THE SMOKING JOINT: Low & Slow Barbecue from the South (A Review)

The Smoking Joint-29.jpg

THE SMOKING JOINT is an American BBQ neighborhood joint by Tony Fernando in collaboration with Chef Dino Dizon. It used to be a Knuckle Sandwich Shop by the same owner which is a boxing-themed sandwich shop located along Aguirre Avenue in BF (near Puregold).

We are getting addicted to smoked low and slow meats specially after a football game with the kids in Alabang. Here is what we think about The Smoking Joint…

The Smoking Joint-2.jpg

The restaurant opens at 4.20pm on weekdays which is a reference to a code for hanging out to “smoke”.

The ambiance is simple with black table and wooden stools and a lot of pun-intended designs.

The meats are smoked in this customized smoker for 10-12 hours with charcoal and bao.

The service is very considerate and they give you gloves so that you can use your hands and a bucket for the bones.

★ Chichabacon and Cheese Burger (P250). 1/3 pound well seasoned all beef smoked burger patty, flame grilled, garlic aioli, Salanova lettuce, onions, cheese sauce, crispy beef bacon bits, pretzel bun. Served with garlic potato wedges

The burger patty is smoked and I like the Salanova lettuce sticking out of the bun, with topping of garlic mayo sauce. The crunchy chicharon bacon bits made a lot of difference to make this burger enjoyable.

★ Full Ribs (P950). The meat is tender, falls off from the bones and really tasty without additional sauce. Our ribs were  a bit burnt but still good 🙂 I like the weaved presentation of the ribs which adds up to the excitement in eating it.

The full ribs platter was big enough to satisfy the appetite of our growing boys.

★ Brisket (100g – P190).

The beef brisket was sliced thin, and disappointingly bland. Add some of the BBQ sauce or request for the spicy one to enjoy this.

SIDES:★ Mac ‘n’ cheese (P100), ★ Coleslaw (P35), ★ Jalapeño Corn Muffin (3 pcs. – P100).

All the side dishes are really good. The coleslaw is sliced thinly but with just the right amount of sauce.

The Mac ‘n’ Cheese is super cheesy just the way I like it.

You can really taste the flavors for Jalapeño which adds an interesting twist to this corn muffin flavor.

The ribs were wiped out in a few minutes! Everybody enjoyed it 🙂

Overall, we love The Smoking Joint ribs and the side dishes of Mac ‘n’ cheese, Coleslaw, and Jalapeño Corn Muffin!  The brisket was a disappointment and we should not have accepted a burnt ribs, but it was still good.

I would also recommend the Chichabacon and Cheese Burger as an alternative and which you can take on the go.

Highly recommended after playing sports or enjoying a BBQ lunch with friends during the weekend. Budget about P500/head
