CRISP ON 28th is a neighborhood BGC cafe by Erwan Heussaff. The sister restaurant of Hatch 22, it offers breakfast and healthy all-day dining food. It’s making a buzz for its healthy quinoa salads and beautiful plates.

Here’s our Crisp on 28th experience with the Zynappse team, who is creating my OAP App…

Crisp on 28th is the anchor cafe and restaurant located at the Alveo Corporate center along the quiet 28th street.

CRISP ON 28th Menu: Early Start, Open Toast | Salads, Sandwiches, Dinner Menu | Cakes, Cookies & Bars, Donut Bites | Wines, Beers, Sodas, Water

The first page of the menu highlights the Specials for the Week in a messy, confusing write-up.

We decided to try the main dishes for lunch, which got mixed reviews.

CRISP 28th-10.jpg
✮ Roasted Sambal Chicken Thighs (P385 +10% service charge). Brown Dirty Rice / Pickled Cucumbers / Fried Okra / Sambal Sauce.

I like this Asian-inspired roasted chicken in a spicy sambal sauce, with slices of sweet pickled cucumber and okra for a healthy twist.

CRISP 28th-11.jpg
Grilled Spanish Cod (P590 +10% service charge). Green Beans / Shrimp Bisque / Roasted Vegetable / Zucchini Spaghetti.

I don’t think the shrimp bisque sauce worked in this combination. Best to ask for the sauce on the side so that you can enjoy the tender cod with the roasted vegetables.

CRISP 28th-12.jpg
Slow Cooked Pork Loin Herbed Lemon (P470 +10% service charge). Marble Potatoes / Braised Red Wine Cabbage / Applesauce with Thyme.

The braised red wine sauce was too overpowering and the pork loin was too saucy. This is the only dish that we didn’t finish.

CRISP 28th-13.jpg
✮ Chipotle Chicken Quinoa Salad (P395 -full, P215 -half +10% service charge). Organic Quinoa / Grilled Herbed Chicken / Tomatoes / White Cheese / Sliced Onions / Red beets / Lemon Oil / Black Olives.

I love the quinoa salads at Crisp! This one is already a complete and healthy meal, with lots of vegetables, grilled chicken, and smoke-dried jalapeño chili.

CRISP 28th-14.jpg
✮ Shrimp Beignets (P485 +10% service charge). Fried Doughnuts / Shrimp Creole / Ettouffe Sauce / Buckwheat Grits.

If you like Cajun spices, try out this unique shrimp ettouffe over healthy, cereal-like buckwheat grits (finely grounded hulled kernels).

CRISP 28th-9.jpg
Our initial order of the medium hanger steak was overcooked and tasted like rubber. The staff doesn’t seem to know how to cook steak.

CRISP 28th-18.jpg
Chargrilled Hanger Steak (P645 +10% service charge). Mixed Corn Relish / Cheese Croquettes / Mixed Greens / Chipotle Sauce.

The quality of meat was just OK and tasted cheap. Stick with the quinoa salad and the grilled chicken.

CRISP 28th-19.jpg
There’s a good array of desserts to pair with their coffee or to end the meal on a sweet note.

CRISP 28th-25.jpg
Crisp Cake (P160 – slice, P1,600 – whole +10% service charge). Our signature cake–perfect combination of tart and sweetness. Layers of Calamansi Sponge Cake, Calamansi Curd, and Almond Meringue.

The calamansi flavor was good but the actual sponge cake was dry, which means it was either stored for a long time, or the baker didn’t know how to make it moist.

CRISP 28th-26.jpg
Tres Leches Rum Cake (P150 +10% service charge). Sponge cake with a small dose of rum, soaked in a 3-milk sauce overnight. Tres Leches is served with a warm shot of hot chocolate milk.

I loved the 3-milk sauce combination with hot chocolate milk, but the sponge cake was dry. 🙁

Best to just skip the dessert and save on the calories.

CRISP 28th-27.jpg
I like their strong black coffee, which pairs nicely with the flavors of the tres leches rum cake.

Meet the Zynappse OAP team. They’re in the final preparations for the launch of the OAP App for Android and the new iOS, so watch out for it! 🙂

CRISP 28th-1.jpg

Overall, I love the quinoa salads, coffee, and beautiful plates. Crisp on 28th is more like the little sister of Wholesome Table. I do hope they offer more healthy dishes with more unique flavors.

I would recommend the Chipotle Chicken Quinoa SaladRoasted Sambal Chicken Thighs, and Shrimp Beignets. The serving sizes of the main dishes are big and good to share.

Budget about P500/head. Skip the dessert.

Congrats to Erwan Heussaff for another winning neighborhood cafe concept in BGC! 🙂

Will be back to try their breakfast offerings. Any recommendations?

  1. Hi Anton,
Those chicken dishes look delightful. I’d scarf down each one and a dessert – or all desserts ; – to boot. So many great looking eats here which I know taste great.
One downside of being here in Fiji is that we’re off the radar. A few tasty places and dishes but I miss food like this.
Well, we’ll be back in Ubud, Bali in late October so the eats will be better soon.
    Thanks Anton.
    Tweeting soon.
    Ryan
