Casetta del Divino Zelo: Secret Italian Resto by Italian Nun in Tagaytay! (A Review)

Casetta del Divino Zelo-21.jpg

Casetta del Divino Zelo is an Italian pizza and pasta place in Silang, Cavite operated by the Daughters of Divine Zeal.

I got a foodie tip back in 2014 about this small place with huts, serving pizza and tiramisu by an Italian Nun.

Now was the only time we are able to visit it and here’s what we think about this secret Italian resto in Tagaytay…

CASETTA del DIVINO ZELO
Km 47 Emilio Aguinaldo Highway Lalaan 1, Silang, Cavite
(just outside Ilog Maria’s Honeybee Farm)
Opens every Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday 10.00am to 5.30pm

You order from a limited menu of pizza, pasta, and Italian dessert choices.

Mother Isabella, the Italian nun who heads the Casetta del Divino Zelo, continues to cook in the kitchen upon your order.

The place has an al fresco ambiance. It’s just like dining in your auntie’s kitchen.

You can check out the artisan store for pasalubong to bring home.

You can see the nuns cook the pizza in their custom-built brick oven. They serve the pizza hot direct from the oven.

You can continue to eat in the small huts for a more garden ambiance. Make sure to spray mosquito repellant.

There is a 9am? Sunday Mass at Maria Madre delle Vocazioni Chapel every first and third Sunday.

Marinara (P235)

I like this simple seafood pasta with olive oil. It’s clean tasting with home cooked goodness.

Casetta del Divino Zelo-26.jpg
Lasagna (P250)

The lasagna looks plain but is really good. Sometimes we prefer a no frills experience and just enjoy the food.

Casetta del Divino Zelo-29.jpg
Prosciuto con Arugula Pizza (Family Size – P570)

The pizza is big–good enough for 3-5 people–and sliced in a square manner. The pizza is still hot when served and I like how its chewy in the middle and crusty on the outside.

Casetta del Divino Zelo-32.jpg
Bolognese (P175)

Classic Italian pasta–not sweet with a more tomato taste.

You can order additional bread, which they also make onsite.

Casetta del Divino Zelo-35.jpg
All Cheese Pizza (P250)

Sometimes the simplest ingredients in the pizza are the best.

Casetta del Divino Zelo-37.jpg
The restaurant supports the Tahanang Divino Zelo, which is a Mother and Child Care shelter for unwanted pregnancies, where mothers get to keep their baby and have a productive life after.

The desserts are also simple Italian baked treats.

Casetta del Divino Zelo-39.jpg
Tiramisu (P95/slice). Italian cake and dessert.

They are known for their Italian tiramisu. It’s not too sweet, just the right moist consistency, and a good way to end the meal.

Casetta del Divino Zelo-40.jpg
Ciambella Cake (P25/slice). Lemon Cake.

The lemon cake was a bit dry.

You’ll love Cassette del Divino Zelo, especially if you’re looking for a no-frills and simple but a hearty dining experience. It’s a great place to eat when you visit Tagaytay.

I recommend the All Cheese Pizza, the Bolognese/Marinara, and the Tiramisu to end with. Budget P400/head.

  1. Doesn’t seem to have enough or any mascarpone. Does it contain marsala wine? Authentic? I think not.

    1. food purist you are. give the sisters a break. they are in business to support their charity. do visit them and try their food. chill

      1. Yes I am a food purist. This is a food blog, isn’t it? Doesn’t matter who made the product or where the proceeds are going just do it right and people will buy and eat the food. The customer will probably be more pleased with the finished product if it is prepared properly. Looks like you smelled something bad in your picture?

  2. I’d like to confirm the time of the mass as I intend to hear mass first having lunch in their resto.
Is it really 9pm every first and third Saturday of the month? or 9 am?
Thank you, been in that restaurant already and this is my second time this time am bringing my family to have a taste of their authentic Italian food

    1. yes you are right that it should be 9am but there’s no way I can reconfirm this.

There’s no information on this anywhere and only way to confirm is by visiting.

  3. wow, i just happened to opened these comments.. I have a check myself about the authenticity of the ingredients. Yes, yes yes… there is true marsala wine and mascarpone…

  4. thank you so much for patronizing their products. after a year of lockdown, the sisters got back to new normal operation. you can also visit their souvenir shop filled with new items (fashion and garment accessories, bags, others) which are crafted by themselves through their center for women empowerment in Marikina (another convent of the sisters). Most of their products are on display (limited version) but you can place order for some… you just have to inquire if they have stocks on it.

By buying their products, you help support pregnant women in crisis (Silang) and the skills training center for women in Marikina. Thank you…
