Chef Cecille Chang of Thai at Silk is back with SILK ROAD, the latest in Modern Thai Food dining in BGC. Hailed as the Queen of Thai Cuisine in Manila, she just came back from a year of culinary study in Thailand to introduce modern Thai dishes and her own signature recipes.
Here’s what to expect from SILK ROAD and our own recommendations…
Silk Road is located at the ground floor of the Net Quad building, behind this installation art.
It’s at the former location of the Frank Provost Studio, in the Deutsche Bank building (in front of Kuppa).
The place adopts a modern Thai dining feel, with a casual Asian ambiance during lunch and a lounge feel at night.
We ate at the 2nd floor private room with our food blogger friends.
SILK ROAD MENU: Soup & Starter | Starter & Salad | Curries, Fried, Stir Fries and More | Fried, Stir Fries and More (continuation) | Steak, Vegetables, Noodles | Rice | Something Sweet
DRINKS: White Wines | Champagne & Sparkling Wine | Red Wines | White Wines by the Glass & Bottle | Chef Cecille’s Private Selection | Martini’s, Cosmopolitan’s, Cocktails, Alcohol Free – Mocktails, Thai Cocktails | Vodka, Whisky, Single Malt Whisky, Rum, Gin, Bourbon, Brandy, Beers, Liquers, Soda’s, Juices & Shakes, Bottled Water, Coffee & Tea
MIENG KHAM (P195 +10% service charge). Traditional Thai appetizer, be adventurous and give it a try!
This is the signature appetizer to try — an explosion of Thai flavors wrapped in betel leaves. This is only for the adventurous because of the bitter leafy aftertaste.
FRAGRANCE (P290 +10% service charge). Vodka – Midori – Lemon Juice – Pineapple Juice – Sugar Syrup. Garnish: Lemon Wedges
This is the favorite cocktail of the chef, a refreshing aperitif to prepare your tummy for the Thai flavors.
PRAWN CAKES (P295 +10% service charge). With sweet chili sauce & caramelized tamarind puree.
These prawn cakes are cooked well, soft on the inside with a good prawn bite and a crusty cover. Make sure to eat while hot. 🙂
✮ THAI RAVIOLI (P330 +10% service charge). Freshly made steamed rice paper, sesame beef, shitake mushroom. A must have to start your meal!
Thai Ravioli is a signature creation of the chef. It’s beef and shitake mushrooms wrapped dumpling style but in lumpia form, topped with vegetables and flakes. This is a unique appetizer you should definitely order.
✮ MOULES THAI (P320+10% service charge). Cold water mussels in Thai herbs and coconut milk…Thai version of Moules Marinieres! A French favorite!
Chilean Mussels in a creamy Thai-inspired broth with Thai herbs and coconut milk, minus the wine used in a traditional French mussel dish.
FOIE GRAS MAKHAM (P585 +10% service charge). Melts in your mouth, pan seared with a marriage of sweet and salty kaffir tamarind puree.
It’s sinfully creamy, melts in your mouth, made richer with a sweet tamarind sauce. Too rich for me.
Always fun to try out new food with equally adventurous foodies.
✮ PAD THAI (P340 +10% service charge). Rice noodles, pork, shrimps, egg and bean sprouts.
This is our favorite dish from Thai at Silk, with Chef Cecille’s signature egg net presentation.
Chef Cecille showed us how to mix it. First, you break open the center of the egg net, then mix in all the ingredients and nuts served on the banana leaf. Mix from the center going out.
You can add chili or sugar to taste. But the Pad Thai is already good by itself.
BLACK PEPPER SOFT SHELL CRAB (P395 +10% service charge). With tomatoes, onions, spring onions. Our Pride!
I never liked soft shell crab, but this one is very soft, with just the right crunch and chili pepper taste.
✮ CRISPY TILAPA (P75/100g). With Tamarind Puree.
This is a personal favorite of Chef Cecille’s, fried and cooked with the tamarind puree so you can really taste the flavor all over the fish. Sarap to the bones!
THAI MILK TEA (P130 +10% service charge).
To refresh your palate, order the Thai Iced Tea, which is sweet and milky.
✮ LAMB SHANK MASSAMAN (P120 per 100g +10% service charge). Slow-cooked for 8 hours, served with crispy noodles, sweet potato chips, and shallots.
I love this! Very soft lamb shank with Thai Curry Massaman flavors and Thai herbs. 🙂
✮ US RIB-EYE STEAK (P980 +10% service charge). 8oz coriander and garlic rubbed angus steak char-grilled to perfection, served with papaya salad and roasted rice chili sauce. An Isan dish! food for your imagination…
I didn’t know that the Isan region of Thailand had steak as part of their cuisine. The meat is rubbed with coriander and Thai herbs, which provide an interesting twist to the flavor of this steak. Good value for its size.
It also has its signature sauce of Thai herbs and spices. ‘Di nakakasuya.
SILK ROAD SIGNATURE RICE (P330 +10% service charge). Mixed vegetables, lemongrass, egg, pork crispies, and Thai chorizo.
If you are tired of the usual Bagoong Rice, order this signature dish which resembles Yang Chow, but with a lemongrass flavor and Thai chorizo.
✮ PATPONG RICE (P305 +10% service charge). Roasted chili jam, crispy fish, string beans, and basil.
For chili lovers, I recommend this Patpong Rice!
✮ SIAMESE PORK RIBS. (P310 +10% service charge). Smoking hot! Grilled cinnamon-caramel pork ribs.
This is how we like our ribs — tender meat falling off the bones. You can taste the sweet, grilled cinnamon-caramel flavor in every strand of meat. Served on a personal charcoal grill for added effect. 🙂
TAKHOO THAI (P190 +10% service charge). Tapioca pearl pudding topped with coconut custard.
A good classic Thai dessert served in mini-bowls instead of a banana cup.
DURIAN ICE CREAM (P180 +10% service charge). Deliciously creamy.
For durian lovers, check out the Durian Ice Cream which tastes like creamy frozen durian. 🙂
Overall, I love SILK ROAD‘s modern bistro vibe, serving traditional Thai favorites like Pad Thai, but also offering contemporary dishes like Foie Gras and US Rib-Eye Steak with Thai herbs and flavors. I personally like the Thai Ravioli, Lamb Shank Massaman, and Siamese Pork Ribs.
Although the different rice offerings are interesting, it’s always better to pair the already flavorful dishes with just plain rice. It’s nice that Thai cocktails are available.
Budget is about P700/head. Most of the serving sizes of the dishes are big enough to share.
Congrats to Chef Cecille Chang for offering modern Thai dining in BGC! 🙂

P.S. What’s your favorite dish at SILK ROAD?
Is this like the thai silk that closed in serendra?
YES, from the same original owner. Thai silk closed down when Chef Cecille left and went on a 1 year culinary studies in Thailand.
