XO Kitchen, Manila – I Love the XO but not the Kitchen yet…

I absolutely love XO, which is an eXtra Ordinary chili sauce with yummy bits of scallops and other secret stuff. One of the reasons we go to Chinese restaurants in hotels is that you can order unlimited servings of XO! We also love the XO Sauce created by Claude Tayag — it’s one of the … Continue reading XO Kitchen, Manila – I Love the XO but not the Kitchen yet…

THE Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao (Now – Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight)

Chinese chefs from Singapore preparing the dimsum for Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao. Finally, THE Crystal Jade that foodies are raving about in Hong Kong and Singapore is now in the Philippines! No, it’s not the old Crystal Jade in old Greenbelt; to distinguish itself, the restaurant’s name indicates its Shanghainese specialties — … Continue reading THE Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao (Now – Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight)

6404 Camia – The Secret Chinese Restaurant

I got lost when I first came here. There were no signs outside because it’s just a simple house converted into a restaurant. Ivan Henares introduced us to this place through his blog post entitled, Manila: You Jie Xiao Chao Chinese restaurant near Rockwell.

TAO YUAN – Best Singaporean Food in Manila as Attested by the Singaporean Embassy

Read: 10 Most Awesome Chinese Restaurants in Manila! I received a lot of raves from the Chinese community about this popular restaurant in Malate called Tao Yuan. Originally, they were only serving Hong Kong Cantonese dishes but when they brought in the Singaporean chefs, the word of mouth about their Hainanese Chicken spread like wildfire among … Continue reading TAO YUAN – Best Singaporean Food in Manila as Attested by the Singaporean Embassy

Makansutra Disappointment…

I was super excited to try Makansutra Asian Food Village at the 2nd Floor of Manila Ocean Park. Ever since our family’s Singapore food trip (see: Singapore Makan Food Trip – My Top 10 Favorites! and Singapore Makan Food that did not make the cut), I was craving for authentic Makan cuisine here in Manila.
I have very high expectations because the food stall is owned and managed by KF Seetoh, the author and founder of the Singapore food bible – Makansutra. I must admit OAP was inspired by it.
I was disappointed.

Ying Ying, the new “President” in Binondo

Until now, I can’t believe that the President Restaurant in Binondo closed down. It was a foodie institution and President was THE Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. The rumor in the foodie community is that the head chef of President transferred to Ying Ying Tea House Restaurant. (Can anybody confirm this?) Ying Ying Restaurant is now becoming the new “President” in Binondo.

Choi Garden – A Chinese Restaurant Worth Raving About

Our family loves chinese food. On my father’s birthday, I reserved this special chinese restaurant — Choi Garden in Annapolis Greenhills. It is seldom that you hear a buzz on Chinese restaurants. Most people rave about Choi Garden because of the food prepared by their Hongkong Chef and the interesting interiors.

Kiong Hee Huat Tsai is Happy New Year in Binondo

Binondo Chinese New Year

It was my first time in Binondo during this celebration and I avoided it in the past because I don’t know what to do in Binondo or what to expect. There is that occasional fear of pick pockets and feeling of being an outsider trying-hard-to-celebrate-the-New-Year that prevented me from experiencing the Binondo Chinese New Year! … Check out their post on the Chinese New Year @ Binondo: KUNG HEI FAT CHOI by Sidney’s My Sari Sari Store Kiong Hee Huat Chai!
