A food craze in Manila is never complete without the imported original versions opening up in Manila shores.
The Mochi craze in Manila was started by Dezato (Read: Dezato Cafe – Home of the Yummy Mochi) and thenMochi Ice Cream was popularized by Mochiko when Mercato Centrale opened in 2010.
Ever since then there has been a lot of Mochi offerings around the Metro and finally, an authentic mochi brand from the leading Japanese Mochi Deli opened recently – the Japanese Sweets Deli MOCHI CREAM.
Here are our Mochi Cream favorites:
These Japanese Mochi treats are imported frozen from Japan. We love the unique flavor combinations ranging from P75-P90 per mochi except for orange cream and apple pie flavors priced at P100.
We tasted the initial 24 Mochi Cream Flavors and our top 3 favorites are:
- Raspberry Mille Feuille (because of the crunchy filling)
- Caramel Macchiato (if you like coffee-flavored desserts)
- Orange Cheese (Cheese Mochi!)
The mochi has three layers: the outer mochi, the inner flavor, and the cream as the core.
Each layer would have its own flavor and uses a patented process to be able to integrate it.
It is best eaten thawed for 15 minutes in room temperature so that it is soft and chewy.
It is different from the local ones because it does not use ice cream per se, and it resembles a chewy mochi donut.
Each piece is quite filling. The boys loved the Mango, Chocolate Banana and White Chocolate.
(Note: The kids did not like the Japanese flavors – Sakura, Darjeeling, and Red Bean)
The Gift Box of 1 dozen mochi costs about P1,050. You have to choose between two combinations:

You can also get it in Special Gift Box Sets of half dozen (P550) in pre-selected sets:

Get your Japanese Mochi Cream from Rustan’s Rockwell and Rustan’s Makati Supermarket. They also have stalls in SM’s The Block, The Podium, Robinson’s Magnolia, and SM Fairview.
Hope they have a full blown Mochi Cafe soon like the ones in Japan.
Overall, we like the unique flavors and the super softness of the mochi. It was actually quite filling and you’ll feel the heaviness after eating 3 mochis.
If you plan to buy by the dozen or half dozen, it is best to select the flavors. Some of the Japanese flavors are too “foreign” for the Filipino taste.

P.S. It’s better than the Ice Cream Mochi because the inside doesn’t melt and it is just as creamy. You have to keep it frozen until it is ready to be eaten. Although, we still like the ice cream mochi at times when you really like to eat ice cream-on- the-go with chewy mochi.
these mochis look a bit bigger than what I usually see.. like Mochiko’s mochi for example, its only as big as a Dunkin Donut Munchkin… are these twice as big? if it is then its very much worth it, I remember mochiko costs around 75-80php each..
They are the same size, but the mochi cream becomes smaller like soft pillows when thawed.
We loved the Green Tea flavor. They recently opened a stall in SM Megamal Building A 🙂
This and Dezato are the favorite mochi makers for us in Manila. We feel that the creftsmanship of the sticky rice layer is what sets these two apart. Others just seem to have a thin film where the bean or the ice cream just oozes out upon biting, therefore relying heavily on it being eaten cold and not safe for transport in the how Manila weather.
My fave would be the apple pie. We have them here at The Podium, 5th floor!
