BERLIN: Meeting The Filipina Diplomatic Wife over Berlin Chocolates @DiplomaticWife

BERLIN Chocolates are one of the best pasalubongs you can bring home to your loved ones or friends back in Manila. 

It was awesome to meet The Diplomatic Wife, a Filipina Expat diplomat now assigned in Berlin. She introduced me to one of the best boutique chocolate shops in Berlin–Winterfeldt Schokoladen.  

You can follow her ongoing food and travel adventures in Berlin with a Filipina perspective. 

I was able to visit Fassbender & Rauch at the Gendarmenmarkt first, so I had a something to contrast with my Winterfeldt Schokoladen experience.

Fassbender & Rauch

Fassbender & Rausch is one of the most touristy chocolate shops in Berlin, located in the Gendarmenmarkt area.

The shop features sculpture pieces made entirely of chocolate, like this Teddy Bear…

…this Volcano…

…a Cruise Ship… 

…the Reichstag Parliament Building, and…

…the Brandenburg Gate.

You can buy different chocolate variations per pack.

Love the Mandel-Nougat Pralines (€1.60)–chewy & creamy but not too sweet.

I recommend buying their signature chocolate tin boxes and an assortment of truffles.

Check out the Premium Törtchen (Tarts  – €3.95/each).

Different flavors of Petit Four (€7.25/100g).

Make sure you get a few Marzipan Pralines (€6.25/100g)…

…available in different shapes (like heart), colors, and textures, aside from the flavors.

Pralines with different fillings (€6.25/100g).

Truffle with whisky (€6.25/100g).

Truffle with Champagne and other alcoholic flavors (€6.25/100g).

I got two cute tin chocolate cans with assorted truffles and pralines for €9.56. 

You can also try their Chocolate Restaurant on the 2nd floor of the building if you have more time.

BERLIN BITES: WINTERFELDT SCHOKOLADEN

“This is one of my favourite Berlin Finds and a must visit for any chocolate lover in Berlin. This place was awarded Best Chocolate Specialty Shop in Germany 2012. With the fine selection of chocolate, it well deserves the award. TD and I have been addicted to it since our friend Isabelle took us their the first time. Our favourites are the Roc Lait (milk chocolate covered ganache with nougat), Kondierte Orangen (candied orange slices dipped in chocolate) and the chocolate covered marshmallow with wafer base. The Salted Caramel Macarons is also great. TD also loves the thick hot chocolate, and he orders it in large size. This is not for the choco-faint-hearted. You’ve been warned!”

I was excited to discover this boutique chocolate shop located near Winterfeldplatz, where the famous Wednesday and Saturday Berlin Markets are held.

They sell handmade chocolates…

…and gourmet chocolates from all over the world.

Like the Amedei Award-Winning Chocolates.

Love the artistic chocolate wrapper designs!

I was proud to see 71% Dark Chocolates from Davao, Philippines. 🙂

They have a cafe where you can just hang out with friends and enjoy some chocolate.

We ordered DiploWifes chocolate favorites…

Roc Lait (€8.50/100g) milk chocolate covered ganache with nougat.

It has a smooth chocolate flavor with chewy nougat texture and just the right sweetness. 

I scored pogi pasalubong points with my wife for the Roc Lait. 🙂

Kondierte Orangen (€5.00/100g) candied orange slices dipped in chocolate.

The candied orange slices add a tangy counterbalance to the sweet dark chocolate.

My favorite combination: Strong Chocolate Drink with sweet Roc Lait. 

I prefer this chocolate boutique over the commercialized ones.
