Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival is an international music arts and festival set amidst the tropical gardens of Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. The festival grounds are situated at the foothills of Mt. Malasimbo where the grass-terraced amphitheater overlooks one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
This year for their 5th anniversary, they are bringing in two weekend of festivities: The Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival on March 6-8 and The Malasimbo Lights & Dance Festival on March 13-15.
Malasimbo is a top attraction in the Department of Tourism’s campaign, “Visit the Philippines Year 2015.” It is known for its local and international artists, awe-breathtaking landscape, and unique ecological programs. The festival continues to grow into a global phenomenon, with more than 5,000 people from over 30 countries in attendance in 2014.
Here are our top 5 reasons why you should take part in Malasimbo’s 5th year…
#5 The Beautiful Malasimbo Venue
One of their biggest assets is their Natural Amphitheater below the mystical Mt. Malasimbo.
I love how we could sit on the grass-terraced amphitheater overlooking the moon and the stars. There are no VIP sections and guests can freely roam around the grounds. You’d also be surprised that the artists themselves mingle and blend in with the crowd.
#4 The Visual Arts
(Giant Dandelions by Olivia d’Aboville)
The grounds have been beautifully blessed with the works of talented contemporary artists mostly local artist but attracting foreign artists as well.
(Pigeon Hole by Hiyas Bagabaldo)
More than 40 artists including Agnes Arellano, Wai Navarozza, Ling Quisumbing Ramilo and Leeroy New have used the grounds as a canvas for their art installations.
(Don’t feed the natives by Russ Ligtas)
As a 5th year anniversary special, they have invited over 30 artists that will showcase their works. All works are made to synergize with the mountain, the landscape, the wind, the ocean or the festival’s creative energy.
#3 The Malasimboat Party
Enjoy 4 hours of partying on a boat. Dance through the beats of the DJ as you slide, dive, jump and eat grilled hotdogs and burgers complimented by the stunning sunset.
The water slide is perfect for a fun dive in the sea.
#2 World Class Party
The Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival would not be complete without it’s awesome line-up of performers. The most anticipated is Ky-Mani Marley, the son of Bob Marley. The festival will be divided into two weeks March 6-8 and March 13-15 promising an organic and magical experience.
Here are the line-up and ticket prices for the first week of the festival:
In celebrating its 5th year, Malasimbo proudly presents an entirely new concept buzzing among the youth: The Malasimbo Lights & Dance Festival. It caters to a specifically targeted market – the millennials -with a focus on hip-hop, house, and electronic music, enhanced with amazing dance performances and state of the art light shows.
#1 Eco-cultural activities
Besides the festivals, Malasimbo is also known for it’s eco-cultural activities. The d’Aboville Foundation, along with the festival helps promote mangrove planting, the use of solar energy, the protection of the endangered tamaraw and coastal cleanups.
There are 7 Mangyan tribes in Mindoro. Each tribe features a permanent demo Mangyan life-size houses representing their rich culture and beautiful crafts.
