LE BAR: Romantic French Dinner with Wine Pairing @SofitelManila

SOFITEL-117.jpg

LE BAR is the lobby bar of Sofitel Hotel, which is a bistro, music lounge, and Galette – Patisserie and Chocolaterie in one. It’s the best place to eat in Sofitel as an alternative to Spiral, where you can enjoy food and pair it with an extensive list of French and European wines.

Vodkatini (P320 +10% service charge). Vodka Dry Vermouth.

You can start with an aperitif to get your appetite going.

At night, a lounge singer serenades the LE BAR crowd.

A complimentary bread basket is served…

SOFITEL-62.jpg
…with different oil dipping variations. I particularly like the spicy ones. 🙂

SOFITEL-104.jpg
MOJITO (P320 +10% service charge). White Rum, Lime, Soda, Brown Sugar and Fresh Mint.

My wife loves her refreshing mojito.

SOFITEL-122.jpg
Mango Fruit Shake (P300 +10% service charge).

The boys order Mango juice all the time. 🙂

SOFITEL-111.jpg
AVOCADO & CRAB IN A WRAP (P429 +10% service charge). Mexican style served with fresh mixed green vegetable salad.

This was served burrito style using a tortilla wrap. It was OK. Good to share as an appetizer.

SOFITEL-108.jpg
It’s always good to start with a fruity-citrusy refreshing white wine.

SOFITEL-107.jpg
Chapoutier, Belleruche Blanc, Rhone Valley, France (P2,750/bottle, P690/glass +10% service charge). The wine is pale yellow in color and clear. Green apple on the nose, hawthorn and white blossoms. Citrus aromas and exoctic fruits. The taste is fresh and well balanced. Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc.

SOFITEL-116.jpg
The service is good and there’s a dining section where you can eat with the family.

SOFITEL-115.jpg
ALL ABOUT MUSHROOM IN A “VELOUTE” (P550 +10% service charge)Champignon de Paris, porcini and truffle with parmesan foam.

The soup was really good — you can taste the freshness of the mushroom with the truffle oil. Served on a hot plate.

SOFITEL-113.jpg
Warm Pecan Crusted Brie Cheese (P620 +10% service charge). Warm truffled brie, green apple and arugula salad.

This is my favorite cheese appetizer — a block of brie is cooked with a crusted outer layer…

SOFITEL-118.jpg
…with oozing hot brie cheese inside, which is best paired with the arugula and green apple slices.

SOFITEL-124.jpg
For the main course, we got a Sauvignon Blanc from the Bordeaux region, which is always a safe choice.

SOFITEL-123.jpg
Dourthe No.1, Bordeaux, France (P1,850/bottle, P490/glass +10% service charge). This refreshingly crisp wine offers citrus and tropical fruit flavors with very aromatic notes of green chilies, grass herbs, asparagus, and goose berries commonly contributing to the Sauvignon Blanc

SOFITEL-126.jpg
Fusilli Lemon Pesto (P650 +10% service charge)

Sometimes we just like our pasta simple with oil, basil, and tomatoes.

SOFITEL-128.jpg
We decided to go for a light dinner and ordered the highly recommended Sea Bass served on a bed of mashed polenta and spinach.

SOFITEL-129.jpg
Seared Chilean Sea Bass (P1,100 +10% service charge). Creamy polenta, sauteed spinach, bean sprout and lemon confit salsa.

They cooked the Sea Bass well…smooth, juicy, and not overcooked, unlike how most restos would do it. It also had just the right sear on the outside.

SOFITEL-136.jpg
For dessert, nothing beats a good glass of sweet Muscat wine.

SOFITEL-135.jpg
LA CROIX DU PIN, MUSCAT (P1,500/bottle, P400/glass +10% service charge). Colour pale gold. Very aromatic with hints of apricot, honey, and flower. Fresh, floral, fruity, and sweet.

 SOFITEL-132.jpg
GALETTE PASTRY SELECTION. A selection of French miniature pastries. Choice of three.

We decided to skip dessert because there’s nothing interestingly unique about the choices.
 SOFITEL-130.jpg
LE BAR is worth checking out if you want to chill out with good food, well-selected wines, and soothing music, especially when you’re staying the night at Sofitel. It’s a good alternative to Spiral if you’re looking for a more intimate dinner.

Budget is P2,000/head with wine pairing.
