Schmidt’s serves the best hotdogs in town, with different variations inspired by the famous hotdog flavors around the world! Our favorite hotdogs are Wagamama and Coney Island.
We first discovered them when Cucina Andare opened last December. 🙂 They’ve outlived the other hotdog food stalls in the market, and continue to satisfy any foodie wherever they go.
Congratulations for winning the #6 spot in the Main Dish category at Ultimate Taste Test XI!
The Story of SCHMIDT’S Gourmet Hotdogs
It was just an idea that my friend and I were playing around with when we were in New Zealand. You see, we studied culinary and worked there for almost 2 years. We were so amazed at how diverse their culture is. So when we came back last Sept. 2012, we thought of opening up a small-scale business. The most difficult part is actually trying to come up with a product that Filipinos would love. We had a lot of ideas like burgers, burritos, sandwiches, etc. The problem with these choices was that they were all part of a very saturated market. We didn’t want to be one of those burger joints or sandwich places that would open up then be gone from people’s minds just as fast. We didn’t want that to happen to us. We want to give people something new, something that is still untapped in the marketplace. So we decided to open up Schmidt’s.
When you think about it, aside from Santis and Poco Deli, no one is really into the gourmet hotdogs business. We only have Smokey’s and Tender Juicy franchises. What makes us different is that we fused those franchises with the former to make something worth coming back to.
At the moment, we only offer hotdog sandwiches that are inspired from cultures all over the world. From New York’s Coney Island Chili Dog, Japan’s Wagamama, and all the way down to New Zealand’s Aucklander. Aside from the flavors that we are currently offering, we still have some more that we plan to release one at a time. Examples of these are the Buldogi (Korean inspired) and the Hangover (based from Thailand’s unique flavors).
