BACONFESTMNL is a local celebration of the yummy goodness of Bacon and Filipinos’ love for it! PUREFOODS has put out the challenge to restaurants in Manila to create unique bacon dishes from this month of May until June.
Took my wife Rache on a Bacon Crawl date, and I’d like to share with you our favorite Bacon Creations from the event…
1). BACONFEST BURGER by Charlie’s Grind and Grill
Charlie’s Baconfest Bacon is made from Black Angus meat with spicy bacon and mozzarella integrated into the patty. Barbecue sauce is added to complete the unique Bacon Burger experience.

2). SKINNY PIGS ON A BLANKET by Wicked Dogs
Skinny Pigs on a Blanket (P250)
It was fun eating these two long and slim Viennese sausages wrapped in a blanket of spicy bacon, then topped with chili con carne, salsa fresca, and fresh cilantro leaves. But the French bread they used was a bit heavy and made the hotdog difficult to bite; I wished they had used a softer bun instead.

3). MAPLE BACON PANCAKE ICE CREAM by Sebastian’s
Maple Bacon Pancake (P110 for single scoop; P200 for double scoop; P330 for a pint)
We loved this unique Sebastian’s creation! It really does taste like pancake with candied bits of Maple Bacon. 🙂
Can’t wait for Ian Carandang’s other Bacon Ice Cream creations–The Elvis (Banana Ice Cream with Peanut Butter Ripple and Candied Bacon) coming May 22, and Cheddar Bacon (Cheddar Cheese Ice Cream with a Slice of Candied Bacon) on June 12.

4). BACON MARGARITA by Gram’s Diner
Bacon Margarita (P195)
We were skeptical of this weird bacon and margarita combination at first. But the bacon provided a complementing salty flavor to the alcohol. It was like drinking margarita while eating Bacon pulutan at the same time.

5). SUSHI BACON by Torch
Bacon with rice in one big bite, with Japanese soy sauce and wasabi flavors. Yum!

6). 2ND’S Bacon Mac & Cheese

Long and slim macaroni pasta with truffle cheese sauce, topped with honey roast bacon bits. It was good but a bit expensive for the serving size.
