MING KEE’s King Crab–Triple Cooked with Beehoon–now in Manila! (A Review)

MING KEE is a Singaporean Restaurant known for its signature Crab Beehoon dish and other Singaporean specialties. It recently opened in Manila along Makati Avenue, as part of the World Hotels currently being constructed there.

Here’s what to expect when dining at Ming Kee…

Ming Kee Live Seafood-1.jpg
Ming Kee can be found along the busy Makati Avenue, near the corner of Kalayaan. Unfortunately, there’s no parking available in front.

They’re still on soft opening so there are plenty of tables to choose from during lunch time.

I like the couch tables near the window with a view of the chaotic Makati Avenue traffic.

Ming Kee Menu: How it all began… | Ming Kee Triple Cooked with Beehoon | Live Seafood | Roast and Marinated, Salads, Appetizer | Soups, Vegetables, Fresh Seafood, Shrimps, Prawns, Clams, Oyster, Squid/ Cuttlefish | Pork, Beef, Homemade Beancurd, Noodles, Fried Rice

✮ Ming Kee Triple Cooked with Beehoon (1 kg – P250/ 100 gm +5% service charge). Acknowledged as one of Singapore’s best dishes. Ming Kee’s Crab Beehoon is stir-fried, steamed, and braised to perfectly infuse our secret flavors together with the rice noodles and the moist succulent crabs. This heavenly creation of our master chef will make you come back for more.

Make sure to order the King Crab, which weighs at a minimum of 1kg. It’s a bit expensive but is worth every peso.

The crab meat is fresh, meaty, and so yummy to eat. The beehon with their secret sauce is so addicting, you can’t get enough of it.

Stir-fried Black Pepper Crab (1 kg – P200 per 100g)

The second bestseller is the Black Pepper crab, which wasn’t as saucy as I expected it to be.

It’s peppery hot and a bit messy to eat, but you can’t help but use your hands to get every piece of meat and lick the sauce off your fingers.

✮ Deep-fried Fish Skins (Small – P300 +5% service charge)

A healthy fish skin chicharon, which you can dip in their ginger-onion sauce. Make sure to order this as an appetizer.

Ming Kee Live Seafood-18.jpg
Braised Beancurd in Clay-pot (Small – P380 +5% service charge)

The beancurd is homemade and served boiling in a claypot. It was very hot to eat, so I recommend letting it cool down a bit first so you can enjoy it without burning your tongue.

Ming Kee Live Seafood-19.jpg
✮ Sambal Fried Rice (Medium – P450 +5% service charge)

This spicy rice is best paired with the Crab Beehon or the Black Pepper Crab.

Ming Kee’s a great place to enjoy with other people who also love good Singaporean food.

Ming Kee Live Seafood-24.jpg
Stir-fried Cereal Prawns (Small – P525 +5% service charge)

The cereal prawns weren’t oily (unlike in other restaurants). The shrimps are small and best eaten with their heads to really enjoy this.

TIP: You can order extra cereals, which you can put on your rice or the other dishes for a bit of crunch.

Ming Kee Live Seafood-30.jpg
Hainanese Chicken (Half- P480 +5% service charge)

The Hainanese chicken was just OK and we had better ones in other Chinese restaurants.

Ming Kee Live Seafood-29.jpg
Since the serving sizes of the dishes are good for sharing, it’s best to go here with a group of friends or your family.

Ming Kee Live Seafood-3.jpg
Beyond the Crab Beehon, Sambal Fried Rice, Deep-fried Fish Skins, and Homemade Beancurd, there isn’t really anything else that’s noteworthy at MING KEE

The ambiance of the place is a little plain and the live seafood pricing is a bit expensive. So make sure to order the right dishes and go with a group to maximize the experience. Budget about P1,300/head.

Check out Ming Kee while they’re on soft opening. It’s a good option if you’d like to try authentic Singaporean Chinese food without the crowd.

  1. We dined last night and I think they better fix the efficiency of your kitchen and staff. We waited TWO LONG HOURS and the food that was served was only fried rice, soup and fried mushroom. Ryan, the asst manager was blaming the POS. Its not our fault anymore. What really made me angry was that the table that just came 15 minutes before we left, was served first. I couldnt take it anymore so I asked for the bill and just pay whatever we consumed. And they even had the guts to charge us service charge for this very awful service. Ryan and the girl manager was not even apologetic. They listened to my complain and took it as if it was a normal situation. I am paging the owners to please look into this or else people will just walk away and never come back.
