Sofitel Hotel Manila Staycation with Mom! (Itinerary)

❗️As featured in 20 Best Staycations in Manila of the Decade (2020)!

Why not treat your special mom to a sweet escape in our very own city!

It’s not a secret that I’ve been traveling a lot lately, and most of the time, I’d leave my suite and be out sightseeing. The best part about staycations is that you get to take advantage of all the hotel amenities. Since you’re in your city, the focus is all about that much-needed R & R.

When you think about Sofitel Manila, the first thing that probably comes to mind is its famous Spiral Restaurant buffet—one of Manila’s best buffet spreads! But what you’re missing is spending a relaxing staycation in a tropical oasis with the iconic lagoon-shaped swimming pool, majestic Manila Bay sunset, luxurious pampering and a full line-up of gastronomic feasts.

I was thrilled to indulge in some relaxation with the girls! What better way to unwind than a quick vacation minus the hustle of traveling. Here’s a sample itinerary of our weekend at Sofitel Manila…

DAY 1

2:00 PM CHECK-IN

They recently revamped their rooms, and I fell in love with the chic and minimalist design. Our warm and cozy suite had a lovely balcony with a stunning view of the pools and Manila Bay.

Look at that! It felt like I was in Boracay or Cebu…

But my favorite part had to be the ultra-soft bedding and plush pillows; they’re perfect for catching up on sleep!

You’ll be made to feel special with the welcome treats that include banana chips, coconut flakes and bottled water.

Sofitel offers different rooms depending on your needs and your budgetSunday-Thurs check in: starts at 7,300+++ including Spiral breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children
Friday-Saturday check in: starts at 7,700+++ including Spiral breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children.

The bathroom was spacious, with toiletries from Lanvin Paris.

4:00 PM MASSAGE AT LE SPA

After settling in, it was time to reward mom and myself with only the best indulgence and give her that much-needed beauty retreat that she deserved.

Sofitel’s Le Spa gives you access to the hot tub, steam room and sauna. So make sure to be there 30-minutes earlier than your booked session to enjoy this facility.

My mom availed of the Hilot (P3,000/hour). While I had the Aruga session (P3,000) because I had lots of aches and pains in my body from working out.

Complimentary ginger tea and water. We loved the ginger tea.

After the Spa, take a short walk by the bay and bask in the afterglow of your Le Spa session under Manila Bay’s world-renowned sunset before heading to dinner at Spiral.

7:00 PM DINNER AT THE SPIRAL BUFFET

The most awaited event of my day was the dinner at one of Manila’s grandest buffets at Sofitel’s Spiral. It was the ultimate feast! With its delectable spread and high-quality service, there was no denying as to why it’s dubbed as the “epitome of superior dining.”

Spiral takes pride in its 21 ateliers and most extensive and interactive gourmet dining buffet offerings.

The best time to go to SPIRAL is during their signature Spiral Sunday Brunch, when they have more gourmet food offerings with wine tasting. But we chose the Sunday dinner option instead.

The Cheese Room was our favorite still, a heaven for cheese lovers because of the many available kinds of cheese and cultured meat.

They had cheeses of all kinds, from Brie and Comte to Queso Rustico and Blue Cheese.

At the French section, they served eat-all-you-can Foie Gras.

Oysters, shrimp, crabs and other seafood were the highlights of L’Ecailler.

You can always pick from the freshest catch and have the chefs cook it to your liking.

Lechon! Best to head for this first at the Filipino section and grab that crispy golden lechon skin! Yum!

Their Chinese dim sum was also really good. We are Hakao monsters, so we ordered as much as we wanted. They also had Peking duck with plum sauce! You can also try their yummy laksa at the noodle station!

At the Japanese section, find the freshest sashimi, sushi and nigiri prepared delicately by the chefs behind the counter. They also have a tepanyaki and tempura station which you can checkout.

The meat section included the leg of lamb, pork ribs, salmon head and beef short ribs.

For dessert, I loved the fruits section that was filled with seasonal favorites, including mangosteen and rambutan fruit.

Cakes, gelato, sorbet, chocolate to satisfy any sweet tooth.

However, if you want to try the Filipino desserts, I strongly suggest the freshly-cooked Puto Bumbong and Bibingka reminiscent of our Christmases here in the Philippines. Yummy!

Breakfast (Monday to Friday): P2000
Breakfast (Saturday to Sunday): P2250
Lunch (Monday to Saturday): P2750
Brunch (Sunday without Champagne): P3500
Brunch (Sunday with Champagne): P4215
Dinner (Monday, Tuesday, Friday): P3200
Dinner (Wednesday – Hooked): P3500
Dinner (Thursday – Butcher’s Choice): P3500

9:00 PM BACK TO ROOM

Watch TV and sleep…

DAY 2

8:00 AM BREAKFAST AT SPIRAL

If you thought the dinner buffet was amazing, wait till you experience Manila’s best breakfast buffet spread! It was the most overwhelming spread I’ve seen!

Tip: The cheese room is open throughout the day! Even on the breakfast buffet! But, of course with only 10 kinds of cheese available unlike during lunch and dinner time during which they offer 18 kinds.

If you wish to highlight cheese for breakfast, use the complimentary honey and jam, as cheese and honey will always be a great combination.

Start with the pomelo salad at the Thai section…

Freshly squeezed orange and other juices…

Fresh fruits…

Egg station where they cook your eggs to your liking.

The Pinoy section had tapa, tocino, and tuyo (dried fish). For something sweet—pudding, champorado and gintaang halo-halo.

The Chinese section had Hainanese chicken, fish in tausi, beef & broccoli, siopao and vegetable dumplings.

The usual bacon, sausages and ham…

End breakfast with something sweet. They had muffins, yogurt and even ice cream for breakfast!

12:00 PM CHECKOUT

Final Thoughts

Since we visited on a Sunday, the hotel was happy to offer us a late 4:00 pm checkout on a Monday.

If you need some R & R or are looking for last-minute gifts for your Mom, you should definitely book a suite at Sofitel Manila!

P.S. Schedule your staycation during the Crayfish Party on Sept 14.

Transport back in time and feast like a Viking at the biggest Crayfish Party in Asia!

The Kräftskiva (Crayfish Party) is a traditional Swedish eating and drinking celebration, symbolizing the end of summer for Nordic countries, usually in August. The celebration is made complete with the serving of the sought-after delicacy, the Swedish crayfish. But what is crayfish? Crayfish, also known as freshwater lobster, is found in the Northern Hemisphere and is not native to Philippine waters, which explains why we’re not that familiar with it. Due to a plague that almost wiped out the crayfish population, a law has been made to prohibit the fishing of crayfish year-round except during the crayfish season that starts in August. This is the reason why the crayfish is rare and expensive.

Feast on bountiful servings of imported crayfish and Nordic spreads, drink free-flowing beer, dress in Viking costume and dance to the festive music with NordCham Philippines in partnership with Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila on September 14, 2019 at the Sofitel Harbor Garden Tent. Here’s what to expect from this year’s event…
