Kondwi is a two-level art space/cocktail lounge in Poblacion by artist Leeroy New and restaurateur Marvin Agustin. As its name—which means “conduit”—suggests, it’s designed to provide a fluid space where creatives, artists and passionate people can connect.

First Things First
I love how muted the facade is. Set in the middle of the residential side of Pobla, it’s a place only for people in the know.

Best to go at night after dining somewhere or watching theater to unwind with pica pica and alcohol.
Our favorites
I like my cocktail sour, not sweet, to enjoy every sip.
Start with some cigars of duck wrapped like lumpia.
Before ordering the oysters, ask the waiter where they come from and how fresh they are. If he or she has a hard time answering, don’t order.
Their most raved about skewer of pork cube topped with kangkong and radish slices with a sinigang asim-sarap taste.
For something light and healthy that can last the entire night.
As for something substantial, order the slices of roast duck that you can share and enjoy even without rice.
A nice pulutan to eat with your hands and to savor the meat off the bones. Sarap. 🙂
Art Event Space
After eating and drinking a bit, make sure to visit what’s happening on the 2nd floor event space.
It’s inspiring to see that the exhibit changes every two weeks, with a guide who can help you understand more about the works of art.
Bring a glass of wine as you try to understand the meaning of the crazy multimedia art installations.
Sometimes you have to peek into a hole to experience and make sense of death.
A black mirror kind of multimedia installation that’s best experienced up close and personal.
Every artwork is a celebration of the different kinds of love and an articulation of our being.
Go when the artist is setting up and chat with them about their creation, like Pauline Alvarez’s flower garden of choices.
Loved talking to Cabnov (Danica Novio), a Filipina in New Zealand, about her Maori art dealing with psychedelic heartbreak.
Sometimes only art can connect, explain and empathize with our emotions and what we are going through.
Final Thoughts
Overall, it’s an awesome place to unwind, be creative or just be with friends and family. It’s the perfect place to enjoy supper and late night sessions in Poblacion and be inspired by art by Manila’s young artists as curated by Leeroy.
Budget about ₱800/head for your choice of drink and some skewers or pica-picas. A bit expensive but you are paying for the ambiance and the unique concept.
