BASKIN-ROBBINS Back in Manila! (A Review)

What’s your favorite
Baskin Robbins flavor?

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-32.jpg
BASKIN-ROBBINS is America’s Favorite Neighborhood Ice Cream Shop, founded by brothers-in-law Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins in 1945. The brand was last seen in Manila more than a decade ago but has now made a comeback. The timing couldn’t be more right, because Manileños have been craving for better ice creams. 🙂

We had to wait for close to 2 hours on Baskin Robbins’ opening weekend, but it was well worth it. Part of the fun is in choosing from 31 delicious flavors and customizing how you want to enjoy your ice cream.

Here’s a photo essay of our Baskin Robbins experience last weekend in BGC…

Baskin Robbins is located on the Upper Ground Floor of the BGC Cinema Building in the Central Square.

It’s set up as an island kiosk. You have to line up because they only have one counter for order taking and payment.

You can do a taste test to determine your favorite.

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-25.jpg
Step 1. I recommend ordering 3 flavors for sharing…

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-31.jpg
…in the freshly made waffle cups. 🙂

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-15.jpg
COCONUT – MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP – GREEN TEA – ✮ RUM RAISIN

The Rum Raisin is the most interesting among these flavors. You can tell which the best tasting ones are from the half-full containers.

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-17.jpg
PRALINES ‘N CREAM – CITRUS TWIST ICE – COOKIES ‘N CREAM – ✮ PISTACHIO ALMOND

I love the rich pistachio flavor and how the roasted almonds counterbalance the sweetness and umay feeling.

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-24.jpg
✮ CARAMEL TURTLE TRUFFLE – CHOCOLATE CHIP – RAINBOW SHERBET – ORANGE SHERBET

My favorite creamy vanilla ice cream, with caramel-filled, milk chocolate-flavored turtles, and a caramel ribbon!

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-27.jpg
BLACKBERRY YOGURT – STRAWBERRY YOGURTMAUI BROWNIE MADNESSMANGO YOGURT

The boys loved the Strawberry and Mango Yogurt. The Maui Brownie Madness was also really good but a little too rich.

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-29.jpg
It took us an hour to wait in line, plus another hour to taste the flavors and figure out how to customize our ice cream. 🙂

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-39.jpg
Step 2. Go for the Caramel Pralines, Reese’s Peanut Butter, or Maple Walnut toppings for your vanilla flavor-based ice cream. Consider the Marshmallow topping for the kids. 🙂

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-34.jpg
I don’t recommend the preserved fruits because they’re just too sweet.

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-38.jpg
JAMOCAVERY BERRY STRAWBERRY – CHOCOLATE – VANILLA

Try the Jamoca, an exclusive coffee blend flavor for Baskin Robbins. If you want a richer strawberry taste, go for the Very Berry Strawberry instead of the Strawberry Yogurt.

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-40.jpg
✮ CHOCOLATE MOUSSE ROYALE – CARAMEL CHOCOLATE CRUNCH – GOLD MEDAL RIBBON – PRALINES ‘N CREAM

I like the velvety smoothness of the Chocolate Mousse Royale.

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-42.jpg
✮ JAMOCA ALMOND FUDGE – CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE DOUGH – COOKIES ‘N CREAM  – WORLD CLASS CHOCOLATE

Another favorite of mine is the Jamoca Almond Fudge, which is coffee with chocolate and roasted almonds. World Class Chocolate is a favorite among foodies 🙂

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-44.jpg
CARAMEL TURTLE TRUFFLE – CHOCOLATE CHIP – GREEN TEA – MANGO TANGO

You can try the green tea or fruit flavors to complement the other rich flavors.

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-20.jpg
Step 3. This is automatically added so make sure you tell them if you don’t want whipped cream.

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-56.jpg
Final Tip: Try getting 2 rich and one light flavor for your ice creams. Then choose toppings with nuts to counterbalance the sweetness.

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-49.jpg
Two full scoops in a cup cost P199, while one full scoop in a cup is P119.

(If a full scoop is too much, you can get the junior scoop in a cup for P85, or 2 junior scoops for P145. See Baskin Robbins Menu.)

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-54.jpg
There are dining tables at the back where you can hang around and enjoy your ice cream. It might be wiser to order take out since this section is always full.

BASKIN ROBBIN BGC-60.jpg

It’s really awesome to have BASKIN ROBBINS back in Manila! Their presence will surely help build and intensify the competition for the best ice cream in Manila.

My favorite flavors are the CARAMEL TURTLE TRUFFLE, PISTACHIO ALMOND, RUM RAISIN, JAMOCA ALMOND FUDGE, and CHOCOLATE MOUSSE ROYALE. Most foodies rave about the WORLD CLASS CHOCOLATE. What’s your favorite? Any recommendation?

The only issue for me is the flavors are too rich and nakakaumay. Consider combining flavors with nuts together with a flavor that is fruity or light. The junior scoop should be enough.

Budget is about P120 per scoop (average).

  1. Hi Anton how are you? Thanks for posting this one. I love to eat ice cream especially during my childhood days. We have a lot of ice cream here in San Francisco. The most popular ice cream is Mitchels’s Ice Cream (http://www.mitchellsicecream.com/). They are still in the business for almost a century and it is a family owned business. It is not a franchised business because the owners want to keep the quality of the ice cream. My favorite ice cream is mango, coffee, green tea, Thai tea, and Quezo Real. I usually eat ice cream after my meal as my dessert. Have a nice day always.

  2. Hi. Were you able to get their contact number? I just have some queries. Thank you! The site is not working at the moment. -_-
