Girasol Tagaytay Escape

Girasol is one of the latest small hotels in the Tagaytay area that opened right before the lockdown and continues to be resilient in the face of the pandemic. Its name, inspired by the sunflower, is a reminder to always look towards the sun—focus on what’s positive and life-affirming.

We recently went to Tagaytay to bond with our young boys and experience Girasol. Here are some tips and highlights from our overnight escape.

The Great Room

The Great Room welcomes you with a high-ceiling dining area with nature integrated into its design and cozy setting arrangement.

This is an ideal place to host a small event or celebration. They also have an additional mezzanine area to accommodate more guests.

Most people eat in the al fresco outdoor area with a view of the trees.

For more privacy, you can book The Cellar for intimate dining with the family amidst the wines. You also get to enjoy the comforts of having your own restroom.

Chef Simon offers Tagaytay Filipino comfort favorites and gourmet food selections.

Tapas

Boneless Crispy Pata (₱930). A GiraSol special. Succulent pork knuckle marinated in garlic and peppercorn, deep-fried to a crisp and served with a soy-vinegar dip.

The Crispy Pata was highly recommended and did not disappoint. Loved the garlicky spicy flavor of the meat and the crispy skin. We enjoyed it as is, but you can also dip it in soy-vinegar sauce and eat it with rice.

Beef Kaldereta (₱620). Tender beef slow-cooked in grilled liver and tomato sauce with bell pepper, olives, green peas & garbanzos.

The Kare-Kare was also one of their better offerings. Loved the peanuty consistency of the sauce and the tender chunks of meat and tripe.

Quattro Formaggi (₱680). A GiraSol special. Sublime ben of four cheeses: mozzarella, brie, gorgonzola, and parmesan. Touch of pesto.

The boys were so into their thin crust pizza with four different kinds of cheeses.

Swiss Mushroom Burger (₱530). Quarter pound pan-grilled grass-fed Angus beef patty topped with melted Swiss cheese and sautéed mushrooms.

The burger was quite good with a quarter pound of Angus beef patty with melted cheese and mushrooms.

The boys were happy with the food, which is important in a Tagaytay escapade.

Sunflower Suite

We stayed in their signature suite that is just perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids.

The Sunflower Suite
The Sunflower Suite is perched up high with majestic views overlooking greenery and Taal lake.

The modern bathroom and shower is a must-see, with a
view for days.
WEEKENDS & HOLIDAYS P9,600
WEEKDAYS P8,500

It has a king-sized bed and two lounge chairs. We requested for extra bed for the little ones.

The modern bathroom and shower was clean with eco-friendly amenities.

As you shower, you have this view of trees, clouds and the water tank.

Loved hanging out with the boys as they watched a movie with pizza and played with their friends online.

This is the morning sunrise view from the balcony of the Sunflower Suite.

Longganisa (₱435). Gourmet Longganisa from Imus, Cavite. Locally-farmed pork infused with native spices.

The longganisa was tasty with the right fatty bits. Sarap!

Pancakes with Mixed Berries (₱335). Fluffy three-layer pancakes drizzled with maple syrup and topped with whipped cream and mixed berries compote.

This is the kind of fluffy pancakes you love to wake up to!

Final Thoughts

Overall, we felt safe throughout our stay and, at the same time, we loved their focus on offering good breakfast and Filipino food with a hotel-like service quality. The Sunflower Suite was a spacious and great place to stay with the young boys. Plus, it had good internet connection for their online schooling.

It does not have a pool or a bathtub, which the kids usually look forward to in a staycation. The gourmet menu selection can be improved and they should have a killer dessert or cake.

This is a great place for a quiet escape and good food with the family.

Also, it is a great venue for celebrations. You can book the entire hotel for your family and barkada gathering and have the whole place to yourselves to enjoy.

Thank you to the Girasol service team for taking care of the boys!

P.S. Since the Sunflower Suite is located on the 3rd floor on the front of the hotel, you can hear the noise of the traffic during rush hour.
