BLOSOMEX: “2015 is the Year of Online Video!” – Mark Wiens (Don’t miss on Aug. 8)

Mark Wiens is one of the top food travel bloggers based in Bangkok. He is the Chief Chowzter in Bangkok as part of the Foodie Hub TV Network.

He shares his latest travel meals on migrationology.com, everything about Thai food on eatingthaifood.com, and publishes food and travel videos on YouTube with over 200,000+ subscribers www.youtube.com/user/migrationology

He is set to keynote the first Blogging and Social Media Summit (BLOSOMEX) this Saturday August 8 at WOFEX, Function Room 3, 2nd Floor, SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City.

I interviewed him to give a preview on why you should not miss his keynote this weekend:

1). What works now on the internet in 2015 and beyond?

There are many things that work and there has never been so much opportunity to reach and connect with such a huge worldwide audience, or a highly focused audience.

2015 is the year of online video. While online video has been popular for many years, due to the development of social media and the wider prevalence of mobile devices and better internet speeds, this is the year when video is really expanding, both with viewers and creators. In my opinion, as an online business or blogger, video must be a part of your social strategy

I also think blogging is still just as important as it has been in the last 10 years and will continue to be in the future. However, gone are the days when you can type a few words and add a photo and click publish. In order to succeed as a blogger in 2015 and beyond, you need to publish high-quality content that provides real value to readers.

2). If you have someone who is entering the blog or online business today, what will be your advice?

Choose a subject or niche that you are passionate about, and then do everything you can to be the go-to expert online about that subject.

After creating high-quality content that will provide value to your readers, it’s also important to promote your content via social media, e-mail outreach, and any other creative ways you can think of. Find ways to get your content recognized by the right people, so it doesn’t just get buried online.

Finally, try new things. Sometimes you’re just not sure what will work, but you should try different formats, test designs and styles, and sometimes you’ll find something that will work that you never thought would.

3). What is the biggest thing you learned from building your blog

Building a blog is about helping other people – whether that be helping them start a blog, learning to create a video, have a meal at delicious restaurant, or have a travel experience.

A personal travel journal is great (and if that’s your purpose, that’s great), but if you really want to build and grow a blog, no matter what the subject is, it has to provide value in an honest way to people.

4). How do you build subscribers in You Tube

YouTube is a social video platform, and in my opinion one of the best ways to build an audience is to be on camera yourself. Many of the channels on YouTube with the biggest audiences gained so many subscribers because of their personalities. And the great thing is, everyone has their own unique personality, and though it may take some practice, everyone can be on camera.

Also, one of the keys to growing your subscribers is to consistently publish videos on a set schedule (and make your schedule publicly known on your channel, such as new videos every Monday and Friday). Finally, in your videos simply ask your viewers to take action and click subscribe for more videos.

5). How do you monetize your blog

My biggest source of income from my blog is through selling travel and food eBooks.  Additionally I earn income from affiliate commissions through things like hotel recommendations, travel insurance, and travel guides, and web related recommendations like wordpress blog themes and web hosting.
