HARRY’S Cafe de Wheels: “Sydney’s Best Pie” in Nuvali (A Review)

Harry’s Cafe de Wheels in Nuvali is the first franchise in Asia (outside Australia) of Sydney’s popular beef pie and hotdog place. It’s one of the unique establishments that opened recently in Solenad 3 at Nuvali, Laguna.

We tried it despite the mixed reviews and here’s what we think of Harry’s…

HARRY’S CAFE DE WHEELS
Home of Sydney’s iconic meat pie and hotdogs, also offers all-day breakfasts, poutine, country style chicken, desserts and a lot of heart warming meals.

Harry’s is located at the new sprawling outdoor mall Solenad 3 in Nuvali where the cinema just opened.

Harry’s Menu: Pies, Dogs | Poutine, Brekkie, Soup, Pasties ‘n’ Roll, Beverages, Sides | Desserts, Shakes, Add-Ons | Drinks

You order from a self-service counter and you wait until your number is called.

The restaurant’s diner ambiance is inspired by its food truck origins in Sydney.

They have an open kitchen where you can see them create the pies from scratch onsite.

I like the long picnic table set up with a view of the Solenad 3 gardens.

★ Chili Dogs (P270). #SydneysBestDog Viennese smoked, sheep-cased frankfurt with fresh spicy chilli con and sriracha.

The hotdog itself is long and slim with a smoky taste and a snap when you bite it.

The bread itself is very soft that it is difficult to hold it and bite into it. Best to slice it with the plastic pork and enjoy the bits of chili.

★ Hot Dog de Wheels (P290). Viennese Smoked, Sheep-cased Frankfurt with Mushy Peas, Chilli Con Carne & Cheese and Sriracha.

The de Wheels version is topped with additional mushy peas and creamy cheese sauce.

The hot dog is a bit spicy already, but you can add HP sauce, tomato ketchup or more sriracha sauce if you prefer.

★ Chunder Chowder (P120). Hearty and creamy soup full of fresh clams and potatoes

This was surprisingly good! The chowder soup was light, tasty and best eaten with a piece of the inside of the bread.

Smash’N Pumpk’n Soup (P90). Rich and thick soup made with pumpkin puree loaded with flavor.

My mother-in-law loved this and I like that they have light soup options that everyone can enjoy.

Drinks: Ginger Beer (P130) and Arvo Iced Tea (20 oz – P60).

Their iced tea is brewed fresh and not too sweet.

Bondi Brekkie (P260). Big breakfast with heaps of protein, Canadian ham, egg, sheep-cased Frankfurt and mashed potatoes with Harry’s special gravy and pepper rice.

The boys liked just the hot dog itself without the chili. A better value option because you get ham, rice and egg.

Harry's Cafe de Wheels-25.jpg
Chilli Con Poutine (P125). Freshly cut spuds with feta cheese and cheese sauce with Harry’s special gravy topped with chunked and minced beef with Harry’s traditional chilli con sauce.

The fries were a bit oily and not anymore crunchy.

Harry's Cafe de Wheels-31.jpg
Fish Market + Chipy Chips (P165). Battered Alaskan Pollock, freshly cut spuds, sauer kraut and white sauce with capers.

The fried fish fillet was also not as good. Learning: Avoid ordering the fried stuff.

Harry's Cafe de Wheels-38.jpg
★ Tiger Pie (P220). #HarrysSignatureDish Traditional chunky lean beef filling with fresh button mushroom in Harry’s signature brown sauce, mushy peas, and mashed potato.

We like the beef pie itself with tender chunks of beef and their special brown sauce. There’s nothing special about the mushy peas and mashed potato.

Overall, it’s a good quick dinner option in Nuvali specially if you are catching a movie in the cinemas. Service is a bit slow but we did not have any problems with the food.

Order the Chili dog or Hotdog de Wheels for more toppings.  It was a bit expensive for a hot dog and a bit messy to eat. The pies are worth the try and the classic beef pie is good already with no need for the extra toppings.

Budget about P350/head.

There’s a novelty in eating Sydney’s favorite pies and hotdogs this Christmas season before they open in BGC and other locations.

P.S. You could out the pies for your next potluck party or gathering at home.

P.P.S. They should re-install the door that separates the baking kitchen from the restroom ASAP.
