Mrs. Saldo’s is the hottest place to eat near Tagaytay, reminiscent of the time when Antonio’s opened as a passion project. There’s a lot of buzz about this garden restaurant and every foodie wants to eat here despite the 2-month advanced reservation.

Mrs. Saldo’s is a passion project of Chef Rhea Rizzo who worked in Gaggan before opening this garden restaurant last October 2021 (while the pandemic was still raging).

About Mrs Saldo’s

As you enter Saldo’s Farm, you’ll see big plants hugging the walkways, and it feels like a maze going through the garden with one path leading to the bakery and another to the main dining area.

The main dining area is quite homey. You immediately feel at home at the 16-seater table embraced by artworks and a lighting highlight that sets the mood for a long lazy lunch.

Chef Rhea’s specialty is Asian cuisine so if you are getting the 6-course menu, best to go for her Asian specialties. The serving sizes are quite big actually so you can share with someone and the other person can order a la carte.

Mrs. Saldo’s Menu:
Southern 6-Course Menu vs. Asian 6-Course Menu (₱2,900+vat / Person)

Ala Carte: Appetizers, Entrees | Entrees | Drinks | Desserts

(Tip: Best to actually go for the a la carte dishes which we all loved. Getting the Asian Menu though completes the Mrs. Saldo’s experience.)

Check out the couple’s curated wine collection which is predominantly from Napa Valley and will soon include more European wines.

Mrs. Saldo’s Cellar Selection:
White Wines | Rose, Champagne, Sparkling and Dessert Wines
Pinor Noir | Cabernet Sauvignon | Tempranillo, Merlot |
Bordeaux Blends, Zinfandel | Other Red Varietals |
Additional Red Varietals, Large Format

Aside from the main dining room, there is a 6-seater garden table where you are literally engulfed by plants. This is the signature shot at Mrs. Saldo’s.

When you dine here, there are people passing through, either going to the restroom or going to the al fresco area. Mrs. Saldo’s usually can entertain 3 to 5 big and small groups.

There is an adjacent room that can accommodate a group of 10 or two groups of 4 or 6. This is a more private room with no pass through traffic, ideal for intimate meetings.

With the cool Tagaytay weather, this al fresco place with the signature mural is a perfect place to hang out.

Asian Menu

Amuse Bouche

The Asian menu starts with bread service and a sour fish stew to get your appetite going.

(Note: Chef Rhea is known for her sourdough during the pandemic.)

Ban Xeoh, Nuoc Cham

The Vietnamese pancake, served as a half portion, was okay.

(Note: Sometimes when a few people order the same set menu, the course is served for two people like this Ban Xeoh.)

Indonesian Chicken Satay, Bumbu Bali, Peanut Sauce

Deliciously grilled satay with peanut sauce. Good to share.

Thai Fish Curry
Air Flown Hamachi, Cilantro, Fried Shallots

This is my personal favorite. The curry is creamy and served with a good choice of hamachi. Best to eat with rice. 🙂

Peranakan Lamb Curry
Blue Pea – Coconut Kaffir Rice, Cucumber Cilantro, Salad, Fried Shallots, Pineapples

This lamb curry, good for 2 people, comes with blue-colored coconut rice and is best eaten with a bit of nuts, shallots, cucumber and onions.

Honey Buns, Coconut Ice Cream
Kaffir, Caramel, Peanuts

The dessert is an open-faced half bun topped with coconut ice cream. Yum!

Ala Carte Menu

Crab Dip with Sourdough (₱790)

You must order this crab dip with a creamy baked consistency, and you can spread it generously over your sourdough. You can actually taste the crab meat. Sarap nito.

(₱1,000 corkage/bottle but no corkage for 1 bottle if you buy one bottle of wine)

This Sauv Blanc was just the perfect white to provide nice acidity and enough buzz to move forward and toast our worries away.

Eggs Benedict (₱650)
Tuny’s Farm Smoked Bacon, Hollandaise, Sourdough English Muffins

A great choice for brunch with Chef Rhea’s signature sourdough English muffins, smoked bacon, sunny side eggs smothered with hollandaise sauce.

Hawaiian Macademia Nut Pancakes (₱550)

Yes, the kiddos also enjoyed their pancakes made special by the macadamia nut sauce.

Pan-Fried Salmon Saffron Risotto (₱1,290)
Asparagus, Bearnaise Sauce, Lumpfish Caviar

The salmon was perfectly cooked and served on a bed of buttery saffron risotto.

Carne Asada Flank Steak (₱2,450)
Avocado Cream, Feta Cheese, Tomatoes, Arugula, Grilled Corn (Good for 2)

We loved our medium cooked Mexican Carne Asada—served like a messy bunch of steak with avocado cream, tomatoes and grated feta cheese.

Orange Almond Cake (₱395)
with White Chocolate Ganache

This orange almond cake with a fruity nutty flavor and white chocolate sweetness paired well with the coffee.

Final Thoughts

We loved Mrs. Saldo’s because of the homey garden restaurant vibe, the a la carte dishes and creative Asian specialties. We also loved Chef Rhea’s down-to-earth personality. You can actually see her working hard in the kitchen, preparing the food with her team.

It was worth it, especially when dining in exclusivity and safety in the company of family and friends. The experience was welcoming, family friendly, and conducive to conversations with great food.

Specifically, we loved the following dishes:
Crab Dip with Sourdough (₱790)
Pan-Fried Salmon Saffron Risotto (₱1,290)
Carne Asada Flank Steak (₱2,450)
Thai Fish Curry (included in Asian Menu ₱2,900+vat)
Peranakan Lamb Curry (included in Asian Menu ₱2,900+vat)

Although some of the dishes were just okay and may make you feel like you are just paying for the privacy vs. the consistent quality of the food. There were some comments that they went home still hungry after the meal.

I would recommend to order the A La Carte Menu and add the Asian Set Menu to complete the Mrs. Saldo experience. Budget about ₱3,000/head.

Congratulations to Chef Rhea Rizzo on her passion project—Mrs. Saldo’s!

Make sure to invite your family and friends and book the main dining table in advance. Pre-order your set menu and a la carte dishes also in advance. As for the wine, it would be better to order from them to manage the corkage fees. Expect a long lazy brunch. Enjoy!

  1. OMG! I just arrived from Mrs. Saldo’s with my family and I can just tell you that your review is SPOT ON WITH MY OWN THOUGHTS ABOUT THEIR WONDERFUL AMBIANCE AND THEIR FOOD! 😍👍

I ordered their crab dip with sourdough, eggs benedict tapa steak (medium rare served), mimosa drink and their choco cookie ala mode. ALL WERE PERFECT! I’m not joking.
