure to upgrade to a urine container. You can bring home the functional souvenir and put it in your car for those times when you just have to go.

My wife Rache with friends Meg, Catherine, and Gigi. We had a fun time trying out the resto for the first time.

The hot pot is just normal. Nothing to really rave about except the presentation…

Modern Toilet Store-49.jpg
…and the countless instagrammable moments.

The serving size is good, with generous amounts of meat, noodles, and toppings.

Aidan couldn’t help but leave a message in the bathtub…

You have to order their dessert, which is the highlight of the meal.

Modern Toilet Store-66.jpg
Toilet No. 4 Ice Shaving (NT$ 100). Strawberry ice-cream with Kiwi sauce.

It’s iced kachang a la mode with fruits, raisins, jelly, and marshmallows. Reminds me of loose bowel poo.

Modern Toilet Store-65.jpg
Each a la carte meal comes with a complimentary serving of vanilla and chocolate ice cream shaped like a spiral poo.

Modern Toilet Store-74.jpg
The boys loved the concept and didn’t mind what it looked like…

Modern Toilet Store-78.jpg
…until they started playing with the ice.

Modern Toilet Store-82.jpg
The boys couldn’t help taking pictures with the poo-poo mascot after our meal. 🙂

Modern Toilet Store-18.jpg

Our boys loved the novel toilet concept (without the smell) and the ice shavings more than the hot pot. Consider upgrading your drink with the urinal and take it home as a souvenir.

The quality of the food is just OK. You really are just paying for the toilet ambiance and the instagrammable moments.

Our total damage was NT520, so budget about NT100/person.

Next stop, Hospital or The Jail restaurant?

  1. Hi, Anton how are you? I’ve not seen this before. Ibang klaseng restaurant ito. I have some friends who went to visit in Taiwan. Akala ko ay nagbibiro lang siya, iyong pala ay totoo. Well, you must have a strong or tough stomach before you enter in the restaurant. You got another travel experience, Anton but it is nice also. Have a nice day always.

  2. I love these photos. Your kids look so happy and game na game! They are at the perfect age too to enjoy the sillyness of such a concept resto.
