A traditional Argentinian steakhouse grill by Gastón Riveira in Buenos Aires, Argentina, La Cabrera is recognized as one of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2017. It opened its flagship store in Asia at 6750 Ayala Avenue Office Tower in 2014 and the second branch at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel end of 2018.
It’s one of our favorite steakhouses in Manila because of their charcoal-grilled steaks cooked over a traditional parrilla (iron grill). The best steak house in Mandaluyong City, it is the perfect place to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary!
Here are some tips on how to organize your own awesome celebrations at La Cabrera at Edsa Shangri-La…

First Things First
It was awesome to see a third party restaurant concept accepted by Edsa Shangri-La Hotel to replace the former Paparazzi Italian resto at the mezzanine level.
La Cabrera Menu: Entradas, Sopa, Pasta, Guarniciones, Ensaladas, Arroz | Grillados – Selected Prime Steaks, Traditional Cuts, Especiales | Postres Desserts, Coffee and Tea
Drinks Menu: Otras Bebidas | Bodega Lagarde Wines | Barone Ricasoli
You’ll love the romantic leather couch set-up where you can have your own little private corner.
Argentinian Cocinero Augustin Figueroa now heads the kitchen and ensures that the meats are charcoal-grilled to Gaston Riveira’s standards.
There is a private corner you can reserve for more privacy and a private room for your board meetings.
Starters
Provoleta (₱890). Grilled Provolone Cheese
Start with a grilled platter of chewy provolone cheese. Best to eat it while it is still hot.
Grilled Chicken (₱680). With Provolone Cheese and Tomatoes
They also do a nice charcoal-grilled chicken topped with melted provolone cheese and lots of diced tomatoes.
Chorizo Carbonara Linguini (₱650).
Linguini, Chorizo, Tomato and Parmesan Cheese in Creamy White Sauce
I love the thick creaminess of this carbonara with the salty chorizo to cut through the cheesy flavor.
Costillas de Cerdo con Barbacoa, Barbecue Baby Pork Ribs (₱1,720).
You can taste the barbecue flavor from the meat. Good to share slice by slice.
Asado Del Centro – Beef Short Ribs (500g -₱2,680).
I love eating the meat and cartilage off the rib bones which absorb the charcoal-grill flavor.
Charcoal-Grilled Steak
Cold Sides: Tomato Chutney, Relish Salad, Carrot Puree, Potato and Dill Dressing, Marbled Potato with Tartar Sauce, Ratatouille, Criolla Salsa, Tomato Capers and Parmesan Cheese, Grilled Vegetable, Roasted Garlic
As part of the La Cabrera tradition, a banchan of eat-all-you-can cold side dishes are served to stir up your appetite.
Hot Side Dishes: Spinach with Bechamel Sauce, Hot Mustard Sauce, Caramelized Garlic, Mashed Potato, BBQ Corn
Our favorites are the hot dishes specially the spinach, caramelized garlic and BBQ corn.
The steaks are served with breadcrumbs and garlic, criolla salsa made with red and green-yellow bell pepper and roasted garlic.
I like my steaks as is or with a bit of salt or Argentinian chimichurri sauce.
Lagarde Malbec 2015 (₱525/glass,₱2,595/bottle). (Vivino rating 3.9)
An elegant full bodied Malbec is just the perfect pairing for a good charcoal-grilled steak.
Ojo de Bife Rib Eye (500 g – ₱3,480).
The steak is cooked perfectly—not burnt with just the right grill marks and served as is, not basted with butter nor topped with sauce.
We love eating it from the middle (to appreciate its medium-cooked tenderness) before going out to the fatty edges.
Desserts
Rogel de Dulce de Leche (₱390).
Layers of biscuit and Argentine dulce de leche topped with meringue
Go for the traditional Argentinian desserts which are quite similar to our Spanish-influenced sweets.
Pavlova (₱390). Crisped Meringue, whipped cream and fruits
Since they just opened, I guess they are still stabilizing their pastry section and, hopefully, the desserts will get better when you go.
Final Thoughts
La Cabrera is our go-to place for steak in Manila because we love our meats to be just charcoal-grilled, no butter or additional sauces so we can appreciate the good quality of the steak.
I do hope they soon serve really good Argentinian or Bolzico Beef cooked on a parrilla and paired with a full-bodied Malbec to complete the Argentinian steak experience.
Congratulations to the lucky Carlo Lorenzana tandem and the La Cabrera Manila team for successfully opening the branch at Edsa Shangri-La Hotel, the best steakhouse in Mandaluyong!
