Walang Aray, PETA’s hit comedy musical, is back with fresh punchlines, extra cheesy kilig, and a musical variety-style spectacle that will keep you laughing for two and a half hours. The 2025 edition feels even better—timely, witty, and perfectly in tune with the current events and Gen Z love storylines of today. Our tip? Skip the reviews and just experience it yourself. But here’s what we think about Walang Aray 2025…

This modern zarzuela tells the timeless love story of Julia and Tenyong, star-crossed lovers torn apart by colonial oppression, family ambition, and the Philippine Revolution. WALANG ARAY 2025 & THE NEW CAST

Rebolusyon.

Yes, we are in the midst of a revolution in modern-day Manila, set against the lavish excesses of corrupt congressmen and senators. One spark and civil war could erupt in the city—or worse, if China invades Taiwan, we may find ourselves in a World War III scenario. Walang Aray strikes a chord as it recalls how the Katipunan fought back against the Spanish regime. More than 120 years later, our own government officials remain shamelessly, even outrageously, corrupt. Theater has the power to awaken both the hearts and minds of Filipinos.

2025 Context.

Nakakatawa ang musical because it cleverly weaves in scenes of sabungeros being executed and Flood Control contractors flaunting their cars and lavish lifestyles. It hits home—because even if it’s nakakasuka, you can’t help but laugh at how the sarswela mirrors the 2025 context. The Philippines remains trapped in a cycle of corruption, with many families dreaming of emigrating from Manila, just like in the 1970s. It’s heartbreaking, yet for a moment, we manage to laugh at our own predicament.

Pampakilig.

It’s a theatrical rom-com, and the writers did an amazing job weaving in cheesy lines across the four love teams in the play. They were so clever that even the sponsor spiels were seamlessly integrated into the story. And while English translations are flashed on screen, nothing truly beats Filipino humor and those witty, romantic hirits.

Prayle.

The best si Padre Alfaro sa mga malulutong na mura, hip-hop rapping his lines, and devilishly cool performance. Ang saya ng mga eksena, and this is the only performance I remember from the 2023 show—and the 2025 version was a lot better. Congrats mga Prayle!

New Cast

So excited to watch Walang Aray again with its fresh new cast! It’s star-studded, offering fresh interpretations of the comedy while adding powerful voices to the musical ensemble.

Jolina.

Ang galing palang kumanta at umarte ni Jolina, with such comedic conviction—you can really see how much she enjoyed playing Juana, Julia’s mom. Ang hirap nga namang maging nanay kung may pasaway kang anak at kailangang turuan ang puso na umibig ng iba. It’s always a treat to have a star-studded cast that the Gen X generation can truly relate to.

Ice Ice Seguera.

Ice as Lucas was quite convincing, and magaganda yung mga kanta for his role. Although he appeared in the later part of the show to highlight another love storyline, the nakakatawang mga eksena made it worth the wait. Best to catch the show with Ice Seguerra in the role para sulit!

FINAL THOUGHTS

Congratulations to PETA’s Walang Aray for a successful and timely comeback to Manila’s theater scene!

I love the well-thought-out cast, the updated storylines and hirits, and the perfectly timed comedic choreography in every scene. What’s brilliant is how the sarswela within a sarswela reflects our own reality—that sometimes, the best way to cope with all the corruption and craziness of daily life in Manila is simply to sing and laugh your way through your own sarswela.
