JOEL’S PLACE: Redefining the Grocerant Experience in Manila!?

Joel’s Place seamlessly integrates the grocery and restaurant experience, designed with the female shopper’s perspective in mind. It feels like a European-Filipino marketplace where you can visit multiple times a day for your food cravings and gourmet kitchen replenishments. Inspired by Joel’s personality and the Parisian lifestyle, it offers a more integrated restaurant and grocery experience than One World Deli.

Here’s a tour of our favorite stations and food options at Joel’s Place:

OUR FAVORITES

The Deli offers a variety of options to suit every taste and preference. Choose from sandwiches, pasta, rice dishes, soups, salads, and daily meat carvings to create your perfect meal.

Try their Bibimbap Saikoro Steak, Creamed Spinach, Quinoa Salad, Beef Bourguignon, and Carving of the Day. I love how they cater to all healthy cravings, diet considerations, and offer a thoughtfully curated turo-turo display.

The food can inspire you to shop from their curated selection of olive oils and gourmet items, reminiscent of those found in the El Corte Ingles gourmet section.

The Baker is your new go-to spot for freshly baked bread and handcrafted desserts, including specialty loaves, croissants, mini cakes, and tarts.

What’s unique is that they serve bite-sized cakes and freshly baked pastries, allowing you to try a little bit of each. Don’t miss their Brazilian Cheese Puff, Champorado Crisps, Croissant-Empanada creations, and flourless Hazelnut Cake.

The Fishmonger offers a fresh selection of sustainably sourced seafood with an emphasis on traceability. Enjoy a variety of local and imported freshwater and seawater fish, mollusks, shellfish, crustaceans, roe, and smoked fish.

Hamachi Jaw is a favorite that you can grill at home or have cooked for you to enjoy in-store.

Try their proudly locally sourced oysters from the pristine waters of Tayabas, free from any red tide ever.

The Butcher is home to an exquisite selection of fine meats and premium cuts, including Angus beef, Wagyu, lamb, organically-raised free-range chickens, turkeys, and ostrich meat. They also offer pork products made from naturally raised pigs, sourced from top local and international producers.

You can have the F1 Wagyu and Angus crossbreed from Australia cooked to medium perfection.

The Sommelier offers a top-tier selection of local and imported alcohol. Enjoy Filipino-made liquors with unique flavors and textures, along with imported wines from carefully chosen winegrowers, perfect for any occasion.

I love the Type A specialty cold brew concoctions for their low acidity and strong coffee taste.

Cucumber Lemonade is our favorite from the Juicer, followed closely by the fresh orange juice.

The Gelateria feat. creamy gelato crafted by award-winning pâtissier Michael “Miko” Aspiras.

The gelato is a bit sweet, dense with flavorful flavors.. Our fav is the hazelnut nocciola flavor.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I must admit, it’s fun to shop and eat here. It’s a safe space for enjoying meals alone or for a fun gourmet discovery with the family. The deli and bakery selections are perfectly portioned, focusing on Filipino and European cuisine. You won’t find Chinese, dim sum, or other Asian selections here.

Unlike One World Deli, which feels like a showroom for the brands they own and promote, Joel’s Place has a high-end grocery experience rooted in years of serving Shopwise shoppers. It’s more female-centric and consumer-focused compared to OWD’s male-dominated, business-to-business feel. We love both grocerant players, and it’s great to see more delis embracing the gourmet shopping and dining experience.

Don’t be intimidated to check out how Joel’s Place is redefining the grocerant experience in Manila.
