EDSA Shangri-La Manila is one of the lifestyle oases in the middle of the urban jungle in the Mandaluyong/Ortigas area. It’s a great home base for a staycation weekend with the family in the northern part of the metro.
Here’s a guide on what to do during your staycation at Edsa Shangri-La Hotel…

TOWER WING PREMIER (ROOM #1109)
We stayed in a 45 sqm premier room located in the corner of Tower Wing, with a queen sized and an extra bed.
My blogging spot with the glass executive writing desk, high-speed wireless internet, and magnificent view of the Ortigas skyline.
The bathroom is spacious with a bathtub, separate shower cubicle, and toilet.
Shangri-La is one of the hotels that produces their own line of high-quality toiletries.
The cabinets are equipped with iron, ironing board, hair dryer, bathrobes, see-through drawers, and a full-size safety deposit box.
Nice welcome treats: fruits, cookies, nuts, and funky monkey–milk chocolate with marshmallows and crispies designed by Rajo Laurel.
HEAT BREAKFAST
The breakfast scene gets busy around 9 am until about 10.30am when it ends.
Reserve our favorite spot in this red couch table, which is adjacent to the buffet.
Start with some hot seafood ramen to get your body going during breakfast.
The dimsum choices are just OK (hakaw is only served on Sundays).
It’s never too early in the day to enjoy good Japanese sushi and maki.
Get these burrata balls for your bread.
The HEAT breakfast showcases a number of Filipino favorites.
You can enjoy all kinds of longganisa from different regions of the country, which changes every day.
A popular item is the dried squid and danggit.
You can choose from beef or pork tapa.
They also have healthy juices and desserts that they can serve directly at your table…
…which have edible QR code chocolates that link you to The Voice customer satisfaction survey.
For something sweet, check out their French toasts, waffles, and pancakes.
Visit the honey station for your sweetening needs.
In the morning, there’s a magtataho who goes around the restaurant offering hot taho.
Filipino breakfast would not be complete without taho!
You can end your breakfast with a cup of Dilmah tea or Nespresso coffee.
EDSA SHANGRI-LA POOL OASIS
The pool is very inviting, surrounded by coconut trees. There are two sections here–the general 4 ft area, and the 9 ft area for adults only.
The boys like this water playground…
…and the slide in the kids’ pool.
It’s also cool to hang out by the poolside at night.
On Saturdays, there’s live acoustic music that surrounds the entire pool area.
You can also check out the Poolside Grill Menu only available on Saturday nights.
I love the variety of dinner options at Edsa Shangri-La depending on what kind of gathering or occasion you are celebrating:
HEAT’S MAD FOR LOBSTER (FRIDAY)
MAD FOR LOBSTER is an eat-all-you-can Lobster buffet feast every Friday night at Restaurant Heat at Edsa Shangri-La Hotel.

PAPARAZZI
PAPARAZZI is Edsa Shangri-La’s signature Italian Restaurant serving an iconic Bistecca Florentina with 1.2kg of Tuscany T-bone Steak from young grass-fed cows from Ireland.
We celebrated our anniversary at Paparazzi with our boys during our Edsa Shangri-La Staycation.

CHI SPA
After dinner, check out the Chi Spa (located at the back of the pool area) for a relaxing massage to end the day.
The massage rooms are located on the 4th floor. It can get a bit claustrophobic because it does not have any windows.
You can start the massage with a steam bath for 15 minutes.
Try their signature Philippine Hilot (60 mins – P3,200) characterized by long strokes and good pressure that will lull you to sleep.
SENJU SUNDAY BRUNCH
On Sunday, check out the Senju Japanese Sunday brunch before you check out.
It’s very popular so make sure to reserve a table and be there early when it starts.
There’s a wide assortment of Japanese sushi, maki, and sashimi.
My favorite is the teppanyaki station…
…where you can order beef teppanyaki…
…shrimp, and salmon teppanyaki.
Eat-all-you-can tempura is always a hit with the kids.
For dessert, there’s a good selection of ice cream, sliced cakes, fruits, and cotton candy.
I was impressed with the dining innovations, pool area, and awesome service throughout our staycation. Congrats to Edsa Shangri-La Manila!
