One of the skills I proudly learned in 2020 is how to globally invest in Global Stock Markets—US, China, London, Poland, Australia, Hong Kong and Philippines. I’ve always wanted to know how to invest in awesome businesses around the world and learn the secrets of high network individuals who do it.
The advent of retail investors has disrupted mutual fund, hedge fund and private fund investing, putting the power of global investing in your hands. Yes, you can do it even if you are in the Philippines with Interactive Brokers. (Note: eToro is not counted because it is a trading derivative, and you are not shareholders of the companies you are buying.)
I’m sharing here what I learned from stock investing globally for 1 year since the March 2020 crash.

How Awesome 10X was born. Every Gen Xer needs to know how to globally invest to build long term wealth. I was seeking a mentor in December 2019, and this was exactly the same time I met up with Nikki Yu who was my Maven Secret mentee before during her Dimsum Trader days. Nikki patiently taught me how to invest in the global stock markets one-on-one.
We were already expecting the market to crash in February and we conducted our first (and last) face-to-face training session in SMX Aura. We wanted to share knowledge on how to invest globally because nobody was teaching how to do this especially in Manila.
Upfront, we decided we will NOT manage other people’s money (not even that of our relatives), and we will not create a mutual fund like Ark Invest. We had a mutual conviction to teach people how to fish and invest their own money. And that is how Awesome 10X Global Investing was born.

Despite the many testimonials, most Filipinos stay away from the global markets because they think it is risky, others just want to stay in the local PSEI market while some don’t want to get out of their comfort zone to learn this.

There’s no perfect pasta sauce in Global Investing. There’s no one way to make a yummy spaghetti sauce.
There are different recipes in the same way there are different ways to construct your own global stock investing portfolio. Others invest in EVs and Solars. Others prefer Genomic Sequencing and Artificial Intelligence. There’s nothing wrong with that. People need to simply DIY their spaghetti.
Personally, I like investing in companies that help Planet Earth like biodegradable alternatives to plastic, electric vehicles, solar companies, fintech 3.0, genomic sequencing, artificial intelligence and gaming. I love coaching newbies to learn how to find their own conviction and decide which companies they want to own and support (and not just trade).

2020 was the start of the next tech boom and innovation that were fast tracked by the pandemic. Think investing for a decade and visualize what 2030 would look like, what companies you want to invest in to succeed and compound your profits over time. This was the hardest to learn especially during market corrections.
Time in the market is key NOT timing the market. I learned a lot from the bull run of 2020 and the bear correction of 2021. Nobody teaches this in schools, and the only way is learning practically from your experience in the market with guidance from a mentor like Nikki.
I was a pig for not taking profits with a 300% return already, and I got slaughtered though still up by 100% return. I learned how to listen to the market, to my mentor and to my own gut feel based on months of experience.

It is good that I didn’t learn how to trade before because people I know who have trading background had a tendency to bet on just a few companies one time big time. The problem with this is that this is a betting mindset and you can also lose big time.
Thanks to Nikki, I learned how to diversify with 20-50 companies early on to minimize market downturn impact.

Invest in regular tranches like planting root crops. Some plants will be harvested in Q1, Q2, Q3 or Q4 or in the next few years. Space out your buying in three or more tranches for proper price entries. 3%, 6%, 9% are the recommended percentage weights per stock for secular trend winners.
Some newbies in the market want to get 100% returns in 1 day which is unrealistic. You have to know the fundamental and technical analyses of the companies and the secular trends that they support. You have to nurture them over time, and reap benefits in 6-9 months time—just like having a baby.
Its better to be a FLAWED DIAMOND than a PERFECT BRICK.

This is my favorite quote from Nikki: you don’t need to be perfect and you need to accept your flaws. What’s important is that you are taking your shot, you’re learning from your mistakes and you’re celebrating your wins. It’s fun when you have a good supportive community like Awesome 10X.
