QIWELLNESS LIVING (2023): Awesome Bathhouse + Teahouse Revisited in Tagaytay!

Qiwellness Living has been our secret favorite reflexology and Chinese teahouse concept in Tagaytay since 2015. Aidan still remembers his first visit, when he was captivated by the unique Chinese architecture and ambiance created by the Budji + Layug team. We’re thrilled to finally bring our boys to experience the hot and cold bath, a deep pressure massage, and the signature Yin Yang seasonal set menu.

THE BATHHOUSE (SPA)

Our family bonding session in the hot and cold bath was priceless. We discussed how the alternating temperatures can stimulate metabolism and improve mood. We cherished these moments together, knowing that soon our boys would prefer bringing their girlfriends instead.

The hot pool was more bearable like a Laguna hot spring, and it’s especially enjoyable during a foggy December day.

The cold bath was refreshing, especially if you dipped your head under immediately. It was colder than I remembered, but they must regulate the temperature to be more tolerable (even for the kiddos).

The family’s indulgence was a truly exceptional massage, and it was the teenagers’ favorite activity. It was their first or second time to get a full-body massage, and they enjoyed every minute of the 90-minute deep-tissue massage from their expert therapist.

To enjoy and relax fully at the bathhouse, allot ample time and arrive early for your scheduled sessions, as traffic in Tagaytay can be unpredictable.

THE TEAHOUSE (DINING)

Chinese tea houses have long been a haven for tranquility and meditation, where guests can sip tea and admire the natural scenery of lakes, mountains, and forests. At the teahouse at Qiwellness Living, you can experience the same serenity against a stunning backdrop of lake, mountains, and forest.

The teahouse’s menu is inspired by the traditional Chinese medicine principles of yin and yang, and utilizes both classical and modern culinary techniques to create dishes with both Western and Eastern ingredients. The multi-course menus are sure to delight adventurous guests who are eager to explore new gastronomic delights in a sensory dining experience.

The Teahouse Menu: Tea + Dining | Cocktails | Wines

The Yin Yang set menu has improved over the years, and Chef Mike Santiago ensures that he creates a menu that is delicious, interactive, and on-theme for the season.

The teenagers enjoy the set menus because they have their own plates without boxing out each other.

DUCK HERBAL SOUP
duck bone broth + ginseng + chuanxiong

The duck bone soup, served hot and flavored with botanicals, was soothing on a cold Tagaytay season.

DUCK SALAD ‘char siew’
barbecued duck breast + autumn vegetables + sesame-soy dressing

Each flavorful slice of duck breast, barbecued to perfection, paired well with the soy dressing of the salad. The portions were satisfying and easily enjoyed with chopsticks.

The main course was served tableside, with a demo of how to debone and shred duck leg served with the pancakes.

DUCK LEG CONFIT ‘a la Pékin’
duck fat preserved leg + green onion pancakes + Peking sauce

Like Peking duck, this first course features duck leg meat and skin smothered in hoisin sauce and wrapped in a scallion and egg pancake.

TEXTURES OF PUMPKIN
pumpkin-spiced lo mai chi + toffee nut crumble + pumpkin crisp + spiced pumpkin ice cream

Dessert was unique for the Halloween and Christmas mood, with a pumpkin dessert theme.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, I am still impressed with how the architecture ages beautifully into an old heritage tea house concept, yet is maintained well with all the showers and bath amenities. People come here for the exceptional massage and can’t wait to return for a foot and back reflexology session. The Yin Yang menu has improved over time, from being tentative to an elegant and seasonal menu that is on theme with the tea house concept.

It is busier now, with many couples and families seeking Qiwellness serenity, even if it is only briefly, on a busy Tagaytay weekend. I can see other families going here for a nice family portrait calmly with the picturesque Taal Volcano and to enjoy the teahouse’s dim sum selection. There are definitely a lot of people going on couple dates, and you can feel the romance in the air. The service team is accommodating, but they may become harassed if you arrive late or they have to readjust their schedule.
