Michelin Guide Hotels recommend 6 Hotels in the Philippines – 3 in Manila (Hotel Okura Manila, Admiral Hotel Manila-MGallery, The Peninsula Manila), 1 in Cebu (Crimson Resort & Spa Mactan), 1 in Palawan (Amanpulo), and 1 in Siargao (Nay Palad Hideaway Siargao).
And so it begins… The Michelin Guide phenomenon has officially arrived in Manila, sparking a flurry of questions: What does it take for a hotel to earn a coveted spot on this list? Can advertising influence the selection? Does a hotel’s recommendation automatically extend to its restaurants? And, is this a definitive endorsement of the hotel’s service standards?
A common denominator among these hotels is a unique design, delicious restaurant outlets, and a distinctively Filipino quality of service. I’ve been to 4 out of the 6 on the list – I have yet to visit Amanpulo with my family, and Nay Palad Hideaway’s recommendation in Siargao came out of nowhere. Given their criteria, I would expect them to recommend Manami Resort in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, Dusit Thani Lubi Plantation Resort in Davao de Oro, and one of the beautiful hideaway resorts in Anda, Bohol.

AMANPULO

“As is the Aman custom, this resort strives to blend in with its natural and cultural surroundings as much as possible. Here the 42 casitas and 18 villas are built in the style of the native Philippine bathay kubo dwellings, with thatched roofs and pebble-washed walls alongside luxe touches like king beds with rattan headboards and ornate indigenous-style furnishings. The bathroom, nearly as large as the bedroom, features dual vanities, a separate shower, and a freestanding tub. Satellite television is standard.“

HOTEL OKURA MANILA

“At Hotel Okura Manila, culinary delights await at every turn. The signature Japanese fine-dining restaurant, Yamazato, offers meticulously prepared dishes using the freshest ingredients, while Yawaragi presents a fusion of international, Japanese, and Filipino flavors. The Sora Rooftop Bar, a highlight of the hotel, offers guests a chance to unwind with a drink while enjoying stunning panoramic views of the city skyline.“

This is one of our favorite hotels in Manila, thanks to its stunning Yawaragi centerpiece with a bonsai installation, excellent Japanese food, especially during breakfast, an in-room personal onsen bath, and a serene rooftop pool and bar. It gets our vote for the best staycation experience in Manila and is now home to the Sapporo Octo-Beerfest every September.
ADMIRAL HOTEL MANILA – MGALLERY

“In Manila the boutique-hotel wave is yet to crest; the finest hotels in town have long been classic-style grand hotels like the Admiral, a tribute to the city’s Golden Age and its Filipino-Spanish design heritage. It’s a member of Accor’s MGallery collection, which means it’s got a bit of local personality to go with its Art Deco influence, as well as up-to-date in-room comforts like Bose sound systems and Nespresso coffee machines. The Admiral Club restaurant overlooks Manila Bay from the hotel’s rooftop while Ruby Wong’s Godown is the glamorous subterranean bar and lounge.“

We love hosting our Manila Food & Wine events here because of the Admiral Gallery, an all-day dining restaurant that offers the perfect place to unwind with a front-row view of the Manila sunset. The stunning lobby, featuring an art installation masterpiece and a blend of Filipino-French ambiance, adds to the venue’s charm. The secret bar and Chinese noodle bar are also popular hangout spots in Manila.
THE PENINSULA MANILA

“The location, with twin towers straddling the intersection of Ayala and Makati avenues, is central, right where a high-flying luxury hotel ought to be. And while the re-opened restaurants and lobby bar make the hotel another much-needed meeting point for the city’s business and civic elite, it’s the redesigned accommodations that should have the Peninsula’s competitors looking in the rear-view window.“

The Peninsula Manila never loses its elegant touch and ages beautifully over time, making its iconic lobby the go-to place for important meetings, late-night hangouts, or early breakfast gatherings with balikbayans and tourist friends.
CRIMSON RESORT & SPA MACTAN

“Quiet because it would be impossible to argue that Crimson’s design, however handsome, is one for the history books. It’s a conservative look, one that’s clearly meant to appeal to the broadest possible audience, and to place the visual focus squarely on the extraordinary environment that is Mactan Island itself. But it’s clear that they’ve learned the lessons of the last few decades of high-end boutique-influenced Pacific Rim villa resorts.“

Crimson Resort & Spa Mactan is one of our favorite resorts in Mactan, Cebu, thanks to the delicious food at Enye by Chef Chele, the Azure alfresco beach bar and restaurant, and their new Japanese restaurant, AKA. It’s a relaxing place to stay, complete with a spa to rejuvenate you.

NAY PALAD HIDEAWAY SIARGAO

“You’ll spot the resort from afar, thanks to a wooden pagoda that rises up out of a tiny islet just offshore. Step into the reception pavilion, airy and geometric, built with local materials carved indigenous wood to woven coconut leaves. Pop by the cool circular bar for rum cocktails, or recover from the trip in a dreamy sunken lounge ensconced in white drapery and illuminated by the glow of bamboo lamps. Splash into the infinity pool, or climb into a ‘NESTREST’ — a futuristic hybrid of a hammock and a chaise longue that hangs, pod-like, from coconut trees — and enjoy the view of the sea. Or just retreat to your private villa and face-plant onto the king-sized bed.”

P.S. Can’t wait to check out Nay Palad Hideaway in Siargao! Do you know who owns this?

Thanks for posting this one. You gave me an idea how much is the hotel check-in per night in Philippines. If you divide the hotel rate per night in Philippines by 55 ($1 = PHP 55), then the rate is the same thing as here in USA.
